What an amazing finish. The energy in the crowd to force all those false starts in USC’s final drive was insane. And the gutsy 2 point was crazy. Best of all, the hand painted helmets dedicated to their 2 fallen teammates in this blackout game, and to give their mothers the game ball is what Footballs about. What a crazy game!

We have season tickets in that new alumni lounge in the north end and were hanging out on the blacktop outside during that final drive. Been going to games since I was about 4 w/ my dad. So that's about 33 years I've been going to games and this was by far the most memorable.
@@ChunkyJo Absolute legendary game. There have been some good ones with USC in Rice Eccles.
In 2014, Utah makes a stop on fourth down when USC is looking to keep the ball and run out the clock. Then Travis Wilson makes a big run and takes off at the five yard line and is marked out at the 1 yard line by a fraction before Wilson crossed the plain still semi airborne. Then Wilson hits Clay on a one yard out route to take the lead with seconds remaining. USC got one more desperation play that failed from the start.
In 2016, Troy Williams hits Tim Patrick for TD with about 20 seconds left to take the lead after converting a few 4th Downs and skipping a FG to play for the win by before the TD (Williams to Patrick). Again the Defense defends the field in the closing seconds for the second straight time at RES, resulting in wins.
In 2018, Utah false behind 2 scores (another theme in these games with USC at (RES). But then Utah dominates the rest of the way. In 2018 Utah makes their first CCG and falls to UW without Huntley and Moss.
2020; bogus covid game not worth counting.
NOW we get the best game of all at RES here in this video from 2022. It's the best overall and versus USC at RES. Utah falls behind by two scores once more. This time the comeback is catch up until the very end. Utah was down 14 points twice and down 7 points when answering to match the score 3 times until the final matching score and go ahead 2 point conversion for the win at the very end. Again the game winner leaves a few plays, a little more this time. Nevertheless, Utah gets the stop for the third time. It matches the three last second scores and three comebacks since 2014. Utah would make it four comebacks in Vegas. But on this night here, Rising and Kincaid left their blood on the field and played hurt the rest of the season. Yes, the rest of the season.
The rematch in the CCG was obviously not at RES. Although in Vegas, the classis fall behind 14 points ended up with Utah blowing out USC like the 2018 comeback in 2018. However this time it was to become PAC 12 Champions. 2022 was a historic season for Utah to go to the Rose Bowl for the second straight time. Utah beat Oregon twice in 2021 and USC twice in 2022 on their route to Pasadena. Beating USC in the Coliseum in 2021 for the first time since before the Great Depression.

It was statistically one of the worst USC defenses last season. Even with a few transfers, this defense was going to have a lot of trouble. They've played well despite the challenges.
It's hard to play Defense when PAC 12 refs have a Tom Brady bias towards Utah.

@@mattriley2532 I was a foreign student at the U in the late 80's. Never stopped being a fan of Utes' football ever since though Utah football was lousy in the 80's.
A lot of future NFL stars in this game. Lets hope they all stay healthy and continue to play with the same fire and intensity after they exit their programs.

One of the top QBs this year statistically and in ratings. He just doesn’t fair well until he gets into his groove, hard to say he’s worthy of the heisman. He probably would’ve had a better shot last year if he played the whole season

Hats off to Utah for not caving in early. It was very clear the SC defense got exposed and the team isn’t ready to compete in a CFP to any degree. Teams are going to find ways to shut down the offense and what then? We don’t have that championship caliber defense that intimidates other offenses into mistakes like the 2005 USC teams. Even though the offense IS up there with the best of them, not being able to stop Kincaid or Vele will turn things into a shootout based on luck and leaving things in the hands of the officials when faced with an opponent who won’t give up, like the Utes. I think we need to look into ways to close the holes on defense, and even if the defense improves by a small margin it should be enough to win nearly all the games as long as the offense continues to produce.

What a week of college football
This game was going in a bad direction for Utah until they got bailed out on that roughing the passer call that took away an INT for USC. Not sure what happened to the defense after that but it was almost as if they stopped playing because they gave up solid yardage on just about every possession after that but probably the most mind boggling thing was Lincoln Riley election not to use his time outs until there was under a minute left in the game! He should have knew better! Utah was milking the clock from the start of that drive! It was pretty obvious that Utah was all in to win it or lose it on that last offensive series. Had Riley elected to utilize his timeouts properly, Caleb and the Trojan offensive could have had about 90 seconds to work with. Defense and bad coaching decision cost USC

He managed to use a timeout mid play, don’t know how that works. Maybe don’t drill defenseless players either. USC offensively basically collapsed anyways after Addison went out. You had all the shots you needed to win the game, just couldn’t pull it together
Bs call at the end but it all came full circle. Utah deserved to win more and they earned that win. Utah has no defense but usc is supposed to have a good defense. Top 25 are struggling to stay there. A lot of teams that won't recover ranking wise.

that angle looks like he was out of bounds. the angle from the other side shows a leg down. we can't see it through the defenders body but it was reviewed by replay, just like most of Q4 was reviewed

So many little mistakes and some tough calls. A 1 or 2 loss SC team for a first year is pretty damn good though.

Ummm… those tough calls went both ways. USC’s O-line was holding all night and were never flagged. Oh, and how about awarding USC a TO and 5 additional seconds to try to get into FG range…. In the middle of a play!! These refs were literally making up their own rules as they went.
