sophomore year in high school my English teacher taught this album as a whole unit. we would listen to a track and then read out the lyrics. we would discuss and analyze it along with learning about the context around the track. we went track to track like they were chapters in a book. I will always be grateful that my teacher choose to teach us that. most people would say that TPAB is a superior album and I don't think I would disagree, but this album I hold higher in my heart because of that unit.
Sing about me, I’m dying of thirst is quite possibly the greatest track ever. So beautifully made, every single lyric. Every verse. The beats. Only a few songs come close to it. The fact it’s wrote and spoke from different peoples perspectives and is so well and cleverly conceptualised is astonishing. It almost flows too well, like it’s too good to be true.
I completely skipped over that song when I used to listen to this album back in high school, only ever listened to the upbeat tracks and BDKMV. The first time I heard Sing of me, I’m dying of thirst I legitimately cried.
The gun shots at the end of the first verse made me feel as if he got shot in real time the very first time I heard it.. A feeling I haven't felt since.. beautifully executed!
I heard this song for the first time the other day and it really hit in the feels. Especially when I'm Dying of Thirst came on. Wish it was a separate track from Sing About Me, because that part hit me the hardest
As a father, I pretty much lost it when his parents are calling during 'Real' and telling him sorry for hearing about your homeboy, I hope you make it back, etc. "Sing this song it's all for you, sing this song it's all for you" is me hearing Kendrick saying to his parents, "I'm trying so hard. I'm trying really, really hard." That coupled with the helplessness his parents feel in that situation, to me, is devastating. I feel for Kendrick, I feel for his parents, I feel for anyone who feels stuck in that situation. Incredible moment of the album.
its crazy, i was just watching your reaction to this album last night ( great reaction to a great album btw ) and less than a few hours later these guys put one out! both you and turning the tables are such entertaining watches keep it up guys!
I’m 52 , I have been a “rocker” my entire adult life. I am just now getting heavily into artists like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole , Kid Cudi, Tyler The Creator….loving this channel….good vibes.
I remember when backseat freestyle dropped as a single and everyone was scared that Kendrick was going to dumb down his music and go radio friendly. Then when everyone heard the song in context with the album they loved it
I listened to this album for the first time, months ago (not when it was released), I had mixed feelings. When I really paid attention to the whole album context and listened with lyrics it became one of my favorites
The first song I listened to of Kdot was Backseat freestyle and I absolutely hated it 😂 but I couldn't get it out of my head, then I started to dig in his music more and more, then I was blown away! He's my favorite artist ever since
he's already radio friendly. they don't play his music on the radio because its not commercially viable. nobody is driving to this shit. insane clown posse is an example of not radio friendly AND not commercially viable. kendrick lamar can say whatever about society that he wants if he puts better beats behind it. he is not blacklisted bro 💀
I absolutely love this channel. The way you two combine Connor’s knowledge of modern pop culture with Kevin’s understanding of music theory and the more technical side of music is just brilliant. Reminds me so much of my relationship with my dad, as music is one of the only things we truly bond over.
I noticed those details after many more re-listens of the album. Same with "and if die before your album drop I hope.. *gunshots*". This album is flawless in my eyes, the attention to detail in the production of it always mesmerizes me. "The art of peer pressure" is criminally underrated, imo one of his best songs, it has it's own story, same with SAMIDOT. And the names of the tracks are really cool, on my first listen when I saw the title "Sherane aka Master Splinter's daughter" I was really intrigued to listen the album, and the vibe of the track is immaculate. It is honestly my favourite album of all-time.
