This looks great. I think combining brick building & technic, giving the best of both makes for an excellent set.

For the number plate: L316 is the Land Rover product number for the old Defender. HUE is a reference to No.1 which was HUE166 - stored at Gaydon Motor museum NR Banbury (England) and it was the light green colour as this was available widely at the time.

I think the suspension elements is a big step forward in Lego vehicles. Technic cars were always a bit more play and function oriented, while creator cars had the looks. To meet in the middle is, to me, a welcome change and I hope other cars will have gimmicks like this and those found in the DeLorean.

Mixing Technic with System is my favorite way to build as well. Simply lovely set. I wish LEGO would make more sets like this. I think I might be tempted to get this one...

The right number plate at 8:42 has hinges instead of screws. When you do a water crossing with your vehicle water will get pushed into the section behind the front bumper/grille/bull bar/whatever. When this water flows back out it often happens that it rips off the front number plate. The sheer force of the water is too much for the little screws of number plates (as seen on the left number plate). The front number plate often covers the hole for the winch cable. Having the number plate attached with two hinges at the top will allow it to flip open and either let water get out or the winch cable through.

As someone who converts 90% of my builds to Righthand Drive (Movie Replicas stay original Lefthand Drive) the idea of instructions to build Left/Righthand drive is brilliant.
Also loving the re-issue of the tyres although the green hubs will be a pain to incorporate into my regular MOCs. Cant wait to have the $$$ to guy it. Although at $380AUD is it a rather expensive set.

Like others have said i really like the mix of System and Technic resulting in a realistic model whilst remaining very attractive. Still, no matter how much i would love to get my hands on this set i could never justify spending so much as a casual builder. A bit of a theme for Lego lately, specially when it comes to trademarked sets.

This is an amazing set detail wise. It very much brings me back to the early 90's with the Model Team 5550 Jeep. I wish it did have HOG steering as the suspension makes it look very fun to play with and drive over some obstacles.

This set i would REALLY like for my 15th bday which comes in Spring (autumn for those in the Northern hemisphere) as Land Rovers are great British cars, and when i first saw this new land rover set i was glad it was an offroader and im more glad it comes with more detailed accessories like 2 gas cans to refuel the car, an opening toolbox, a car jack to change the wheel, some tools if you get bogged, and a winch like on the older defender, as well as little ramps to help tackle terrain.

07:12 I find it kind of weird that we get 2 positions for the rear view mirror. In all old defenders the rear view mirror is in the centre, regardless of LHD or RHD. Strange. 🤔🤷😂 Guess that’s MOD number 1. 08:40 the left hand is a U.K. license, but square. Not sure bout the other one? European? American? 08:57 It’s interesting, because based on the colour scheme and the plush interior I figured this was being modelled after the “Heritage Edition” Land Rover which was released a few years before they retired the old version. But that had a 2.2l 4 cylinder diesel, not the TD5. And the ninety didn’t get the V8 until a few years after it’s initial release. They did do a special edition V8 in 2018 briefly, so I suppose that could be it? 😂
10:38 I think it looks great with all the gear, but I’m probably not gonna display it with that. Kind of wish instead of all those parts for accessory building they’d have included parts to turn it into a 110 (big ask I know but still 🤷) or a truck cab version with an IFOR Williams back canopy! 😂

The most similar set to this one would be the technic mack truck which is one of my favorite technic sets with a perfect blend of technic and brick building. The sad part is it cost $130 more than what I paid for the technic land rover set new at $330 cad and still having stickers.

Thank you for building this in real time. We have hit a wall with Bag 11. The directions are not easy to follow because there is no clarity concerning where and how to place and line up the parts. We keep watching this video to gain an understanding of how to proceed. My favorite feature of the LEGO Classic Land Rover Defender 90 is the suspension of course and also if it is possible to decide in which side do you prefer to put the steering wheel, the other axle that it is not used can ben used to attach the steering motor and you don't have to remove the steering wheel! I really like this set as well and I really can't wait to motorize it.

I think at this pricepoint at least the stickers on the windshield and the "Defender" writing on the hood would have had to be prints. Except from this the set looks great, no major color differents as far as i can see. And i really like the idea that you can convert this model into different versions and that Lego even gives you two different engines, depending on the version you are going for.
But sadly the high pricetag killls it for me.
I hope that I#m going to get one used for cheap(er) down the line.

  • @simongphotography

Must of used a TD5 puma gear box to get that stick configuration, also not sure the the engine as the standard V8 that came in the UK defender did have inlets like that, that looks more American V8, but at least the fuel filler is in the correct place for a TD5. Think I would put the accessories in different places as we normally use the high lift more than a fire extinguisher, so having it on the roof is a no for me.

Like that there's an option to mirror the steering as I would definitely have it on the left hand side like I guess pretty much all the Creator Expert vehicles up to this point. Does Lego a version for 140.- bucks with a Turbo-Diesel? BTW: Never buy a Landy with a V8 Petrol Engine.

@7:35 "Sorry Tiago, this probably won't be your favourite build..."
Tiago: "There's definitely better vehicles you can buy at the moment from Lego."

The location of the rearview mirror shouldn’t have two options. The mirror is always in the middle, just pivoted left or right depending on what side the steering wheel is.

Nice review, but not for me. I am happy with the Technic defender with more pieces, more functions, bigger size, HOG steering and most of all, $90 (CAD) less price.
