    I LOVE THIS!! This is truly "Novice" EXCELLENT Obedience-- such a great "direction" to train when moving between "excellent/ far above average pet obedience" obedience" (where we're currently at) and closer to higher level "competitive level/sports level" obedience. This fills gaps for us in getting from where we're currently at to where we hope to end. AWESOME!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Oh yeah, TV for footwork on the about turns, that's the way I teach it. First the T then the V before taking a step in the opposite direction of the way you were originally headed. Keeps your dog close to you for the about turns rather than lagging right away. TY Nate for the awesome video as usual!

    Another extraordinarily helpful video. This tape gives many aspects to work on and to enhance a training session, taking basic movements into a whole new level which should increase enthusiasm for both partners as well as improving performance. Thanks, yet again, Nate.

    I’ve had trouble with dropped treats being a distraction. I’ve resorted to mixing ground up kibble with peanut butter and freezing it in a Kong type ball. Now I get much more focus and for greater reward I give her more time to lick.

    At 22:30 you say that it is ok to say, "heel", when you speed up (fast) or slow down (slow). According to the AKC rule book, you may say, "heel" after each Halt. Any additional command will receive a minor or substantial deduction, that includes fast and slow since there is no halt before the command. Sometimes it is worth it, though, such as when my dog decided she needed to talk to the dog in the next ring. Otherwise, I thought you had some really good pointers.

    Great tips. I am working on heeling with my Malinois currently. He gets distracted easily and when outside he wants to eat everything off the ground and at times grabs his leash and shakes it like it's a tug toy. Sometimes he does pretty well, but I'm trying to get him more consistent and to look up at me all the time while heeling rather than at the ground or around him. I'm adding your videos to my playlist.

    I hadn't heard of this test. Sounds fun! We've been working on this without realizing it! But I definitely have places to improve upon (we have automatic sit, for example, but he often does it "crooked" or a bit ahead). Working toward this will give us some fun "goals" and more direction for our training!😁🐕‍🦺❤️

    My girl can walk between my legs, no problem and even drop and crawl but walking backwards in that position is proving a little trickier. She can walk back as I walk towards her but for some reason gets confused when she is asked to do it from between the legs. I'm obviously not doing something right so may have to video it and see. Lucky she's the brains of the partnership or she wouldn't have got this far! 😀

    • @sophiesmith5922
      @sophiesmith5922 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My girl had lots of trouble with back up. I learned to change reward position for power steering to start with, even in center position. Also gave a little squeeze to keep her in, sort of calms her. Like Ari here, certain things are fun and exciting when she finally "gets it" and then she loses her brain. (Ari just vocalizes). Try putting your treat hand under the chin same as you would do for back up from front position. It temporarily messes up the focus but you can get back to focus easily once the dog learns the moves.

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest trying to teach her to back up with the leash pressure as well. It'll help make it more clear. th-cam.com/video/uFlFmCghWxU/w-d-xo.html

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Keep the sessions short and continue adding each step in your training schedule until your dog is performing it the way you like. Every dog learns at a different speed, so just progress at the speed your dog is learning at. Cheers!

    I‘m working to start training for obedience rally but also take my dog to conformation. The automatic „sit“ position when I come to a stop , as required for rally, contradicts to what she needs to do at conformation- the standing position. Hiw can I worknaround this without getting my dog confused? Thx for any advice (at this point she comes to a stand, additional command is needed to sit, not sure if that is ok fornrally)

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that's a difficult one. Maybe you can present a slight signal to the dog, that won't get you pointed. For example; you can teach your dog that when you sniff hard through your nose, that's the dog's command to sit. You can't be pointed for breathing. Just be sure to not do it on accident, so your dog doesn't sit when he's not supposed to. Lol!