I'm sad that I couldn't get the 10th anniversary special limited edition vinyl.. but I got the CD because the new cover is hard af, I recommend getting it if you love the album as well 🔥🔥
that whole verse gives me goosebumps, the way he makes his voice crack like he is almost crying/being at puberty is phenomenal. Kendrick would be an insanely talented actor tbh, he understands how to interpret something in a particular way, I could see him playing in a movie 🔥🔥
"Sing About Me" was the way I actually discovered Kendrick and got into hiphop. I'm a white guy who grew up in a suburban, middle/upper middle class environment in the 2000s that really looked down on hiphop as a genre, so I had been force fed this view of hiphop as garbage music. Then, in 2014, I was going through a truly awful time in my life. Borderline suicidal, waking up in a cold sweat that had soaked through my clothes every morning for weeks on end, and feeling utterly destitute and worthless. But one night I was browsing TH-cam, desperately looking for anything to distract me from my misery, and found that song. From the get go, it was not what I expected aesthetically or lyrically from a hiphop song. And as I listened to the lyrics, I was literally reduced to tears over the stories and sentiment K-Dot was expressing. It made a profound impact on my mindset at the time and helped me get through the worst period of my life while showing me the value in hiphop as a means for black men and women like Kendrick and so many others to tell their stories. And now I'm 27, doing very well, and I have the waveform of the line "Promise that you will sing about me" tattood on my left forearm. A song that genuinely changed my life
I would hate to discover Kendrick through Sing About Me because you just can’t find any better songs from him lol. It’s like you’re introduced through his very best song and nothing else matches it
@@jasonoh8403 I love practically all his songs, but the one song to give me a similar feeling to Sing About Me since first hearing that song is Duckworth off DAMN. Really similar songs in terms of hiphop as a storytelling medium
You cannot deny that Kendrickʼs one of the greatest rappers ever. He dropped Kendrick Lamar EP, Overly Dedicated, Section .80, good kid, m.A.A.d city, To Pimp A Butterfly, untitled.unmastered & DAMN. *in the same decade.* Iʼm grateful to have witnessed this manʼs talent. Great video again turning the tables, keep up the great work.
There's no denying, Kendrick shouldn't even have to still be in the "is he a great" conversation, the conversation should be about if he's the greatest rapper of all time
Your dad is the dad I aspire to be. Seriously, I hope my kids want to do something like this with me. Cameras or no cameras I would be so down to listen to what inspires them and what they connect to. It opens up a different perspective of how they see the world.
This album reaaally introduced me to the ability of hip-hop to portray a concept through story and feeling. Love this project so much. Thanks for doing this and keep it up with the channel guys!
With the recent beef it’s hilarious to come back to this reaction where the Canadian duo says “he’s the Canadian homie but he just ain’t Kendrick” Another Kendrick W.
I just want to add, that I am glad your dad is grasping the depth of Hip Hop/Rap. A lot of people think its trash music as majority of what is played on radio are the turn up/feel good/violence/bubble gum rap. If more people took some time to dig a little deeper, they will understand how great of a genre it actually is, if not the best, as it is the most versatile. I just love watching people actually understand what hip hop is all about. This type of hip hop is the backbone/life blood of the genre, but there is a time and a place for all the other sub-genres as well.
So true , People who have outright that kind of mindset they are one dimension set in their own ways . They think generic gangster rap that all there’s to it , which that like judging rock music based on only hearing heavy Metal .
i lost my dad when i was 12 to suicide, so seeing you and ur dad get to have this connection while showing him ur music taste is something that i envy but also makes my heart warm every single time (love the 22, a million vinyl in the background) all love from atx 🖤🖤🖤
I lost my dad when I was 10, and I understand your envy and sentiment. I would love to know if my dad found the same passion in Kendrick and all of hip-hop that I do. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you are in a good place now.
Swimming Pools is intentionally framed as a fun party drinking song, as it entices people to listen in more and in doing so find the anti-intoxication message of the song.
in such a terrible time in the world channels like this help keep my mind off things, love this album and you guys and prayers to all the innocent people of Ukraine❤️
I’ve been going thru a tough time and these videos always make me feel so happy and give me such a wholesome feeling which Is missing a lot today love you guys keep up the great work

Not sure how much this will help ease your mind but it helps me to remember that despite how shitty it is rn we're still living in the best more comfortable period in all of history so if they could get through it in the past we can too
As someone who grew up in gang infested Los Angeles, with family who was in gangs but myself not really being tied to the gang life, I understood Kendrick throughout this whole album. Someone who had friends and family willing to give everything up to a block who doesn’t love you and at the same time understanding the rights and wrongs about all that. This will forever be my favorite Kendrick album
this is VERY insensitive as I have an uncle that died in jail from a stroke when he could’ve been saved by all of those scary gang affiliated colored people who did nothing but probably just STAND THERE and WATCH I suggest you delete your comment and apologize to me NOW
Sing about me is so underrated. The lyrics are too real, puts you into the life of people that sadly shouldn't have to experience such events. Amazing album Kendrick+ J Cole for life
It’s the best song / worst song. The first part is amazing but the dying of thirst part is prob the worst on the Album. Wish there was a version without it
This album is absolutely amazing. For me, Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst is one of the best songs I've heard and one of if not the best Kendrick song.
