I am obsessed with colour and pattern and love capturing all of this in my work and in my sketchbooks. On this channel, I share my art process, my favourite art materials, and behind the scenes of my studio life. I hope you have a fun time!

Travel sketchbooks: The biggest lessons I’ve learnt
Sketching while traveling can be both pure joy and equally stressful. I have a tough time deciding what to draw, and how much to draw in my sketchbooks. Trying to strike the right balance between drawing everything I see and not drawing at all, spending time with my family, and being in the moment is not easy. Over the years I have done a bit of everything, not drawn at all, and felt guilty or spent my whole time drawing and not spending enough time with family or friends and felt guilty. So in this video, I wanted to share a few tips that I've learnt over the years, on how to enjoy drawing while travelling as an artist without having full-on FOMO.

Overcoming CREATIVE BLOCK with colour play
มุมมอง 4.4Kปีที่แล้ว
When I'm feeling anxious, stuck, or in a creative block, I give myself permission to open my sketchbook and just play with colour. I just fill the page and go with the flow. It’s intuitive. I play until the colours take on a life of their own and connect with each other. I would love to know if you guys do the same or have any other ways of managing creative blocks. ✨Art supplies used or mentio...

Choosing Keeping watercolours ART HAUL & review
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I visit the gorgeous stationery store, Choosing Keeping here in London. I try and review their Retro 1980s Japanese Gansai watercolours set and drool over the rest of their sets. Have some good old swatching sessions and test my new Gansai paints out with some pattern painting. And finally, I share my thoughts about them and compare these watercolours to gouache. ✨Choosing Keepin...
Hello. Where are you? Your art and videos are beautiful.
Lovely!!
i love choosing keeping! i just got the 1940s set for christmas and im watching lots of videos about gansai to learn how to use it! i love your paintings of bugs!!!
I've never done swatching to this extent, and I'm realizing that it could be why I've never really dug into using some of my materials. It's a slow Sunday for me, so I think that's exactly what I'm going to do today, as I prep for making my own favorite art supplies of 2024 video. it'll get me thinking about some of the supplies I may want to dig into in 2025, that are sitting here in my very own house!!! Love this idea of creating swatch cards outside of my sketchbooks.
Amazing thoughts and inspiring sketches. So beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration for my next trip abroad!
Thanks and glad to hear that!!
I visited Museum of the Home in July and absolutely loved it! On my visit not all parts were open so I'm definitely going back again.
Ahh how lovely. It’s definitely worth many visits!
So colourful and unique! Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
This video is beautifully made ❤
Thank you! ☺️
What is that fluorescent neon green paint you are using? It's beautiful!
It’s the Neon yellow Gouache paint from Turner.
So I just had an idea for the cover of my sketchbook. I know a song with a line that goes "I'll see what I see when I see it" to remind myself that I can't do everything at once.
What a fabulous line! 👌🏽
If you published your journals I would buy them. Your work is just so bright and happy. I want to grab my paintbrush! Thank you for sharing. :)
Ahh thank you!! ☺️
You’re very right! USketching while travelling needs reduction to a minimum of your material and ambition. Thanks for sharing. You brighten my day.
Thank you!! I appreciate it! ☺️
PS I love this video. It’s direct simplicity and the wisdom of being ok w some time away on your vacation, as that’s one of the things that drives you and that makes a vacation what it is for you. IN ADDITION TO BEING W YOUR FAMILY! because I think when you have a bit of time to yourself to get those parts of you taken care of, you’re them more present w your family and can devote all of yourself during the times you’re with them, undivided! 👏🏻👏🏻
Yesss that realisation took a while to come.
Maybe it’s just me but having a sketchbook has made me way over focus on all the details I used to overlook. Like your sand, falling from your hands, I cannot go anywhere now and see just the largest details, the focal points. I can’t unsee the feathers and insects, the tree bark and the fading paint on old vehicles. I can’t miss the old layers of paint on parking lots and street corners. I hear birds and sirens and shop doors opening and closing. I feel the sunshine as it fades on winter days and summer days alike. And I smell vanilla and cinnamon, horses, soil and barnwood. I smell the creosote of Al all the railroad tracks and imagine the old rail cars being moved around by the up and down motion of arms and backs in olden days of laying track across the countryside. Nothing is ever going to be the same. Memories involve all the senses and it takes more time to travel than it ever used to. ❤️🦋
So so true!! I love everything about this. Having a sketchbook gives us an extra pair of eyes.
Waiting for the next drop
Ahh yess! Soon hopefully! 🤞🏽
Love your style!

