Wet Willie played my company picnic in Mandeville, Louisiana back in 92` I met the singer Jimmy Hall then and then again five years later, backstage at Tipitina`s in New Orleans.
One of my all time favorites, Jimmy Hall is amazing. They are a southern band out of I believe Tallahassee Florida. Check out their song Street Corner Serenade and also One Track Mind both great songs.
I live in the UK ..i watch you when i go to bed in the evening . I am an older lady but i do enjoy ..i think you as a couple are wonderful...keep it up ! Love from the U K.xc
Underrated Southern Band, glad you enjoyed them. Later in t he 70s they had 2 hits you might wanna give a listen to:'Street Corner Serenade' and 'Weekend' both are upbeat and you will enjoy them.
Wet Willie's "Keep On Smilin" peaked @ #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. It was their 1st charted Hot 100 single (8 total between1974 - 1979) and their biggest hit.
Great band! Saw them with the Allman Brothers and the Marshall Tucker Band in New Orleans in the late 70’s. They stole the show. Try another of their tunes … Everything That ‘Cha Do is my personal favorite
Wet Willy toured with Grand Funk in the mid 70s and even performed with them on the song 'The Locomotion. 'The female singers were known as the 'Willettes.'
I'm thinking I'm thinking that's a Oprah Winfrey. Oprah winfrey does a good job singing that song oprah anyway, if she's got big boobs, big, beautiful bounce, and boobies
Wet Willie sometimes opened for the Allman Bros Band. Duane Allman says, on one concert cd, "Wet Willie spit some chewing gum.." on the stage. Great tune. Get ready for that chorus. Yes indeed. Harmonica. Go! Well! Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
OMG!! You’ve played my A-Number One favorite song of all time! From my favorite band of all time, Wet Willie. Wet Willie formed in Mobile, Alabama in 1969 by brothers Jack & Jimmy Hall, they originally called their band FOX, but in 1970 when they went to record their debut album there was another band with that name, so they changed it to Wet Willie because Jimmy thought it sounded “Soulful”. In 1974 they recorded their biggest hit “Keep on smilin’”. Jimmy plays the soulful harmonica solo on that song. Jimmy still records today, he just finished recording some songs with the band Blackberry Smoke.
Another great band from Alabama that was a staple in the 70’s! We were so fortunate to grow up when we did and being from Alabama I can appreciate all the great music musicians from my state put out there and continues to put out….love y’all and “keep on smiling” 😉❤
I know what you mean Lisa. Every now and then I'll hear a tune and it's like, you're going back in time. You know what kiddo, we grew up in a time of some really great music. We were lucky indeed.
I got spoiled with this song. Jimmy Hall lives in my area and use to play at the Bluebird Cafe regularly. Any time I learned Jimmy was going to be at Bluebird, I went. Of course, he always ended with this song, because by the time it was over we were all standing on our chairs (some on the tables) singing with him. It was always a party. Great memories. Don't know if he still plays Bluebird, because I am just too darn old to get over there!
I think 99.8 percent that I was the first to recommend this because I knew it would hit you strait in the head and heart....They are from Mobile, Alabama. I saw them one time live and they were over the top great.. Lucy Was In Trouble She's My Lady Dixie Rock Poor Judge of Character are some of the best funk low down trippin' songs you should hear by Wet Willie
Big hit from the Summer of 1974. They were part of the Southern Rock movement. Some of their music has the Southern Rock groove but they also had a more R&B/Soul side than most Southern Rock bands. They even had Disco hit called "Weekend".
You young folks don’t know what you missed. The 1970 era had so many great bands. The front mam for Wet Willie is Jimmy Hall. He also plays a mean harmonica and saxophone.
😁😁😁😁. Love this tune. "Weekend" & Street Corner Serenade" are also good. Jimmy Hall Lead Singer is from Mobile, Alabama so you guessed right about Southern Rock feel.
If you want to expand the repertoire you could do the lead singer Jimmy Hall with Blackberry Smoke doing this song (Grits ain’t groceries) from the Capricorn Studios a few years ago. An amazing rendition - it is fire!!!!
First time hearing this. All I knew of them up until now was "Weekend," a dance hit by them from the late 70s. At least the disco station(s) in NYC at the time played it.
Besides Wet Willie, there is the Randall Bramblett Band, Tommy Talton, Eric Quincy Tate, The Dixie Dreggs, Grinderswitch, Sea Level, who is an off shoot band of the Allman Brothers. You should check out all of these bands. And Wet Willie is still playing today.
I can't remember the last time I heard music from the 70's that I had never heard before. I was born in '66 and have 4 older siblings and have been a music lover since I was 4 or5, but I've never heard of this band, nor this song. It was not bad. I looked them up and found that they only had 3 top forty hits, and I didn't recognize the other two songs either! Very cool, something new to hear!
Wow, I can't believe you are doing this song. I just did a quick video of my dad getting visitors on one day where he's in the hospital with terminal cancer. It's the course that came up smiling through the pain that got me and was glad I recorded that moment when everyone was talking to each other and dad enjoyed it.....every minute. We don't know how long we will have him for but I still have him to say I love you to ❤ Keep on doing the great things that you do. Here from the start !!!!🎵🎶💜✌🇨🇦
Glad you and he could have that moment I am in the same situation but they're still assessing the situation for a time frame. So I like to say I'm like a jug of milk I have an expiration date I just don't know when mine is yet😅.
Country Side of Life and Leona are a must. I saw this band numerous times during the 70s. Jimmy Hall still can get it with the best of them. Alabama roots and it shows.
Back in the 70's we used to have concerts known as the "Derby Eve Jam" which took place the Friday night before the Kentucky Derby here in Louisville. The 1975 DEJ had a line up that was pure Southern Rock, with Wet Willie, The Marshall Tucker Band, and The Charlie Daniels Band. I instantly became a Wet Willie fan, and have followed Jimmy Hall's career throughout the years. The vocalist, harmonica player is still performing and going strong. Catch him if you can. If you're interested in further exploration of their catalog, "Grits Ain't Groceries" was always a favorite of mine.
The Lead singer and harmonica player, for Wet Willie is Jimmie Hall. He is an absolute road warrior and does various blues festivals all over the country. He is the main vocalist on some of Jeff Becks albums, even earning a Grammy nomination in 1985 and doing vocals on Jeff's live album in '17. Guy is super down to earth and a whole lot of fun.
You guys are really going to love digging into some Wet Willie. But I really wish you guys would dig deeper into the Marshall Tucker Band. They have an amazing mix of blues, jazz, country and rock. And plenty of flute, saxophone and other amazing instrumentation and vocals. I think you guys are really going to love them. A good start would be In My Own Way.
If you watch Young Sheldon, there’s a scene where George and Brenda are talking in the bar and realise they were both at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Dallas in 1976. George comments that Nazareth opened. But that was a research error on the part of the show writers. The opening act for Skynyrd in Dallas in 1976 was Wet Willie!
I got the privilege of playing in a band with this the original drummer Lewis Ross in the early eighties. Great and loud drummer! I also went to school with Jimmy's brother Travis Hall. Great family!
In spite of all of the craziness, the 1970's was a great time to be young. The vast variety of great music was a large part of it. It's so sad over the years the music industry seems to have lost it's soul.
Great Analysis Again! Wet Willie was a Pretty big Southern Rock Band from the 70’s! I saw them live at The Whiskey a Go-ago in Hollywood back about ‘78, they were a Fantastic Live Band!! Their lead singer Jimmy Hall, now in his 70’s just released a new album, with a Fun Video Jumpin’ for Joy, that is really good! I would also recommend checking out the Wet Willie Classics, Weekend, and their Live Version of Street Corner Serenade. You Will Love! GUARANTEED!!
You guys really need to watch some of their live stuff...Jimmy Hall plays the sax and harmonicas... try "walking by myself" "Street corner serenade" live will knock your socks off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jimmy is still going now a days...just as strong as ever.
I live in the same community as Jimmy Hall, who fronted Wet Willy and I think may have written this song, but anyway, he used to be a regular at the Bluebird in Nashville, which is famous now, but it wasn't back then. But, Jimmy would come and he always finished with this song. Now, you have to understand, at the Bluebird you're not allowed to talk. You have to sit quietly at your table because it is a performer's venue and no one talks while the performer is sharing his or her art. But it was always too much when Jimmy Hall was there. Every time when he got to the part where he sings "you just hanging out at a local bar and you're wondering who the hell you are…" people would jump on their chairs and raise their fists and LOUDLY sing that with him. You just can't let that go by. That is a definite audience participation bridge! And I never saw the management once tell us all to sit down, and Jimmy seemed to thrive on it. It was the early 80s and it was tremendous fun!
You all do my heart so much good because I know you get into the music like so many of us do. I love the way you appreciate even the subtle changes in voice and instrument. I am 68 years old and came out of these mid 70s giants of song that made such memories in my mind. It blows my mind sometimes. This was certainly one of those songs. Among many others!
You've gotta give "Everything That ‘Cha Do (Will Come Back To You)", "Country Side Of Life" and "Leona" and especially, "Grits Ain't Groceries" a listen. You will go crazy. Love what y'all do, keep up the hard work.
i lived in laurel, ms as a teen in the '70s and we would often hitchhike to hattisburg, ms to sneak into the clubs and listen to the music. lucky enough to have seen these guys at that time. such a great time to be young and alive.
Wet Willie Soul Sister is great too off the same album, very funky! I know the lead singer Jimmy Hall, they,re from Mobile Alabama! I first saw them in 74, great show! And other times through the Year,s!
What a great memory! Good choice. This fun group was from Mobile, Alabama. This song was one of their two big hits; the other was "Weekends," about four years later. My other favorite track by them is "Everything That Cha Do (Will Come Back To You)." The lead singer, Jimmy Hall, also had a cool minor hit in 1979, "I'm Happy That Love Has Found You."
This has always been one of my favorite songs! Love it! Also Street Corner Serenade is a good one by them! Also a big request and I know you guys will love it another 70s great it`s called The Rapper-The Jaggerz..please do this song I have never seen it reacted to.
This is my go to song, when you roll down the windows, turn the music up!! Watch your speed, cause you'll be pushing on that pedal!! Seen them in concert back in 1976. . Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Made this old southern hippy girl so happy!! 😊
This ain't no soft rock...THIS IS SOUTHERN ROCK!
Wet Willie played my company picnic in Mandeville, Louisiana back in 92` I met the singer Jimmy Hall then and then again five years later, backstage at Tipitina`s in New Orleans.
Wet Willie "Street Corner Serenade"..A MUST HEAR!!
That was their other hit. Solid tune.
@@vincentschmitt7597 True,, Also around the time of Poco,, which no one seems to remember/suggest.
SOUNDS ALOT like Van mOrrison
70's Hippy music! I absolutely love it then and now! We grew up with great music
Saw these guys open for Grand Funk. Jimmy Hall is one of the most underrated vocalists of the era. When they played this song Live, it was magic.
That’s when I saw them too!! ❤❤❤
I saw them open for Grand Funk as well. They were so loud I couldn’t believe it. They were louder than Grand Funk. But Man, he can sing!
A awesome group I remember in 1974, when I was 8🙂
One of my all time favorites, Jimmy Hall is amazing. They are a southern band out of I believe Tallahassee Florida. Check out their song Street Corner Serenade and also One Track Mind both great songs.