Sherane is one of the best album openers of all time. The coldness of his delivery, the voicemail, the infant-like singing and the drums set the vibe of the album perfectly. Sad that is slept on so much.
@@kevinfromttt wow thanks for the response didnt expect that lol! These videos and moments are so special for you both! Thank you for sharing that with us! Appreciate the awesome content!
the best part as someone pointed out is usually when Connor looks over to Kevin bc he knows shits boutta go down. Especially on the maad city drop here
Sing About Me is a PERFECT song. Its the best hip-hop song I have ever heard; the storytelling is captivating from beginning to end. Cemented Kendrick as the GOAT of his generation for me.
Growing up without a dad sitting here and watching you guys is awesome. Gives me a sense of what’s it’s like to grow up with a dad and showing him new generation music and appreciating things together. All while he makes “your mom” jokes lol I hope one day I can have you guys react to my music that would be a dream. Keep giving us this dope content it’s super wholesome
@Movia🔞👇 whoever is running this account, if you see this, please stop. You know damn well the only people clicking that link are young kids and old men who don’t know how TH-cam works. You’re harming people. Stop.
I remember skipping high school as a sophomore to listen to this album. Section80 was a personal favorite of mine. I listened to GKMC on repeat all day and was more amazed through every listen. Being able to see Kevin’s first reactions is great because I’m always able to witness an experience that I wish I could feel again. I think that’s why I can’t stop watching this channel, it’s so good!
Also, as someone who broke into tears during the beat switch of M.A.A.D City when Kendrick described his childhood, it's so nice to see someone fall in love with this album like I did. It's perfect to me. It made me love and understand Hip-Hop.
My jaw dropped when I first heard him reflect about not smoking because the first blunt made him foam from the mouth. Not only did I relate to that on a personal level but that coupled with the relentless tragedy surrounding him, you can almost feel the insanity taking over of a young innocent good kid. Heartbreaking stuff.
@@daryl7531 And the dichotomy of it following the breathy and angelic "good kid" makes it all the more clear. The two songs could not sound more different.
the fact that so many classics came out this year and the one that won a grammy was Macklemore was one of the most mind boggling things i've lived through
Kendrick has a 3 peat classic Album run. Some people don't give Damn. enough credit, but without a doubt it is not up for debate, GKMC and TPAB are modern day classics. Very hard to get one classic, let alone 2 is dam near impossible
You guys are the best duo reacting. The dynamic between Connor’s rap IQ and Kevin’s enthusiasm and openness to new music is fucking great. Will keep watching as long as y’all are posting 💯💯
Can't wait till you guys do DAMN. Not my favorite Kendrick album overall, but there's some really great moments and the very last song is just... jaw dropping.
the art of peer pressure has to be one of my favorite tracks of this album. the story telling, the beat, everything is on point. great album overall, this is hip hop and we love it.
Shows peer pressure really well, it’s not just people actively pressuring you to do something it’s also doing things you wouldn’t normally do because you’re with the homies.
As someone who grew up a teen in mid-90s LA when it was a gang capital it warms my heart to see someone like Kendrick come from the next generation and be a beacon, but more importantly a messenger to the masses of the trials of being a youth, a good well-intentioned kid in a mad city. Dude even won a Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN… which has one of my favorite tracks by him ever… Fear.
the fact that kendrick wrote jay's verse on money trees, to me, is one of the craziest things about this album. this verse is so hard, bro, and the energy that jay's delivers is amazing also.
No Tiny Desk Concert by Kendrick as of yet, unfortunately, but he did do a couple of "Untitled" performances on late night shows around when TPAB came out and those are extremely good, like some of his best work in my opinion. Definitely worth watching.
the janet jackson vocals in poetic justice are sick, you guys should definitely react to some of her albums (the velvet rope is one of the best rnb records in history)
LOVE this series and how open your dad is to enjoying new music. Very excited for new videos in this series. Would love an episode on MGMT or Black Country, New Road!
This album and illmatic are so similar in how they really allow you to understand their lives and experiences through just absolutely crazy, rich story telling. Such amazing debut albums.
