    Thank you for doing something that really benefits fellow XK owners. These highly detailed videos must take ages to research and produce. Done the microswitch this morning following your guide with the links provided. Took a couple of hours. Mine was corroded and the micro switch had no switch acton at all. I managed to wriggle the latch out with the interior door handle still attached. Thank you once again.

    Hi Damion, I'm not very mechanically inclined, and I have little experience in working on cars. But, after watching your excellent video, I stuck my courage to the sticking post, and attempted to change out my 2003 xk8 door lock/latch, which had a bad microswitch. I was able to complete the repair satisfactorily, and now the passenger side window goes up and down by 1/2" upon door opening/closing the way it's supposed to. I also availed myself of your fantastic door panel removal video. Honestly, I'd never have been able to perform the repair successfully without the instructions and direction provided by your videos! They are a lifesaver!!!!! I can't thank you enough!!!!!! You rock!!!!!!!

Well done, you must be very pleased to have fixed it yourself and save some money in mechanic costs. Money to spend on fuel unfortunately probably other repairs. Thanks again, Regards Damian

    Hello Damian. Thank you for this excellent video, I have been watching it with great interest since I think I have to replace a microswitch on the passengers side ( right side) of my lefthand drive 1997 XK8 to get control with the side window. The door locks and unlocks without problems but the window lives its own life. I am not able to operate it with the window switch at the passenger side, but can operate it with the window switch on the drivers side. The problem is that when I raise it fully it wont stay closed but goes immediately down again. If I raise it to almost top position it will stay there. I have tried to reset the window mechanism ( after disconnected the battery) as pointed out in the instructions, but it does not help, the window on the passenger side won`t " take learning". There is no problems with the other window ( left- on the drivers side) and my battery is in good condition. So after studying the internet and the Jaguar forums and your video I think that this can be due to a defect microswitch and that I have to buy an Omron D2SW-3L3MS switch and replace it. Can I be so free as to ask you of your opinion- do do think this can be a good hypothesis or du you have other suggestions?🙄 Best regards Knut H Kierulf, Trondheim, Norway

      @knuthofftkierulf3617, this is an interesting problem. You can see the cause when looking at the wiring diagram Fig15.1 Page 59 of 123, available for free on our website modurol.co.uk . There are two independent switches for the passenger window lift control, in the drivers side and passenger side switch packs. This would explain why the drivers side controls are working but not the passenger side. The passenger side microswitch for window open and closed is broken and needs replacement. So, we would agree with your hypothesis and you need to investigate the passenger side lock microswitches. Hope that helps and please let us know how you get on with your repairs, regards Damian

    Hello Damian, I'm a new early 2000 XKR owner and I'm watching all your videos with great attention. Thank you very much.
    My central locking is not working. When I press the unlock button on my remote to open, I can hear something like a relay ticking but the door does not open. Same for when I want to lock the car. The alarm arms and disarms but the door do nit lock/unlock. Even using the key is the same with the difference is that, when I use the key, the alarm arms when locking but does not disarm when I unlock, I need to disarm it using the remote. I can however, open the boot with the remote.
    What part do I need to buy? Both side locks? Thanks for your comments and help

      @reyrob, "using the key is the same with the difference is that, when I use the key, the alarm arms when locking but does not disarm when I unlock, I need to disarm it using the remote." This is normal, the alarm is disarmed only by the remote or key in the ignition and not the lock. Ok sounds like one of the microswitches is faulty. Assume the window drops and returns OK? Assume its only the drivers side door lock or is it both sides?, regards Damian

    • @reyrob

      @@ODRModurol Hi, thanks for your reply. The windows on both sides work perfectly and I can actually operate them also from the lock however, both sides, driver and passenger doors do not lock nor unlock together (central locking) with the key or the remote. The only way to lock or unlock the passenger door if manually from inside the car.

    Hello Damian, my near side actuator has an intermittent fault. I want to replace it. I’ve looked through VDO website and Continental aftermarket, but can’t find any reference to Jaguar being fitted with their central locking actuators.

    Hi Damian thanks again for your video and responsiveness to questions. I tried to change the actuator microswitch. The Omron version referenced in the video is almost the same size (slightly bigger) and importantly the holes match up to the two plastic retaining pins. However the 3 wire design across the bottom, as opposed to the OE 2 wires from one side means that the red wire blocks full insertion of the microswitch into the very tight space. The only way to fit the Omron switch will be to cut the plastic frame holding the switch, but without doing it I can't be sure it will fit afterwards! Do you know if the OE microswitches are available?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christopher, I am pretty sure the OEM microswitches are not available. You might be able to buy a second hand used mechanism and strip out the switches or use that unit instead. Interesting observation and thank you for the feedback, regards Damian

    So a few points on this video. Which micro switch controls the door automatically latching and un latching about 5 times? Why does my fuse in my trunk blow out? When I do replace it the alarm fuse it starts to tick the count down to triggering. My gas door and trunk release stopped functioning also. Is there one micro switch that is going to cause all that?
    Secondly. Is there a way to test these switches before digging in so far?
    Ok now the door card. Is there a way to fix those broken inside green plastic pieces that hold the fur tree fasteners?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas, Jags can get complex, especially as one problem can cause a sequence of issues. low voltage is the first place to start. Please ensure the battery is in good condition and fully charged. That’s the easy solution. Other than that It sounds like one or more of the microswitch has failed. In theory you can test these from the door harness socket together with the wiring diagram available for free on our websites www.Modurol.co.uk . Practically it’s easier just to remove the latch assembly. You can physically see and test each switch for problems. Replacement door card plastic mounts are available. Good luck with you repairs, regards Damian

