Awesome dude very helpful I’m on my second attempt I got lucky I used waaay to much thread lock last time I had the transmission apart lol little bit of heat went a long way though
Excellent video! Waiting for my xl to arrive, I'll be addressing this right away. Trans would not last long as it came, the #1 complaint I've seen- 3 speed troubles. For the price I would have thought a few seconds with a handful of shims at assembly would solve so many complaints. Why should average weekend rc'er have to learn to do what the factory won't.
Super helpful video! Just got a new xl 5.9, unfortunately the gearbox is already dead. Ordered a FLM gearset, just one question; what size shims do I need? Thanks!
What shims do you use for the transmission, I cannot find any info online on what shims to use. Also my factory 2 speed trans has insane binding, like gears are wayyy to close to each other and not sure how to fix l, another thing I can’t find anywhere online about. Thanks!
I would have to measure the shafts on the trans, I’m not sure of the size… I just had some shims kicken around the shop. As far as the binding on the 2 speed, check online for exploded view of the transmission and make sure yours is put together the same way… then if you had to shim it from there you can always add some to reduce play in the shafts… hope this helps man ! Thanks for stopping by the channel 💀💨
@@rclife420I’ve went through the exploded view and everything is how is should be, I have another 2 speed I took apart to compare but again I’m lost cause everything is identical, even the other speed has slop in the gears but rotates freely, I’ve been swapping parts back and forth trying to figure it out but no matter what if any of the gears that’s in the messed up trans is in the good one the mesh is installed horrible and binds. I noticed though too the good trans I have is much older and the metal is different type. I’ll try some shims but I feel like this trans is just screwed
@@rclife420no not that size but the face of the shim, some have a very large face that would cover the entire bearing and others are super thin that would only cover the inner bearing circle.
Did yours shift all 3 gears after shimming? I noticed ppl shim in different areas in cluster, does it matter where shim goes, or just as long as play gets eliminated then all is good?

Glad I could help dude ! I’m sorry I actually don’t know the size at the moment, basically anything that fits over those screws should be good. 💀💨
why do the gears have too much mesh when factory gears dont? slight variation in teeth used with the flm gears?
I think they’re a bit bigger… for some reason they don’t mesh properly without shimming
@@rclife420 if the same amount of teeth that would be an easy fix, a shame they didn't fix that.
Not sure man sure stumped me when I got them

@@rclife420also does the shim width matter, and not the inner i just mean how fat or skinny it is from the front (not the side ex, .1 or .2)
Yes the thickness of the shim matters, otherwise you can shim it too much.

I haven’t tested it out yet, I will for sure make a video of the first run !