I always felt like Kendrick’s album- while not as good as Illmatic, had like a redemption/lesson where as Nas’ album was more of a documentary. Never once in Illmatic did Nas regret the life he lived or witnessed, while Kendrick at the end of GKMC basically teaches the consequences of our actions and redemption
Tu papá es increíble, una persona con la mente abierta en cuanto a música. Desearía que mi papá fuera igual y poder disfrutar tremendos discos!. Saludos desde México
Don’t get me wrong TPAB and Damn are classics but this album is still my personal fav by Kendrick. Idk if it’s nostalgia but there’s just something about this album
@Thiên Phúc Huỳnh I think the production on TPAB makes it just as good to vibe to. Might just be me, and they’re both fantastic albums, but TPAB is next level in every way.
Had a chance to see Kendrick live right after TPAB came out in October, 2015 randomly in Columbus at a 2000 person outdoor space in the rain for 106.7 IHeartRadio Birthday Bash at LP Pavilion and he performed “Sing About Me, I’m Dying Of Thirst” for (in his words) only the 2nd time because of how intimate a setting it was. And it was absolutely next level. Never forget it. Thankfully still got videos etc but the shit is from an old android 😂
@@ryanmurray7690 Honestly yeah I might as well. I gotta format them better lol cuz it was taken on a shitty old android 😂 But I’ll work on it. I’ll come back and reply once I do
I saw him perform it as day n Vegas in November after two years of him not being able to perform and Kendrick was tearing up during sing about me, the whole crowd was just in awe watching him, it was really emotional.
I think the idea of him saying “Mom I’ll be back, ima take the car for 15 min” is to give people that didn’t grow up in an area like his a perspective of what a parent in poverty has to think about when there kid leaves the house for “15 minutes”.
I found y’alls MBDTF video right when I started to expand my hip hop appreciation and I feel like I grew attached to Cudi and Kanye right alongside you guys. It always feels like I’m listening to the music with people that share my interests. Thank you.
Any hip hop album these guys cover is worth listening to until you appreciate it, even WLR. In following them you’ve put yourself on an excellent path of discovery. A few recommendations that are initially difficult listens would be JPEGMAFIA, Deathgrips, and Danny brown. All are at times very intense, especially in the case of Deathgrips and Danny, but all three are ridiculously good and expanded my (a self diagnosed hip hop head) mind on what music could be, and especially the extent of what hip hop could be.
If you don’t love Kendrick, something is seriously wrong with you. His music is objectively awesome, he literally hasn’t put out a bad project. One of the GOATs for sure.
@@leogitelszzz I personally wouldn't say DAMN. Or Section .80 are masterpieces. They're awesome but they have flaws that keep them from being on the level of GKMD or TPAB
Man I wish I could connect to my dad like this. My parents are not musical at all and there's also a language barrier between us so something like this is just completely unimaginable for me and my pops. I'm living vicariously through both of you
Tried to explain why i love this shit to my friends - this is exactly why! Love the channel guys we all living variously through your beautiful father/son bond, epic stuff
Sherane is the sound you hear throughout the album, and when you hear it, she is present. There is a weird, almost "underwater" sound in the beginning of the first track, and that's Sherane. If you go through the album again, listen for it and it makes the story even more complex and amazing than it already is. Hope this helps! Love the vids, keep em going! DAMN next?
Similarly, when there is that electric guitar riff, it's an indication that Kendrick is talking about Compton. It's seen in BDKMV, MC and Compton obviously.
I have listened to this album so many times but i just realized how everything ties together as basically a story of a night in compton. thanks to your pops for making me notice that hahaha
Early in life this album but mainly peer pressure changed/saved my life. Opened my eyes in a way I can’t describe in a comment. So glad you guys are listening to all these albums that were so transformative to our generation.
I see "Because The Internet" at the background, i cant wait when you guys react to that album, it has a lot of amazing moment in it that made me shocked and i wanna see others people listening to it.
I honestly think you showed him TPAB too early. He was just getting into hip-hop at the time, and TPAB is kind of a final boss of sorts. This definitely should have been the Kendrick album to show him first. Would love to see a redux review of TPAB in the future tho. Great video tho!
I would usually agree with this but TPAB has a lot more classical instrumentation and jazz/rnb structure in both instrumentation and chord progression so it’s a lot easier to come at it from a non-hiphop listener’s perspective usually as long as they are musicians
I will never forget when I first listened to this album gave me the chills the whole time even the interludes. I’m so happy I found this channel. Your dad is awesome!
