    Great job on the list. There's always going to be people that have different opinions but you gave good reasoning for your spots. "Shohei Ohtani is the best player in baseball.... until he's not the best player in baseball." Well said!! 👍

    Ohtani is the Unicorn and probrably the Goat. The best comment: He's the best player in baseball, until he's not the best player in baseball. I remember in the NBA in the 1990s some tried to crown a new best player over Micheal Jordan until he proved them wrong every year.

    To slightly defend Machado, in the beginning of the season he was playing while still recovering from a surgery, that's why he was DH at the start. That said, if you put any pitcher that can locate a low-away slider or sweeper, Manny will chase those all day lmao. He was also very prone to GIDP. I still trust him as my favorite team's captain though. 2025 looks a little shakey for the Padres, but 2026 is looking good (as long as this new ownership dispute gets settled in a good way) with two very good prospects that can fill two very much needed spots in the infield.

    Honestly I dont know if Mike Trout is even a top 20 player anymore let alone top 10. He hasn't been a qualified player for 5 years now, and the hopelessness of the angels isn't getting much better next year. Mookie Betts at 24? Does anyone actually believe there's 23 players better than Mookie? I'm pretty sure most GM can't name 10 guys they'd rather have than Mookie Betts. It's your opinion, but that is a pretty bad take.

      He was the front runner for NL MVP before a pitch inside broke his hand. When he’s been healthy there has been absolutely nothing to suggest that he’s slowed down, and the kind of injury he sustained doesn’t speak to his health at all, it’s a freak accident that could happen to any player in the sport.
      The only players with a serious argument to be better than Mookie atp are
      Ohtani
      Judge
      Witt
      Soto
      Gunnar
      Acuna
      Lindor
      That’s it.

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Bat speed Dropped HARD (partially due to wrist injury sure but it still happened)
      Speed dropped 15% from the year before - he’s now in the bottom 3rd of speed, defense fell to bottom 20% in baseball in OAA and he hasn’t been good at shortstop when he tested that out, now he’s starting there according to Roberts
      Barrel% dropped from 12.4 to 6
      Hard hit% dropped from 48.5 to 39.5
      AVG exit velo dropped from 92.4 to 89.9 (biggest concern to me)
      Quality of contact got much worse, he got slower, and the fielding got worse. He’s still great but I’m a little concerned in his ability to stay in that top 15 range of best players in the league, totally totally possible but that’s my reasoning to dropping him down!

    • @EugeneMao-op3ot
      @EugeneMao-op3ot 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@peskytalk I love it that you can back up such a risky take with concret numbers.
      I think anyone that's ever had a broken hand will tell you that it does not fully heal in a few months. So I'm assuming he was playing with pain or at least minor discomfort that obviously applies to everything with hitting.
      As far as defense goes, he is getting older so I'm not expecting 2018 or even 2020 Mookie right field defense. Even in the 2024 playoffs, he's still an above average fielder if not elite. When you put him in right, you know your in good hands. I would have a 40 year old Mookie in right vs a prime Soto.
      As far as speed goes, I think that 5th inning single tells me everything I need to know. He still has it when he needs it. I'm actually against guys of that caliber stealing bases in a routine situation. It'll be a shame if Ohtani's shoulder sustain any kind of long term damage from that steal. So I think he has the speed needed, maybe not on a daily bases, but when it counts, you know he'll gut it out.
      Also with a player like Mookie and Freddy, they are warriors. They will give you their heart from their chest when called upon. Guys like Arreaze (sorry for the spelling) who in my opinion is just a stat chaser and give nothing positive to the team will age much more poorly than guys like Mookie and Freddie.
      So with that said, I don't think you can find 10 players better than Mookie, let alone 23. Stat wise, and obviously your projection, it's an argument that can go on for the next 10 months. But if I'm a GM and I can have the best 10 players on a team, Mookie is DEFINITELY part of that team.

    As a Royals fan and huge Yankees hater, having Witt above Judge at this point when Judge just put up maybe the greatest offensive season for a right handed hitter ever is asinine. Shohei IF he pitches is the only player with any argument to be above Judge right now.

