I've always seen NSMBW as a sequel to the DS version that doesn't try to be a port. It adds so many new concepts and ideas that ultimately makes an enjoyable experience. Things like multiplayer modes really help replayability after the main adventure.
This was one of the first Wii games I had! I was 5 when I got this and had a blast playing through it with my brother, now I’m nearly 17 and playing through it again. Time really does fly 😢

I feel called out that I’ve had barely any attachment to this game as a kid since we didn’t buy it until a little while before our Wii broke, and I have way more nostalgia for NSMB2, that’s my personal favorite in the series
As somebody who grew up with the NES in the 80’s, I absolutely loved this game when it came out, and I still enjoy hooking up the WII to play it occasionally. We got a WII for our kids back when it was first released, and I played this more than the kids. I am not a fan of the 3D games. I never enjoyed the Galaxy games or even Super Mario 64. They just made me feel like I had Vertigo.
New Super Mario Bros Wii rightfully earns the title of a "modern classic". This game is the perfect example of taking inspiration from previous titles while adding to the complexity with plenty of fresh, new ideas. To this day, it is arguably the best-executed 2D Mario game in the series. To put things simply, it manages to check off all the boxes and fill in some new ones. Boxes you didn't think were necessary, but now cannot play Mario without. In many regards, it is the best 2D Mario game to date, and to be honest, I feel like many of its clever contributions to the series are largely overlooked. It is often lumped in with the other "New Soups", when it doesn't deserve to be. I'm not saying it is a flawless experience, because there are a few nitpicks, but I seriously cannot find a major flaw in this entire game. It is a rock-solid title through and through, one where the strengths HEAVILY outweigh the weaknesses. Justifying a 10/10 score is perfectly reasonable.

I played it a lot and did 100% but never played with someone before, i like to listen the final battle theme cause is so good! Ahhhh I know people think the New Super Mario games are either all the same, easy or overdone but when I was 7 years old in 2007 and I got a DS for my birthday and then eventually New Super Mario Bros for DS it was such an awesome introduction to the Mario series. Fast forward two years to being 9 in 2009 and getting this game and a Wii for Christmas was honestly the best thing you could have as a kid. Awesome games and great video
I loved this game so much, everytime my cousins were over we would play this and come up with a bunch of weird stuff like riding the ice blocks. This game provided some of the best memories I’ve had playing games
I feel like this was (so far) the pinnacle of the "New Super Mario Bros." series. I feel like the Wii U/Switch-port edition went back to the well re: ideas a few too many times, and made some irritating choices across the board. I felt like the look of every level was trying to outdo the great designs and layouts of the previous game--like it was trying to do too many things just OK but none of them great.
Just watching my nephews, they loved SMBWii and spent endless hours on multiplayer. And these were kids that had zero interest in anything “retro” and wouldn’t be caught dead playing the NES or SNES games.
Gusty garden galaxy is one, if not my personal, favorite, song from all the Mario games. So many childhood memories come from that game along with Super Mario Bros Wii
New Super Mario Bros Wii is one of the greatest video games of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and theme due to it's gameplay, graphics, and levels as it was so fun and innovative. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍💯😎👍
I played this with my friends recently (we’re all 18) and after all these years it was still genuinely fun as fuck. Dont think there will be another moment in the year of 2023 where i was laughing as hard or having as much fun as that night

The wii gimmick is used exclusively for spinning, a.k.a activating the helicopter powerup. I really don't think you can complain about it in this game.