Totally agree with the storytelling/“script”feeling of this album. Hope you do Because the Internet at some point, another album that builds a vivid story, in its case literally having a screenplay alongside the album
Kevin mentioned that "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" is one of the songs he'll be listening to in the future. I think it'd be fun to hear all the songs he's added to his personal playlist since being introduced to Hip-Hop and all these other Albums. Also, this is my favorite series on YT in a looooong time!
When this album was first being rolled out, Kendrick had a pretty big up & coming buzz and the album was very anticipated. Swimming Pools was the first single/track we heard, so it had a lot of people nervous thinking he might have taken a super mainstream turn compared to his older stuff. Also, the song blew up and thats why it became a party anthem. Upon release of the album tho, everyone was surprised by the genius way the song plays in context. Incredible & one of the greatest albums of all time
This album got me into listening to rap. I was a total indie rock kid. Idk how I became aware of this album, but when it came out I was listening to it all the time. It was the first year I was out of highschool so was driving back home a ton and I would just put this on and groove the whole way down the highway.
same! i was a metal kid and this album turned me to rap. I remember exactly where I heard it and the guy who put it on has no idea how thankful I am for him haha!
I know Kevin said that Drake didn’t do it for him, but I think y’all should definitely react to Nothing Was The Same or Take Care. Arguably two of Drake’s best albums, and they’d be a great way for Kevin to familiarize himself more with Drake’s music.
Been watching you guys from the beginning. The perfect duo. Keep it up fellas, you’re killing it. The growth you guys have had so quickly is 100% warranted. Glad I could tag along on this journey you guys are sharing. Let’s me feel like I’m listening to these albums for the first time again
I absolutely love watching your dad's enthusiasm for what many people in his generation including my parents would consider "vulgar" or "corrupting" music. I just wish the lyrics were explored more deeply but i understand how that might be difficult as this brief overview is already 40 minutes long. I just think, as a person of color, there's so many realities and cultural aspects that Kendrick brings to light in a way that allows him to "own it" that many of us never found a way to express
So fucking cool to see your dad getting the last two tracks' relevance to the album on first listen. I say this because so many people write those two songs off initially, especially Compton. Not realising that Real is the beautiful wrapup to an emotionally draining journey and Compton basically being the end credits scene, kind of a bonus track but still continues the story in a celebratory way. Your dad's engagement to every last second of this masterpiece was a sight to behold!
Even though its probably never gonna gonna happen, a Tiny Desk Kendrick concert would go so hard, he always does insanely creative shit with his live performances
I'm kinda bummed you guys didnt react to the bonus song "The Recipe." You guys talked a lot about this album being like an auditory movie, and I feel like, if you're looking at this as such, "Compton" works as the movie's final moments, and the "Recipe" being the end credits. It also could work narratively as the song the character Kendrick's song he makes with Dre when his mom gives him a phone call on "Real." It's also a great, anthemic track with an amazing final breakdown that I think you would enjoy alot Great stuff as always!
True, some of the Bonus tracks are great, the recipe, black boy fly, collect calls, county building blues, I think cartoons and cereal is technically a bonus track from good kid maad city as well. Hope they listen to them in their spare time at least
Your dad points out details that I only recognize when watching his reaction. You can really feel Kendricks energy change throughout the entire album. From wanting a girl, chillin with the homies, doing bad shit, realizing what’s going on around you, losing a friend, to then rapping on a song with Dr. Dre. One of the greatest albums ever. Then fact that you could go to DAMN next and feel the residual effect of this album is crazy. Kendrick is a genius and we all miss him rn
The effort your dad makes to understand the lines is beautiful. You can see that it comes from a genuine desire to be present and relate to you musically. Reminds me of how mine and my dad’s relationship used to be. Love your videos
Money Trees is still one of my favourite songs to this day, not just off the album but in general. Few things used to make me feel as much as Money Trees would make me feel
I like how Kevin picked up on the percussive element to Kendrick’s flow, which progressive to the equivalent of a drum fill by the time you get to songs like ‘Alright’ in later albums.
This album really made me fall into hip hop even more. The more time passes the better this album ages. Kendrick really has no misses when it comes to albums. Hope he drops soon really need kdot to show what rap really is.
Yeah this album (but not ONLY this particular album) is one of the things I bring up when ever somebody is all “Hurr durr all rap nowadays sucks, I only listen to real rap like biggie and Tupac”.
