With a voice like that, who needs instruments...inspiring, haunting, and amazing.

A voice like that comes once in a lifetime. Makes me laugh when American Idol crowns a champ because they have no idea what a voice is. Today's artists lack the soul and heartfelt emotion that comes out of every song. 70's or not Karen's voice is far superior to Mariah, Whitney. Watch Katy Perry live and you will see errors but watch Karen and every note is musical perfection.

From the very first note you’re captured. What a natural gift our Karen Carpenter had. And the black and white film takes us back to a time that is very different from the times we are experiencing now. Never get tired of this sweet angel filling my heart!! 💜💜💜

she had a delicate voice. she didn't yell like so many other "great" singers. she didn't need to yell or scream or do useless acrobatics. she simply had an exquisitely beautiful voice.

Her best performance of this song....
I love how Richard directs the band and orchestra while he plays.
She was a goddess in voice.

This song is so haunting it brings tears to my eyes...back in 72 i was in the 11th grade and my school put on a play..and this song was used as a backdrop..i will never forget it i..i fell in love with the voice..it would not be long jus a few short years before next thing i knew she was dead..i cried.

@greenwich1754 i strongly agree. karen sounded best when the instruments behind her were not too loud, as they tended to drown her voice out, like in some concerts. she is at the top of her game in this concert.

Jim Anthony looks too big on Karen's drum set.

Someone should've kicked his tail off her kit, and let her jam!

I really wish Richard would change his mind regarding their live performances. I think that this is their best live performance (entire concert), as it was still small enough to be intimate, and Karen still played drums! Also, Richard'd dialog earlier in the show is interesting. Oh, to have a re-mastered/hi-quality dvd of this show!

i agree. in order to be considered a great singer on american idol, you have to scream. sadly, i believe karen would be quickly cast off that show because of her understatedly beautiful, delicate voice. that's why i don't watch it.

I heard Mike Curb talk about her voice. He said when she would sing along with the radio in the car, she was barely audible. There is something about her voice when amplified through a microphone that is unique.

@blkshepherd It was actually more than a few years after 72 that she passed away. 1982 I believe.