Street Corner Serenade is a must!!!!
Three of my favorite songs from my childhood in the 70s! I'm also a Georgia native, so there's that.
Yelp great songs!
-underrated is so overused !-
Drippin wet is one of the best live albums out there
"Country Side of Life" is another great one by Wet Willie!
Jimmy Hall, the lead singer here, sang on Blackberry Smoke's cover of this. It's well worth checking out.
Love BBS
I like Jimmy’s voice on the BBS version better. Great version
Wet Willie's "Keep On Smilin" peaked @ #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. It was their 1st charted Hot 100 single (8 total between1974 - 1979) and their biggest hit.
It was pretty mainstream. I heard it on our local station in Pennsylvania
Jimmy Hall. Soulful singer and one of the best harmonica players EVER! Next should be "Grits ain't Groceries."
I saw wet willie twice, once with the Allman Brothers, and once with the Outlaws and Charley Daniels
That song is what the world needs to do!!
I grew up in the UK and hadn’t heard this track before, but I loved the sound and the message, we still need the message today for sure. ✌️
I'm thinking I'm thinking that's a Oprah Winfrey. Oprah winfrey does a good job singing that song oprah anyway, if she's got big boobs, big, beautiful bounce, and boobies
I'm thinking I don't know, but anyway😅😅😅😅
That is so funny because for years I thought it was Van Morrison.
When I saw that dude come out with two belts full of harmonicas, I knew.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very well said Amber! Forgot about this song, thanks for doing it! Very positive vibe song. Good ole’70’s does it once again!
Thank you.