Fr, I listened to this 24/7 when it came out, it got me into hip-hop. But now when I listen to it, the more I listen, the more I realize that every single song is a hit lol.. they don't make it like this anymore
28:28 I’d enjoy seeing you all react to “Nothing Was the Same”. I feel like it would be an interesting thing to see guys work through together. I’d love to see what you and your dad like and don’t like on that album.
Currently a student going through midterm season, I throw you guys on to keep my spirits high. Thank you for the good vibes I hope you two enjoy making these videos as much as I love watching them. CHEERS!
sing about me im dying of thirst makes me cry every time, so beautiful. You and your father are amazing at capturing those feelings. Keep up the good work. Would love to meet you guys some day!
GKMC is the soundtrack of my late teens. Graduating high school, driving around with friends and hitting routes that summer/fall and feeling so fucking free. This is one of those albums I always want to listen in full and just sink into the nostalgia and remember all the good times of being young with no care in the world. This album is a part of me and undeniably his best. I wish I could experience this album for the first time again! I’m so so so happy y’all finally reviewed it!!
Same here. After school on fridays getting ready to party, buying the alcohol, setting up the big wall of speakers at a friends house. Chasing girls carefree, hitting bongs, drinking and doing shots to Swimming pools. Getting driven to other peoples house parties blasting Backstreet Freestyle. Saturday repeat. Then the seedy Sundays, driving home from parties at 11AM feeling so fucking tired and listening to Bitch don't kill my vibe and Sing About me and then repeat the whoooole thing again and again and again.
As a heavy metal fan and rock in general , not like I wasn’t expose to it but this was the album that made me actually get Hip pop for the first time and went into the rabbit hole of navigating trough all the junks to find gems . I hope you react to Section80 by Kendrick Lamar as well , don’t know why people tend pass on it as it an amazing album . Kendrick first 3album are definitely in my top favourite music albums of all times
30:59 lmao no worries there. Everyone feels and becomes a bit of a hip hop aficionado after they hear and appreciate Kendrick. He sets the bar so high you really do just think "yea but it's not Kendrick"
Often times, I find older that generations are easily dissuaded from new music, (especially hip hop) for a number of reasons. Allowing an open platform for the discussion and appreciation of influential music of our time is so important. Great music transcends generations, and this series shows exactly that.
I will never understand why people can’t be more like my mom: LCD Soundsystem, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rage Against The Machine and Death Grips are some of her favorite groups. Genre and era don’t affect her perception. I’ll always love sharing music with her even if she doesn’t always love it (Swans & Mdou Moctar weren’t huge hits lol)
My favorite not only from Kendrick but also my favorite hip-hop album of all time, listening to it at release was one of those shifts in perspective you have once in a lifetime.

The first song I listened to of Kdot was Backseat freestyle and I absolutely hated it 😂 but I couldn't get it out of my head, then I started to dig in his music more and more, then I was blown away! He's my favorite artist ever since

A song that genuinely changed my life

same! i was a metal kid and this album turned me to rap. I remember exactly where I heard it and the guy who put it on has no idea how thankful I am for him haha!
Was waiting for more K.dot, love you two and wish you nothing but more success, your father is a great man hold him close!
Just made me realize how much I miss this album. Kendrick is pure 🔥.
Yo same. I haven't listened to this album in years and I'm sitting here singing and rapping along like I listened to it this morning.
I know Kevin said that Drake didn’t do it for him, but I think y’all should definitely react to Nothing Was The Same or Take Care. Arguably two of Drake’s best albums, and they’d be a great way for Kevin to familiarize himself more with Drake’s music.
Or ready to die
No bro I was saying the same thing nothing the was the same would definitely change his opinion
Def doesn’t know drake music would be dope too see his opinion flip with more exposure
th-cam.com/video/V_bI2TImh2E/w-d-xo.html
If youre reading this its too late is drakes best tbh
”And if I die before your album drop i ho- 🔫” from SAMIDOT hits everytime
Seeing Kevin’s journey through modern music is just amazing…
Been watching you guys from the beginning. The perfect duo. Keep it up fellas, you’re killing it. The growth you guys have had so quickly is 100% warranted. Glad I could tag along on this journey you guys are sharing. Let’s me feel like I’m listening to these albums for the first time again
th-cam.com/video/f2zvzgKvKaU/w-d-xo.html
I personally think this is the best rap album of all time.
to pimp a butterfly would like a word
Respectable
respect your opinion but tpab is better
agreedddd
Compton is probably my favorite track of the album. It’s like a celebration of life after the whole album is done
lol ur names daryl lol
The fact Kevin can appreciate the brilliance in tracks like Backseat Freestyle is so dope. So open minded
This was one of the most impactful albums for me in my late teens - what a masterpiece.
