hey guys! this video was a pain to get up due to all the copyright issues, so sadly a few parts are muted and trimmed: Sorry, Sandcastles, and Formation.
hope it doesn't ruin the video too much, tried my best to make it work, such a fun reaction I needed you all to see it.
as always uncut available on Patreon. much love, - connor & kevin ❤

Some of my favorite iconic moments of the Lemonade Era:
    1. The film.. I mean cmon.
    2. Adele insisting Beyonce should’ve won AOTY at the Grammys instead of her (and literally breaking her award in half to give to her!!) 🥺
    3. The Becky with the good hair controversy 👱‍♀️
    4. Her slaying Daddy Lessons at the CMA awards despite racist backlash 🤠
    5. The absolute meltdown conservatives were having over her performance of Formation at the Super Bowl 🤡
    6. Her Grammys medley where she was pregnant with the floating chair 😥😱
    7. Her BET awards performance of Freedom with THEE Kendrick Lamar (the dancing in the water?!?) 💦
    8. The 6 Inch performance for TIDAL

The comment about the distortion in her voice on Don't Hurt Yourself is absolutely spot on. In the music video, she's in a car garage as if she's found his car parked somewhere it's not suppose to be or she found him inside the car. I interpret it as she's screaming at him through the glass, making what he hear slightly muffled and echoey but still bold loud and angry while seeking shelter inside the safety of the vehicle from her rage.

It always been so crazy to me that so many people don’t even try to look into Beyoncé’s work. She actually talked about it in Renaissance and her movie but as a black woman the different treatment she receives from the general public is so obvious. I remember when Lemonade came out I was discussing music with one of my teachers and was saying how amazing the album was and she rolled her eyes and went like « yeah everbody loves her i don’t understand » girl you didn’t even tried ??????
People automatically classify her as a typical pop artist and resum her catalog to songs such as Single Ladies and Crazy in Love without even trying to listen to her albums. You can’t say Beyonce is propably the best female artist of our time who does it all without people trying to downgrade her and immediatly say she’s just overrated.
Despite providing high-quality work for years, she still doesn't receive the respect she deserves. She is being compared to individuals who do not provide as much quality and versatility as she does. Artists like Taylor or Madonna do not have that problem…

Daddy Lessons is just a perfect track, it fits so well in the album storytelling because it unveils yet another side of Beyoncé. It shows us that she was is some kind of way prepared to what could’ve happened to her because in her childhood she saw other women in her life experiencing the same things. And the track is musically incredible: just as we are going back on B’s life, we’re also getting to the roots of black culture/folk music. Amazing.

Even before Beyoncé went solo, most of us (including myself) had a presumption of who Beyoncé was based off of the media. The media has tried to downplay her TALENT and influence in mainstream media for nearly a decade now. She IS the reason all new music is released on Fridays, she IS the reason surprise releases became popular in the 2010’s, she IS the reason visual albums became more popular within the last decade. Sure, it’s 2023 and in terms of popularity, we have the likes of Taylor Swift, but, we still have a living legend outperforming, out-singing, still peaking creatively, and we need to be more aware and receptive of her work past the “image” that the media has placed on Beyoncé.

She created what she wanted and not what the radios wanted. That's why I fell in love and also became a huge fan since 4.

Lemonade is my favorite album of all time. It is spectacular. She joined intimate themes and mixed them with social and political elements. That’s PURE art.
Even the variety of genres. It is not only to showcase Bey’s deep emotions through her healing process, but also a rescue to her black roots. Rock and country are built in black culture and she wanted to take that back.
The whole album is empowering, significant and emotional. No wonder it was considered one of the best albums of the decade. Rolling Stone even considers it as the best female album of the 21st century. That’s amazing.
Cool fact: Lemonade was also the best selling album of 2016 worldwide.

I don’t think people understands how hard she works. I hate using overrated to describe any artist. But I cannot stand when it’s used for Beyoncé. Popular things and people are over hated, but Beyoncé should not be. She genuinely worked from the age of like 7 up all the way up to now. She’s a classically trained vocalist, a dancer, a composer, director and more. The hype she has is more than deserved, and many people don’t know these things. I feel like people hear the most popular, made-for-radio songs from her past discography, but the new albums, where she has more artistic control, really highlight her artistry and the things that make her tick. Truly so talented.
I also love that Don’t Hurt Yourself draws directly from When The Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin, which is an homage of her love for classic rock and a nod NOLA, which was a huge influence on this album’s visual art.

I strongly recommend you to watch the Lemonade Film, it ties the songs even better in a story of grief and reconciliation And on the topic of cohesion it showcases the reasoning of songs like daddy lessons in the album.
Lemonade is a really personal project, but it also states that beyoncé's story is not exceptionally hers, it is a commentary on how trauma and distrust is built and passed on many black relationships, and how hard it is to break a cicle of lovelessness. This vision is expanded on the visual part of the album (which I may or may not have the link, in case you are interested in watching :) )

The astounding thing about this woman is that her live performances are even better, if you can believe it, she sounds better live, her live productions are iconic and unforgettable and become part of pop culture.

I think the different genres in the songs highlight the stark differences between the different stages of grief that her (and every person) experience when there is a break of serious trust. If you notice, at the end of 6 inch she whispers “come back.” It’s such an empowering, boss song that talks about how she is respected outside of the home, but has to plead for her partner, quietly, to “come back.” Just an amazing album. I believe Daddy Lessons works because most of the songs are about her relationship with Jay-Z, and Daddy Lessons is about a different relationship with a significant man in her life (her father), and the realisation that there are echoes of that relationship and the lessons she learned from it in her relationship with Jay-Z. Therefore it makes sense that it is in a different “voice”, or genre, but that it has a similar and connected message to the album as a whole.