Inspiring, vibrant and fun!

Wow! Amazing editing & narration. Thank you. You’ve inspired me. 😊
Thank you! I really appreciate it! 🫶🏽
Loved your commentary with it!

I love this so much! I, too, struggle to find time to sketch but I like the idea of making it a "vacation within a vacation." I'm going to do this!
🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
What a cute idea!! Will definitely do this when I start the next one
Fab!! Please tag me on IG as I’d love to see what you create! 👍🏽☺️
I’ve brought my art supplies on so many trips and so many times just brought them back home without using them. Seeing you having kids and making it happen helps me see that it is possible. I will find my holiday within the holiday next time. I love your work!
Ahh thank you. Trust me, I’ve done that a lot of times too. I just feel it’s ok not to draw if we don’t get the chance. We sometimes put too much pressure on ourselves and the trip. Glad the video gave you some ideas. ☺️🫶🏽
I just recently used some birthday money to buy myself a primary color gouache set!! I'm so excited to try and use it for an art piece. Thank you for making this video, i learned a lot about how versatile this medium really is. I hope my attempts go well. ^^ ❤️
Ahh happy birthday! I hope you enjoy gouache as much as I do. Glad the video helped! ☺️
the photography of your video is extraordinary, and clearly what you say resonates with me as perfectionism, ans letting go of it. Your art is beautiful, I will be watching all of your videos. I have a question : I bought some art supplies, I’m all set to start a sketchbook, I’ve been for at least a month. I’m a creative person, but not a artist. I’m blocked and can’t seem to be able to start. I’m afraid I won’t like what will come out of it, that I won’t find it beautiful. What should I do to get unstuck? Thank you so much for you input. geneviève
Ahh thanks for your lovely message. I can totally relate to getting stuck and not knowing how to start. I’ve made a video of how I trick myself into starting a new sketchbook. Have a look at that. Also I usually keep a board on Pinterest with ideas of what I might want to draw if I am not feeling inspired. Or why not go on a drawing date to a cafe and people watch and draw. You can do it on your own or with a fellow artist. Summer is a great time for that. And finally if you are interested in drawing people why not try a life drawing class. Find one near you or there are loads online that you can join. I hope this helps.
I love the way you curate your videos, the editing and how you capture footage and weave in your artwork is incredible. Look forward to your future videos ❤
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
This is such a wonderful idea and something that I’m going to do whenever I start a new sketchbook. I just uploaded a short showing my first attempt and I’ve included that I got the idea from your lovely channel. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video and my idea. And thanks for sharing and spreading the word.
I appreciate all your thoughts and I am thankful to youtube to suggest this beautiful video before my trip to abroad. Thank you 🩷
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
This was such an inspiring video to watch, it actually made me tear up a little! I loved listening to your journey and what you discovered about your art style and what makes you happy. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. :)
Awww thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.
What type of gouache is it in the round pans?
They are Holbein pan traditional gouache. But I think they are called Opaque watercolours on the packaging.
I loved this video and completely get what you are saying. I spent so long thinking that my sketchbook needed to be perfect that it stopped me creating. Now I just use it and what I create, it what I create. I can refine and assess later, the important part is to just get on with it.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
I instantly followed you when the video ended! ❤ Your artwork is beautiful and the videography was cinematic. I am leaving feeling very inspired and somewhat nostalgic 🌟 thanks for sharing
Awww thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Good work thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot! ☺️
Because of you ❤❤ you convince me to try gouache
Awww and did you like it??
@@parularora im used to watercolor i need to practice
Ahh it is quite different from watercolours. I’m sure you’ll enjoy and find a way to use it your work. ☺️
Lovely video and great advice! I have never documented my trips in my sketchbook before. I only wished to, and didn't know where to begin, and I was intimidated by the commitment. So instead, I'd just travel as usual and return to drawing when my trip was over. I will be travelling again soon and I really wish to start my first ever travel sketchbook and feeling uneasy, this video has given me a new perspective and now I'm very excited!
Awww it’s never too late to start. I’m glad this video gave you ideas of how you could incorporate your art with your travels. Have a fab time!
Just came across you on tiktok and saw you have youtube, immediately came over to see what long play info you have on gouache! Already surprised to hear I could buy gouache sticks! ❤️ 😊
Brilliant! Glad you found it helpful! ☺️🙌🏽
I’ve only just recently discovered you & subscribed! I’m enjoying going through all your videos - you have a lovely calming manner about you & I LOVE seeing your cheerfully quirky & colorful pieces of art! I wish I could do this… 😻🎨🙌🏼🖼️🩷💚🩵🧡
Awww thanks a lot and I’m glad you have enjoyed my videos. ☺️🫶🏽
I absolutely LOVED your quirky rendition/painting of the museum chair, especially with the use of those pops of neon orange coloured paint!! 😻🎨🤩🩷🪑🧡
Aww thanks a lot. It’s fun to reinterpret things in your own pov. ☺️
Thats how i feel about acrylic gouache ❤. I just love the opacity but also that i can layer without mixing and blending other layers❤
I totally agree! What a great and underrated art material.
I found your channel last week and binge watched it. Your videos are lovely! I hope you make more. 🩷
Awww thank you. I have a few work commitments that I need to wrap up and then it’s back to making a lot of new videos. I have so many videos in the making. I can’t wait to share them with everyone. ☺️
@@parularora Lovely! Look forward to seeing them. 🙂
Your whimsical style is adorable! 🩷🩵💛💚
Ahh thanks a lot!
I love everything about your channel and you =D Why it is so long you did a video? will you go on? I binge watched them all yet ^^<3 thank you
Aww thank you for your kind words and I really glad to hear that you have been enjoying my videos. I am definitely going to be making more. A few shows / other work commitments means that the videos had to take a back seat. But I’ll be sharing more soon. Thanks
Great advice!
Glad it was helpful! ☺️
Please publish your sketchbook!
Awww hahaha thanks! I guess at some point I’d like to publish a compilation of my sketchbooks. ☺️