Even though its probably never gonna gonna happen, a Tiny Desk Kendrick concert would go so hard, he always does insanely creative shit with his live performances
why would you put this idea in my head 😫
I'm kinda bummed you guys didnt react to the bonus song "The Recipe." You guys talked a lot about this album being like an auditory movie, and I feel like, if you're looking at this as such, "Compton" works as the movie's final moments, and the "Recipe" being the end credits. It also could work narratively as the song the character Kendrick's song he makes with Dre when his mom gives him a phone call on "Real."
It's also a great, anthemic track with an amazing final breakdown that I think you would enjoy alot
Great stuff as always!
The Recipes one of my favorite songs of all time, kinda disappointed they didnt react to the deluxe songs
@@Thouxanbanquincy I feel like the Deluxe is the celebration of the album itself. If you feel me?
True, some of the Bonus tracks are great, the recipe, black boy fly, collect calls, county building blues, I think cartoons and cereal is technically a bonus track from good kid maad city as well. Hope they listen to them in their spare time at least
The Recipe is top 5 on the album
@@genesisosuna what about now or never bruh that's like the best one
This is def one of the greatest album of all time
Easy
Jay Rock is amazing on the song and it made me a fan of him, he's still one of my favourite rappers these days, I love his albums.
June I believe
@@liamernst9626 Dont get my hopes up brotheR
Yeah this album (but not ONLY this particular album) is one of the things I bring up when ever somebody is all “Hurr durr all rap nowadays sucks, I only listen to real rap like biggie and Tupac”.
@@teriba453 its actually confirmed he'll play some songs from the new album at a concert in Europe. I saw it on r/kendricklamar
@@liamernst9626 nice
at 30:43 when he said "He (Drake) is not Kendrick" Is the most well aged sentence i've ever heard this week🤣🤣🤣
given the timeframe thats not very impressive lol
Sheesh this reminded me how much I love this album. Literally hit after hit.
Yes!
drake's best start-to-finish project
@@theabsoluteWOAT definitely, I think it would be awesome to see these guys listen to it.
@@theabsoluteWOAT what about Take Care?
@@jonni.7744 What about IYRTITL
Only 20 minutes in so I’m not sure if you mentioned it in the video
But fun fact: the mom and dad skits are voiced by Kendrick’s actual parents
Undeniably?
I really feel all that tbh but undeniably his best? This has more replay value for me but i think tpab is better
@@sam_van_hecke THANK YOU
100% same. Graduated high school in 2012 when it came out
As a heavy metal fan and rock in general , not like I wasn’t expose to it but this was the album that made me actually get Hip pop for the first time and went into the rabbit hole of navigating trough all the junks to find gems . I hope you react to Section80 by Kendrick Lamar as well , don’t know why people tend pass on it as it an amazing album . Kendrick first 3album are definitely in my top favourite music albums of all times
almost makes me sad you didn’t let the songs flow into eachother. they have perfect transitions all the way through
Copyright moment
Well dad does go back and listen to albums again with no interruptions
30:59 lmao no worries there. Everyone feels and becomes a bit of a hip hop aficionado after they hear and appreciate Kendrick. He sets the bar so high you really do just think "yea but it's not Kendrick"
Unfortunately that happens
For real, Kendrick really raised the bar so much it ain't even funny.
Plus DRake is mid
It was like that for a good 5 years after GKMC this album single handedly ruined how i used to listen to music.
Often times, I find older that generations are easily dissuaded from new music, (especially hip hop) for a number of reasons. Allowing an open platform for the discussion and appreciation of influential music of our time is so important. Great music transcends generations, and this series shows exactly that.
Nice pfp
I will never understand why people can’t be more like my mom: LCD Soundsystem, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rage Against The Machine and Death Grips are some of her favorite groups. Genre and era don’t affect her perception. I’ll always love sharing music with her even if she doesn’t always love it (Swans & Mdou Moctar weren’t huge hits lol)
My favorite not only from Kendrick but also my favorite hip-hop album of all time, listening to it at release was one of those shifts in perspective you have once in a lifetime.
its incredible
dad's thoughts on drake' feature on poetic justice aged very well
