Good for Sean Clifford. Without a doubt in my mind the best game he played in his Penn State career and in his last game. He deserves all the praise he gets.
He's had several really good games, but in the Rose Bowl, against #8 Utah..yea this was his best game at PSU.

We were rooting for you and for Michigan. So close in both games, and had you both won, we'd be looking at final rankings of 1, 2, and no worse than 5, although I would have argued that a loser's bracket Georgia loss to TCU should have placed PSU at no worse than #4.
Bummer... I really would have loved to tell the ABC/ESPN-owned SEC's fans to eat a big Dawg bowl full of $#!+.
As an MSU fan I always root for Penn State when we aren't playing them. Great game, your season basically mirrors what I hoped for MSU this year lol

IDK, Utah's close, just takes a little bit more to get into the CFP right now. There's always next year... ( and the rule change). Utah can consistently fight for top 8/10 and make the CFP 2-5 out of 10 years. Solid program you've built.
You guys beat "SC" who along with psu I had 100 on in April to win a natty lol and earned the rose bowl but coudn't stop them boys from S.C. :) Utah looked good, but I was wondering what they'd do with Singleton. Remember Saquon had a game in the '16 Rose Bowl and I guarantee Nick was watching that tape every night. He's going to that level which is hard to prepare for or stop.
I think Utah wanted it just as badly, but didn't have the depth or athleticism to compete with Penn State. Their secondary was exposed, and they don't have a game breaker like Singleton.
@@kchall5 They wanted it just as bad until Cam went out. He has this moxie that you could tell just got sucked out of the stadium soon as he was gone. They've also had a rash of injuries including probably their 4 best players before the game and Cam being hurt, they just couldn't get it done. Just wasn't their night especially with Penn State getting some absolutely back breaking plays. C'est la vie.
Um excuse you the only moment we lost momentum and likely the game was when Rising went out. Until that moment we were there with Penn st. Momentum swung hard to Penn st when cam went down. Nothing to do with us wanting it less. We just didn't have the weapons to keep it close. And our defense got fatigued.
How do you know that? Just because they got beat? Basic.

I grew up in the south as a huge PSU fan and I always pull for them against anybody.
To say PSU would beat UGA or that would not have 42 scored against them is for losers. I take that back, it is for the birds.

I don't remember learning that Michigan was spelled with a "B" when I was in school. I guess it's a reflection of a generation gap, because it seems that most young people don't like school anymore.

@Kev what's wrong with you? They'd beat Bama and walk all over tn. Utah didn't deserve to be on the same field as psu. As soon as the 2nd half came, it was lights out. They pulled most starters with 10 to go or it would have been 49-14. Osu and MI both choked. MI is the best team in the country. Psu would have beaten tcu.

That won’t happen until they get a better head coach. Franklin appears to be a nice guy but definitely not a championship coach. He’s a good fit for teams like Vanderbilt that aren’t expected to win. (Got a free pass on the whole players gang raping a young lady and we know why he got that pass). Again he isn’t and won’t ever lead a team to a championship.

For some reason I like the rose bowl better than the other bowl games.Its like the mother of all bowl games and its been around since 1902.Definitely the oldest of all bowls.Them classic pac-12 teams vs big ten teams.A couple of times the Rose Bowl games have produced national champions on football like when Michigan beat Washington St in the 1997 season and when Texas beat Southern California in 2005 season for Texas's national championship win.Cant wait til next year's Rose Bowl in 2024 because I will more likely be there and I don't care who plays just as long as I'm there live. 👍.

The Rose Bowl has so much history and tradition! It was the Bowl Game that my mother always talked about when I was a child, especially if the Wolverines of Michigan were playing in it! Years ago, before the way it is now, teams looked forward to the Rose, Orange, Cotton and the Fiesta Bowls more than most others, but still were excited to go to a Bowl Game just the same! I kind of miss the way it was. Memories. Now that Michigan lost to TCU, this championship game with Georgia and TCU is just another game to watch. It doesn't matter to me who wins. I will ALWAYS be a Michigan, Penn State and Florida State fan first! But everyone deserves to win sometimes.

@@derricklogan2058 its time for things to change. The Rose Bowl needed to realize that and luckily the committee did in time to play ball with the CFP. I still think 12 team playoff is a bit much but it is what it is. Now far as TCU v. Georgia being just another game, it's the biggest game in a while for me. I never thought TCU would get this far but it's been a magical season and the chance to end as champions. Every TCU game this year has been insane, I can't wait.

At 62, I look back and there was a time I never thought that I would see 18 considering the area I grew up in or that I would outlive both my father, (59 in 1980) and my older brother, (58 in 2012). Yes, Jay, change can be good, but as we get older each generation yearns for what life once was sometimes. I think 🤔 if we forget about our history, we will have a harder time accepting the future. The Big Game for me is when Ohio State faces off against Michigan or Florida State Seminoles faces off against the University of Miami Hurricanes or the Florida Gators! The conference has won 1 of its last 6 playoff appearances. Both playoff teams lost. Both division winners lost. Penn State was the only legit redeeming win.

