- Have you ever wondered how I went from being a Pattaya gogo bar manager to owning my own beer bar in Pattaya?
In this video I explain how I went through the different options that were available and also tell a few stories about running a beer bar in Walking street Pattaya.
The bar is four years old today.

You’re absolutely right - when I had my bar/restaurant in Wales, I forked quite a bit to update the toilets to make them clean and comfortable. It’s important ....

Stopped in your pub when I was living in Pattaya in 2018. Very nice place. Has a western and up to date look. I recall the beer prices were reasonable too. I will be back again when I get back to Pattaya again. Enjoying your vlogs, cheers!

I agree toilets are very important especially in pattaya. Me and my friend would pick bars based almost entirely on how decenbt toilets were cause we had bad stomachs the first time and so it just became habit.

Speaking of toilets in Thai bars... the very first time I visited Thailand in the late 80's, quite a few times, I used the toilets in the women's restrooms without realizing I was in the wrong one. I'll never forget the experiences standing in the restrooms full of gogo dancers, who didn't seem to mind at all that I was there.

How much money is a lot of money as a manager of a go go bar 150,000 USD?
I never earned anywhere near that and I'm not worth it.

I've met literally hundreds of farang bar owners in Thailand. It's always been a dream of mine to do it myself. But, it just doesn't sound very sustainable. I don't think very many guys do it successfully. Maybe, one day, I'll just take a chunk of cash to Thailand with the full realization that it will probably be lost. Leave the nest egg at home. And run a bar for a few years until the money runs out.

I also agree regarding the toilet issue. Nothing worse than going to the loo and having to shell out 5 baht to drain the lizard. Have seen 10 baht also.

So if you own a bar in Pattaya do you need to pay monthly fee to the local mafia ?
Some bars, mainly gogos do, but I’ve never done it.
Will defn come to the bar when I am allowed back in. Trouble being in Australia the streams will be on so late mate. Hopefully some talent in the bar will try to sub then.

Phil can you do one about cost to set up your own bar, running cost, red tape, hidden things, do's and don't when setting up a bar. You seem to be one of the best for information so it would be great if you could point us in the right direction.

About the time before you opened your bar: How were you able to work in Pattaya? I didn't think non-Thai were allowed to do regular work in the bar/restaurant business.
Work permit. No problem. With a proper company.

I have been in business for 20 some ideas in the convenient store business I would like to be able to invest down there in just some type of business is it possible
convenience store very little profit margin. Yes you can buy one here.

Whats the RENTAL or Sale price?
rents differ from 10,000 up to 200,000 depending on the location. There is sometimes key money ( up front payment) as well.
So what is a Brit doing owning a French bar in Thailand?
Le Pub was the name of a bar I worked in in Birmingham. I just liked the name.

No, I’ve always had a company and work permit. Costs more but worth it in the long run.
I live in Brazil . I do the same thing here if you get my drift. Anyway .. I had a dream of bringing the 8 hottest Brazilian from here to open a bar in Pattaya called Ronnie of Rio ... be honest men if there was a bar there with Brazilian women doing Brazilian food Brazilian samba everything brazil . . Thais need to own 51% of any business. But the business doesn’t have to be the biggest asset. The lease can be 100% in a Western name.

How were you able to own a bar? I thought it is a protected market sector that Thailand does not let foreigners own?
Good question. The lease is in my name and I am a minority shareholder in the company. But the lease is the most important thing.
Thailand does not let foreigners own THE LAND but you can own the business build on that land. That's how I understand it
Thanks for the answer. So it's like condos where you can have 49%? Is that type of arrangement a valid case for a business visa? Briefly looking at their visa system gave me a headache lol. Hopefully will get to have a beer with you sometime in Q2

No, my bar doesn’t have rooms for rent, but the girls stay there free of charge. I don’t personally pay the police at Le Pub but gogos can spend a lot, small amounts to a lot of people.

I can’t remember the name, but it wasn’t Horn. There is a video on TH-cam of it somewhere. One thing I forgot to say is that there was a short time hotel opposite.

I use to sing in the Crab bar 15 years ago imitating Robbie Williams to a tee , people use to stop on the Soi and couldn't believe what they were seeing. Amazing times God help me !!!!

@@LePubPattaya It did not spoil it but don't see the point for telling half the story. It is the equivalent of telling someone of a joke without the punchline . TH-cam will not fine you for telling a dirty story, but they might fine you for telling an incomplete story.
I didn’t cut it short. The story was that she could only do it like that and ok her first day she for barfines after ten minutes. I never asked the customer what happened after. She worked for a few weeks afterwards.

What’s your gut feeling Phil about when some sort of normality will come back to Pattaya , bearing in mind uk is on the verge of a vaccine ?
Basically when the infection numbers come down. Don’t underestimate Thailand’s drive to remain a World leader at containing the virus and preventing a second wave. They won’t open without quarantine till it’s lower.