That song just never gets old, so good. And the vocals from Jimmy Hall. Another great southern rock band from the 70's. Great song.
Love this song! Haven’t heard for decades!! I remember loving this tune when it came out during my high school years in mid 70’s 😁😉👍
One of the best soulful songs ever! Love the drop in the 2nd half of the song. Gets me every time!

I know what you mean Lisa. Every now and then I'll hear a tune and it's like, you're going back in time.

Really an upbeat, hopeful song by this classic southern rock band. Thanks for your reaction.
Good music ol' wet Willie!

They recently redid this with Blackberry Smoke and is incredible!
Saw 'em in '72 free concert at City Park in New Orleans.
There's a great live video of this song with Blackberry Smoke backing.

Always loved this song! Southern Rock at it's finest.
"Your woman's playing games, and then she says that you're to blame". Yep! True that.
My first real concert, saw them open for Bob Seger and BTO on Sept. 21, 1974 when I was 18.
Next Wet Willie song should be “Shame Shame Shame”
Jimmy Hall really goes off on the harmonica
Charlie Daniels said, Jimmy Hall has more Soul in his little pinky, than most people have in their whole body.
Such a great 70's classic.
I saw Wet Willie in the mid 70's when they opened for the Grand Funk Railroad. What a concert! When I saw them, this song had just hit the radio.
I've been loving this song forever ! The song is great and the lyrics fairly powerful too !
I haven’t heard this song in probably 45 years. Thanks for reminding us
This was was my friend Dave’s favorite band. Brings back memories of him.

There is a “live” studio version of this with the singer of Wet Willie backed by Blackberry Smoke. It’s fantastic
