Yes, this exercise is tricky....for me. I get my feet tangled, flub on the marker timing. Am practicing without my pup so I don't confuse him any more than I already have.
My GSD does a "down in motion" much easier than a sit or stand in motion, but we're working on it & getting better. Looks like your Malinois wants to down in motion more easily as well. Your leash pressure trick is great, I'll start that tomorrow!!

Hey Nate! What breeder did you get Ari from? I really love the smaller mals! Also! How would you correct a lazy down? My dog keeps wanting to roll to one side. Mark “wrong” and redo?
Nate, what collar is that, that you directly take off neck and click around waist? I don't think I see it in your store? Could I use a regular slip lead instead? That quick-change collar seems cool though!!
Hi Nate, my dog understood the sit/down/stand in-motion when I'm walking with her. However, when I'm, let's say facing her, and tell her to "come" then say "sit/down/stop" while she's coming to me, she will never do it before fully coming back to me. It can go up to 10 steps / 5 seconds of her running full speed before doing whatever I told her to do. I'm not complaining that she's coming back to me lol, but how can I make her understand that I would like a sit/down/stand from afar ?

Hey Nate, Lovin the content... Just wondering could you also use the shaping box to help with teaching commands in motion, as in walk them into it whilst moving say command etc...was just thinking it may also stop the few extra steps forward or in your experience would this work?
If she breaks Do I walk her back to the place where I told her to down and make her down and then walk away? Or do I start from the heel position and try the e x resize again ? Off leash
Hi Nate - Great Vid. Just wondering could you use the shaping box with this lession to help teach the dog not to take another few steps forward when the command is given as in they don't take a few steps befor they go into the down or sit?
Nate, you're not getting a small kickback off your store products, are you? I just clicked on the Steve's treats (which look VERY healthy & wonderful, we also feed raw), and it went to "find a dealer near you". For all the work you put in, you deserve a few nickels for recommending a great product!! Heck--I don't want your training to become cost prohibitive, but there has to be some better ways to monetize your work than just random TH-cam advertising. You might take a look at Robert Cabrall. He has a pretty good model for making a living off this work. Robert's good, but there's NO ONE better than you on youtube (100% serious).
Thank you for the great videos. Any video about nail trimming planned? I saw a video of some trainer forcing a puppy between his legs for the whole 20 min during the nail trimming. His theory is that if you let the puppy go before you are done just because she resists, she will learn she can get away with it if she resists. The puppy was whining and trying to escape intermittently, so he took time calming her down before cutting the next nail. Is this a good method? I'm worried that the puppy might learn to hate nail trimming even though she is obedient.

Loving the content. About halfway through basic obedience and just ordered your book. I noticed you used both "free" and "break" here. Do you use "break" as more of an informal command to release from a continuation?
Thanks! There are the two positive types of markers: The first one is the continuation marker (I like to use the word “yes”). This is a word or sound that lets the dog know that they are correct and will be delivered a reward. It’s called a continuation marker because unlike the terminal marker, it doesn’t release the dog. It doesn’t change the circumstances, so if the dog is in a stay, they remain in the stay, and if the dog is not in a stay, then they remain free from the stay. In contrast, we have the terminal markers (I like to use the word “free”). These release dogs from commanded positions as well as guaranteeing a reward. Ex.: If a dog was in a sitting position and you use your terminal marker, they are released from that position and will be given a reward (indicating the sit behavior is finished). In order for a sound to be a marker, it must predict one of the four quadrants of operant conditioning. That's positive reinforcement, positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment. The word "break" that I use is just a release word. This is what I use if I just want to release a dog from a position. Cheers!

Hi Nate. Stupid question here. What does Cue marker and luring mean. I have commented before and told you that I used to train dogs off and on for 20 years not using a reward of food when the dog does something right. If your dog is more food motivated than toy motivated, you can also toss a lotus ball with a treat inside rather than throwing a toy behind them!

Hello! I got one question. Does advanced training come AFTET basic obedience or do I have to train my dog INSTEAD of it?
The advanced training will be much easier if you do the basic obedience first with your dog. :)
My dog has way too much food drive to teach a sit in motion this way she would jump up for the food and her ball drive is worse.
This is Kung Fu.
How much food/treats are going through for these training sessions? It feels like your dog should weigh 1000 lbs. after each training!
