    • @parularora
      @parularora  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think different brands need different amounts of water. Usually acrylic gouache needs a bit more as you need very little paint but traditional gouache need a bit less to have a consistency that makes it opaque.

    I’ve never thought of gansai as a gouache mostly because if the satin finish I think… but now I think about it, it’s also like a mix between acrylic and watercolour similar to gouache, but satin. If you like gansai you will like Holbein watercolours because they’re super pigmented and have a similar satin finish to gansai when built up, same creamy texture too!

    • @parularora
      @parularora  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, initially I didn’t think Gansai were more like gouache. But since trying the Choosing Keeping ones they mostly fry out matte when opaque and feel more like gouache. A lot of the pastel colours have white pigment in them so feel really like gouache. Thanks for telling me about Holbein watercolours. I’ll keep that in mind!

    Question ( in your opinion) do you think one learns best with lower quality supplies in the beginning? do you think it’s beneficial to try adding higher quality supplies as soon as possible ?? I find myself hesitant to work on more costly paper ( worrying I’ll fail n waste) but at the same time ik the paper absorbs, holds the pigment, and layers like a dream. I should point out I’m an overthinker 🤣
    Sidenote I would love to thank you once again for such an amazing video. I was feel like I’m hearing a voicemail from a friend thank you🥰. I Always find myself reaching for sketchebook inspiredddd 🎉❤

    • @parularora
      @parularora  ปีที่แล้ว

      What a great question! In my opinion and experience not only at the beginning but even I tend to feel precious and the pressure of creating a masterpiece when using expensive art materials. So I would suggest go with something more affordable that will take the pressure off. Till this date I don’t use fancy sketchbooks. My go to sketchbooks cost less than £8-9. And when they are on sale I end up stocking them up. These day you don’t have to compromise on quality for price. There are some great affordable options for nearly any medium you want to try. I hope this helps and thanks so much for your kind works about my video! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏽☺️

      Thanks. I am obsessed with gouache. Well if you are comfortable with colour mixing then any of the brands I recommended you should just get their primary colours and just try them out. Ahhh it can be a bit confusing after using tubes. But if you are familiar with your colour theory then it gets easier. Think colour wheel. Primary colours mixed get secondary colours and so on. • @parularora
      @parularora  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As much as I loveeee Carandache for their colour pencils(which are probably the best), when it comes to Gouache, Holbein for me is the undisputed winner in my opinion. The pigment is far superior and the colours are so much more vivid. But the problem is it’s not easily available to buy. I bought mine from EBay all the way from Japan. I am dreading when they are over. On the other hand Carandache is so easily available (at least here in the U.K.) and you can also buy refill pans separately. I plan to make a comparison video soon! 👍🏽

      @@parularora Yes Holbein is a little pricey in Australia too (if you can get it). I stocked up on Holbein paints when I was in Japan but didnt get the pan set, which I regret now :)

      @@raches4264 Ahhh I can imagine. When I do make it to Japan, I am going with empty suitcases. Hahaha. We get Holbein tubes for both traditional and acrylic gouache. It's the pan ones that aren't available here in the U.K.

      @@parularora I figured the Holbein would be better. I've been able to find things on Amazon Japan and found a set of 24 that will ship to Canada. I use dried tube gouache palettes and they work all right so I really don't need something new but... Right now I'm using Japanese Nicker paint which is basically gouache and it rewets well in a palette.

    What type of gouache is it in the round pans?

    • @parularora
      @parularora  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are Holbein pan traditional gouache. But I think they are called Opaque watercolours on the packaging.

    Hello Parul ! Please ( i can't find it ) what is the name of your gouache palette (3:20 the one you show the round yellow one ) - Thank you very much . Love your videos ! New subscriber💗

      Ahh thanks. It’s the Holbein Opaque pan watercolours (gouache really) but they aren’t easily available here in the U.K. and this side of the world. I think you can order them directly from Japan from Ebay and other sites.

    What brushes are you using?

    • @parularora
      @parularora  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mostly use synthetic brushes. Not too expensive as I end up using them for both gouache and acrylic.

      If they are traditional gouache then you could probably cut open the tube and still reactivate them. I’ve read somewhere that if you add some gum Arabic (as that’s the binding agent for gouache) along with water that might help it. Not for acrylic gouache though.
