- We just checked out Lovebites’ live performance of Today Is The Day and oh my gosh, this was soooooo amazing! Every single band member absolutely crushes it!!!! Asami started things off on the piano, and it was so gorgeous…it gave us chills! Her vocals were, as always, packed with so much power and emotion. Miyako’s sweeping technique was unreal…she makes it look tooooo easy! Midori is thee shred monster. The energy she brings is out of this world. Haruna was unstoppable, keeping the whole performance tight with her killer fills and those drumstick spins…she’s just so fun to watch!

They are currently on a concert tour in Japan.

An old grey haired British Rocker here who remembers the birth of heavy rock and metal in the 1960's/70's. If someone had told me 5 years ago that after all this time, and the bands I've seen and supported, that in my mid 70's, I would regard 5 petite young Japanese women as possibly the best heavy metal band I've ever heard and seen, I would not have believed it. And yet here we are, with me traveling to London twice last summer in order to see Lovebites play. And they are not alone in my admiration of Japanese music. I can list many more bands I have very high regard for. Whatever you guys are doing, keep it up, it's working ! 😄🐺

Either Asami has split second timing or (and what I actually believe happened) she suddenly realised “shit, I’ve got 6 seconds to begin playing the piano” the second time she went to the piano. I’ve watched that section a dozen times and she must literally have had her arms poised to play before she actually reached the piano 18:24

this is one of their lesser reacted to songs and is another favorite. while the solo section may not be quite as long as some of the others it is also one of their best imo. the way they go back and forth between the sweeps and tapping is flawless and effortless. and midori going down the neck is so clean. her fingers are like a spider on steroids and the little squeals are short and well placed as to not interfere with the flow of the song. and as la gringa said - that asami smile at the start would melt anyone watching.

Hi TJ & TG. I’m so glad you liked this song. You’re correct, Miyako was pregnant during this concert. I always love the M&M guitar solos, but they were extra special in this song. I appreciate Jimmy spending the time to break down the different techniques they used and I learned quite a bit. Also, I’m so happy you did turn on the lyrics. I was needlessly worried they might be a distraction. But as The Gringa mentioned, they are very uplifting, and really add to the performance. And thanks for the shout-out to Missioned Souls too! There are three songs where Assami plays piano, but my favorite is Lost In The Garden.

This is probably my #1 favorite LBs song. I listen to it almost everyday. Its phenomenally written, you could listen to it 10-20x times, concentrating on a specific instrument, and pick up something new each time; Haruna's power, fills and accents, Miho's interplay with the drum and guitars, the great guitar work using gallops, dive bombs, octaves, harmonics, Miyako's technique with the sweeps and whammy, Midori's clean fast runs and dive bombs (a hidden gem is in Midori's solo, right at the end of her 1st run, Miyako accents it with a pinch harmonic). Then Asami on the piano with a smile that could stop a World War. 😙🤌‼ Perfection!!

@@jawosammadennhier7062 It was painful not to see her again with Lovebites, especially on Fami's first appearance with Lovebites. You see the Band and you ask yourself: Is anyone missing here? Although they are both good bassists, Fami lacks the presence that Miho has as a born metalhead, and I don't say this as a criticism of Fami, but it seems that smiling throughout the entire song is not enough. Holding that bass steady and pumping energy while shaking your head was one of the cool things Miho had, which is why her musical time with Lovebites is fantastic. Hopefully one day I will think about returning, even if it is as a special guest. I wonder if Miho knew that that would make the Wolfpack very happy, her Wolfpack that never forgets her. @ I understand you well. Fami und Miho are just two absolutely different personalities, and two likewise different approaches to performing, to stage presence, and to songwriting. Both Miho and Fami contribute(d) meaningfully in the LOVEBITES line-up, but I also have difficulties accepting that change of bass player. My _ideal_ LOVEBITES bassist would be Fami contributing to the songwriting by writing complex songs with dominating bass guitar, and _also_ Miho performing on stage, "channeling" Steve Harris, and headbang. "Best of _both_ world", as to say. 😄
Listening "only" to Miho's "thrashy" songs would become too much for me, *and* I am also not convinced of Fami's "passive" (but kind-looking) stage persona.
M&M are just mind-blowing. I also regret missing the Miho era. And that is entirely my fault. I turned down a ticket to see Dragonforce in 2019 and ended up waiting to discover Lovebites music for another 2 years.
Let's see it this way: How awesome is it, that even after Miho has left, LOVEBITES has returned and continues to create stuff at the same quality level as before (maybe even higher)... I've heard from fans, who found them in summer 2021, that must have been devastating! For me it took another 2 years, when everything was good and resettled. Well, actually I've seen a report in 2018 and made a similar mistake like you, I didn't follow up!
@rainerzufall42 Oh I agree completely. The music with Fami is great too. Just feel I missed out. Especially as I had the opportunity to see them with Miho and passed. Did not make that mistake last year. Went to both London shows.
@ Same for me: Missed Hamburg and Wacken in 2018, but drove 1300 km to Belgium and back to see them live. Best concert ever! Even better than Springsteen live 2003, my former #1.

Not always financial passion, but most of the Wolves have their personal stories to tell, and I am convinced, that there is a very special (emotional) connection between LOVEBITES and The Wolfpack. Most Wolves are at least grateful, that LOVEBITES save and honour Metal and enrich it with meaningful lyrics. Many are also deeply grateful 'cause LOVEBITES' music helped them through personal hardships. In my mind's eye, I always see audiences _cheering_ at them out of gratitude, and LOVEBITES _smiling back_ out of gratitude. 😊 🤘

Yes, many thoughts on and around this one, a song that keeps on growing despite possibly looking "simple" on a cursory listen!
Being stuck in the middle of the "Electric Pentagram" album, the one practically loaded with outrageously complex, hard-hitting and beautiful songs, does it no favors, but one only has to see this Live version to get enamored with "Today Is the Day".
And it has so many memorable moments going: from the captivating staccato rhythm on the verses that is not generally associated with LOVEBITES, to the very distinctive solo part (I vibe with La Gringa's explanation of it as "soli" rather, with contributions from all involved - something that in good old times was called "ensemble"!), to maybe the most memorable short note motif on piano this side of Beethoven's 5th... (OK, this being 5 notes, not 4 😁). With Asami smiling mischievously while at it, as if to say: "See what I did here?" 🤩🤘
Then, there is the matter of Miho and especially Haruna, who seem really up for this track and drenched in attitude - honestly, you noted it: what did that drum set do to Haruna to be bashed with such power?! 🤜💥And she obviously seems to take a great deal of liking to the song, since she's singing along to the chorus, too, not leaving Miho alone with it. Haruna does not always do that, except the songs that seem to get her emotions high up... another example being "SSS", of course. 🤯🙃But "Today Is the Day" is obviously another one of those! Grrreat composition!

Straight through my ❤️ l hope you guys continue through their whole catalogue, lots of great moments still to come. Talking about Haruppi's stick tricks and power hits l love the track "Liar" lt's also another great Miyako composed track. Another Asami piano moment is "lost in the garden" with a great Miyako classical piano intro too. Really they have such variation that l never tire of their music.

Early Lovebites has an Aggressive undertone going on. I attribute it partially too their writing style at this time as well as the way Miho plays and interprets her Bass lines. There is No Denying Miho was a Major Force in Lovebites. M&M may be the most versatile and Technically gifted Guitar Duo in the Industry Today. No mindless shred everything is Professors Clinic Level Versatility and Technicality.