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I just like 5 tool players, shohei is the ultimate tool player, he has like 8 tools lol, but Witt is probably the most 5 tool player the game has seen in a long time, that makes me like him more than judge for 2025. Judge was better in 2024 for sure, but I think in 2025 Witt is going to be better

    • @BurntPenguin8371
      @BurntPenguin8371 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think your biggest issue on this list was that you somewhat lacked consistency in whether you were projecting or not. There were multiple rankings like with J Rod or Corbin Carrol in the 40 when they are very clearly better players than that, but you held them back due to their stats from this year. If we are projecting, then they should be much higher. If we are simply going off of this last year’s production, then Judge should be above Witt. Either project or don’t, but you can’t pick and choose when you project to prop up Witt.
      Again, I’m a Royals fan, Witt is my favorite player in the league, and I hate the Yankees. Still, Judge is a better player than Witt right now, and if you are projecting for future seasons, then Corbin Carrol in the 40s is egregious.

I know that Imanaga and Ohtani have been success and so was the first Sasaki and Ichiro. However there have been many who were not as good as advertised as well. Yu Darvish was not the second coming and others have not been as well. Hold off a year. Also Degrom and Trout have been down so long that they should not be on this list and Semien at his age is a question mark. teoscar hernandez, Max Fried, Austin Riley, Stota Imanaga and Jackson Chourio should be here

      @ I dig the list overall, but there is no sense in saying that Soto protected Judge. Judge has poor protection (Wells? Chisholm? Rizzo? Stanton? He led all of baseball in BB for a reason) and still put up one of the best offensive seasons of all time. If Soto “protected” (batted behind) Judge, then he’d have 70 HR’s.

      My brother in Christ, Judge broke the home run record without Soto. He very clearly does not need him. A pitchers job is not to rack up strikouts but to get outs. I recently heard someone say that John Smoltz was the ace of the braves in the 90's because he was a strikeout pitcher. Bulcrap, look at the stats Smoltz was the #3 pitcher behind 2 control artists who had better careers. Warren Spahn, Greg Maddux and Tome Glavine won 300 games without the gas. So judging Miller lower is junk. BTW I'm a cardinals fan not a Mariners fan.

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I still put him as like my 7th best pitcher in baseball, in this ERA, strikeout stuff is very VERY important, giving up home runs can’t happen if you strike guys out, and with the current approach guys have, strikeouts are important. But Maddux was the ace of that staff, DIFFERENT ERAS though

    • @danechatman6086
      @danechatman6086 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@peskytalk I think it must also be mentioned that with power comes for control problems. Some of the pitchers you mentioned have walk problems now for today they are okay but it does not age well because they don't know really how to pitch without gas. There are exceptions but tupically they fall way off as they get to their thirties.

    • @BurntPenguin8371
      @BurntPenguin8371 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      K rate and other peripheral stats like wiff rate and FIP have all been proven to be better indicators of future success than ERA. I’d take a pitcher with a middling ERA but fantastic peripheral numbers over a pitcher with a great ERA but middling peripherals any day. The law of averages will always cause the players with the best peripherals to have better results in the long run.

    Everyone says Juan Soto is a bad defender and I agree 100%. Can someone explain to me how he finished top 3 in the gold glove award? That tells me that the advanced metrics are too flawed for defense and should be revised.

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      He finished top 3 in gold glove bc that’s a popularity contest and his arm is above average, all metrics, simple and advanced AND eye test all dislike him though. It’s the voting that’s flawed more than the stats

    • @AJ_Osser
      @AJ_Osser 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ So we need to stop talking about Gold Glove to compare players on their defensive performance, that's simply a popularity contest.

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It can be a starting point, normally a BAD defended doesn’t win gold glove, but guys like Jackie Bradley jr only won 1 gold glove, even though he was one of the best fielders of the generation, there are definitely better things to look at, but it’s a decent starting point

    • @teddy-ez5zt
      @teddy-ez5zt 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@peskytalkI agree, even John Sterling the Yankees commentator called Soto a bad defensive player, has no range with an average arm, even worse his base running is terrible and has no speed, and pitchers walk him because he's not a threat on the bases.