    Great video but I've got a question? My 2005 XK8 has decided to lock the passenger door and nothing I can do will get it open! I've managed to get the door card off but how do I get the door open because the actuator has got a plastic jacket on with no screw in sight to reveal the switches. Also it's going to be impossible to get at the torx screws to remove it completely with the door locked shut. Any ideas would be very welcome because I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

      Thanks Damian but that’s what I thought would happen but unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I had to remove the screw which was facing the door skin ( not visible ) with a posi / Philips screwdriver bit and a 1/4 small spanner! This enabled me to get the plastic cover off the mechanism. The large switch with the corrugated rubber cover was stuck in the down position. A quick prise upwards with a screwdriver opened the door. A new ( secondhand ) part is now on its way because once I got the door open it then refused to close

    hello Damian, I really appreciate this video. my 99 has been having this issue for about a year now, it has gotten worse and in recent couple months it’s been causing lots of issues (no locking, door open alert, random alarm going off and window not working intermittently, and possibly a battery drain)
    I ordered an entire actuator with the cable, from a low mile car, it recently arrived, so i shouldn’t have to break into the assembly switches,plan to do the job soon. I wanted to ask you, what did you mean by marking the screw with a sharpie? and ensuring it’s in correct position? I couldn’t understand that part and i’m worried if the screw is a fiddly thing i shouldn’t start the job until I understand what you meant. 5:42

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend marking to screws as shown because behind them is a slot. Without marking you won’t mount the rail in exactly the same place and you will need to retune the window alignment. Marking will show you exactly where it need to be reassembled and avoid unnecessary faffing about with alignment. Assuming it was Ok before. Hope that explains the idea and helps with your car, regards Damian

    hello, can I ask another question about this? after installing my replacement actuator, and plugged things in (without door card to test), I plugged in the battery. after plugging in the battery the correct way, the car started doing all kinds of things on its own, windows started moving, started hearing sounds, clicking sounds, then when I opened the door the alarm started going off, the door would not latch at all, the window went up and down (also the convertible top suddenly went up when i put the key in to stop the alarm), when i tried to mess with the handle to get the latch mechanism to open for it to shut, the window would start going up and down, kept hearing clicking sounds at trunk, alarm went off again, grinding sounds sometimes, it was going haywire. also heard like a buzzing sound coming from the dash when i first connected battery, it stopped later. no idea. i disconnected it, do you have any advice? does the height of the metal lines that connect with the black clamp matter in excruciating detail when you reconnect it? I put them together but maybe it needed a little extra height before i clamped it?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      h7 pubgm, Sounds like something isn't wired up correctly. The alarm is armed and disarmed by the fob. Although can be disarmed by the key in the ignition. The windows moving can be triggered by one of door microswitches and also explains the door not latching. Clicking noise in the trunk is probably a relay and buzzing under the dash probably the aircon flaps moving at a guess. I would double check the wiring and that you have the correct parts. Is the outer door handle sitting flush? You have the added complexity of it being a convertible. Double check the wiring and would try again but with the roof up and windows up. Whatever you do, do not fit the door card until you are happy its working OK. As you can't get access with it on and have to destroy it to get it off with the door closed. Not sure if you have replaced a microswitch or the complete unit? Hope that helps regards Damian

    • @h7pubg
      @h7pubg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ODRModurol sorry, to elaborate, yes I replaced the complete unit with a fresh (according to seller tested) actuator. to be honest i’m not sure what went wrong, or what wiring I could have done incorrectly. since it was relatively plug and play. the door handle is flush, but the door cannot even close whatsoever since the latch is stuck on closed (door is open latch just does not unlock to allow it to close against the car) when the alarm went off the 2 times I just put the key into the door keyhole in unlock motion and it turned off. to be fair the alarm both times went off from me messing with the handles I believe, trying to get the latch to open to allow the door to open and close

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom, that’s a tricky one. The lock on the passenger side has two levers, one from the outside handle to open door and one from the inside door handle to open and unlock the door. The actuator of the central locking works on the same lever as the inside door handle (almost). Obviously you can’t get the door card off with out damage as the door is closed over the fasteners you need to remove. Cutting a hole in the door card might be the last resort. I would first charge the battery and try to cycle the central locking (plus dead locking) and or interior door handle and hope it makes a faulty micro switch and opens. Sorry I don’t think there is a easy work around. Finger crossed and good luck, regards Damian

    Hello Damian,
    Just supposing someone has a problem with their door locks, not locking, setting off the alarm, window controls not working properly etc etc. Before that someone undertakes open heart surgery on their doors, removing the door cards, breaking fir tree clips, taking out the old actuator assembly, buying another tested unit from Auto reserve, fitting the new unit and finding the problem still remains, then taking the car to a vehicle electrical specialist and finding there is nothing wrong with either of the actuator assembly units, that someone should check the electrical connection is fully pushed together on the drivers door mirror and window control that they replaced just before the problem with the door locks started. This is all pure conjecture, after all who would be that stupid?