Amazing talent! Thank you for the inspiration 😍
Thanks! I am glad you liked it. 🫶🏽🫶🏽
im obsessssed with this!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
Beautiful video and artwork inside the sketchbook. I love the neon red color. Which brand and color is that?
Thanks a lot. I use a few different neon brands. For gouache it’s Holbein and Turner. For Japanese gansai it’s Choosing Keeping.
Beautiful...your video editing skills are amazing as well. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks so much 😊
What is the name of the paint set you show with the round pans? Is it gouache? You don’t list it in the description of paint used. I’m always looking for a set of gouache in pans I don’t want to carry tubes. Thanks
Yes they are pan gouache. They are Holbein and are called opaque watercolours. The reason why I haven’t listed it is because I bought mine from a seller on eBay from Japan as they aren’t available in the UK. There are also Carandache pan gouache that are more easily available but the pigment quality of Holbein ones are much better.
Thank you for this video. I’ve realized tonight that gouache is my medium. I like to use it loose and with a lot of water. I have limited belief about gouache. Like real artist only paint big, on canvas, and with acrylic. Thanks to your video, I realized I am an artist too. Even if gouache is my medium ❤
Ahhh I wouldn’t diss gouache like that. It can stand against any medium and shine through. I do agree it’s a very underrated medium but people are really warming up to it. I am glad you enjoyed the video!!
Thank you! You make the most relaxing, inspiring, informative videos!