Both teams were in it right to the end. Losing by one to georgia. And six to tcu. Those are pretty damned evenly matched. Penn State got a bit of a screw job. But they made up for it.

Penn State also only had one 1-score win. They looked shakey in their win against NW in the remnants of a hurricane, but outside of that, they dominated their entire schedule aside from the playoff teams
Good for Penn State. I remember us playing that stifling DL, maybe the best we saw. I thought Utah may win this one, but way to represent the B1G after OSU and Michigan fall short. I still can't believe Michigan embarrassed PSU so badly. This team is really good.

The D Coordinator was at fault...the only thing that matters at the end of the game is the score...and halfway into the 3rd Mish gets those back-to-back td runs from Corum. Prior to those runs the score was respectable. D Coordinator should have sold out to stop the run but he didn't.

@@YTSparty Despite the stats we were ahead at one point ...a third of those rushing yards came in those two 60+ yds td runs. Shut the run down and make Mish beat you through the air... that's what I would've tried.
Utahs defense absolutely shredded by PSU - especially in the 2nd half ...and you can't expect to beat PSU with multiple turnovers!
If you watch closely, it was mainly one player...FS #11. Even the typically oblivious national crew pointed that out. Should have been benched after his 3rd big play given up and 2nd TD. He was simply awful all night. Took every bad angle, got caught looking in the backfield, and was out of position repeatedly. Looked like a deer in the headlights. I guess there was a reason he didn't play until he was a senior.

I'm NOT Penn State - but I root for them! I'm a Pitt grad, lived in W-Pa, father in law a PSUgrad, but not into sports. Moved to Altoona in the 90s, Altoona comm theatre - wonderful friends!!! At a stop light one morning, I pulled alongside a pickup, big chrome bumpers and little sticker stating: God is a Penn State fan, as the sky is Blue & White. An elderly couple in the truck, and I got her to roll down the window where I told her I noticed the msg on their bumper. We both were smiling, then I said, But really, God's a Pitt Panther fan, as on a bright, sunny day the skies are Blue & Gold -- and the look this sweet gramma gave me, you know the saying: Looks could KILL - her smile was gone, replaced by a nasty skowel, and it felt like rigor-mortis was setting in on my left side!!! And I said to myself, Well, looks like they take their football seriously here in Happy Valley!! I became PSU fan, esp after they joined the Big 10, and Pitt was no longer in their schedule. This was a GREAT victory for Penn State, esp the Coach!! The Rose Bowl IS the Gran-Daddy of the Bowl games, and I'm so happy for the Blue&White!

and Franklin mercilessly the past 2 years. I always showed support in my posts.
This is a LONG game. Clifford got real redemption yesterday, and at the end of his career.
PSU will, IMO, be top three in August polls, and will deserve that potential going into

After watching PSU play their first couple games, this year, I predicted they were going to win the National Championship. Didn't quite work out that way, but still a stellar season!

Def should’ve showed the play where Rising got injured. Huge play in the game. PSU was up 21-14 when he went out and it def looked like PSU still would’ve won but it probably would’ve been closer.

Penn state got payback. Utah took their ranking for no reason . PSU only losses were to the number 2&3 ranked in the country. Yet so many other teams got the nod for higher spots. Good for them showing they arent pushovers

A curious Packer fan after hearing all the negativity about this kid that he isn't that good. I beg to differ. The Packers did a good job drafting this QB and that decision has been proven right early on.
Compared to most quarterbacks on TV this week Rising was not impressive, but he played very smart up until he decided to risk a gang tackle rather than slide for an easy first down. Utah front beat Penn States both ways in the first half which as a PSU fan surprised me. PSU offense played an uncharacteristic mistake free game. Add Utah giving up the big plays and an inferior back up, the results weren't surprising.
Yeah, this comment makes complete sense and I agree with basically everything here as a Utah fan. I think Kyle whittingham should have put in Nate Johnson as the quarterback and there would've maybe been more competition because if I'm going to be honest with you, Bryson Barnes sucks really bad and is definitely not better than Nate Johnson
@@Quiddarius Thanks and no clue about your backup QB situation. Just know that Clifford played the best game of his life! He's like that catcher who manages his pitchers well but struggles hitting. You could bring in a better hitter but that screws with plate management. Tonight he hit the cycle.

Penn State's only two losses were to Michigan (2) and Ohio State (4) who should have beat Georgia and they're ranked 11th? Seriously? No wonder they destroyed Utah in the Rose Bowl. Big 10, East especially, is such an overloaded conference compared to all the rest. Look what happened to Nebraska since they joined. Not many schools could compete.
