Sharing a little vlog of my trip to Guangzhou at the end of December! This is my first time in China and I was really blown away by how well-developed the city is. It is also nothing like what some would warn me about China (i.e. doorless toilet cubicles, pushy & rowdy crowds, poor security). I would go as far as to say that it’s actually on par with SG!
Also, GZ folks are so kind and friendly???🫶🏼 Unknowingly dropped my phone once & a stranger quickly alerted me to it.
Anyways, hope you enjoy this looooong vlog. It took me 20-30h to complete it omaigad 😭

Oh I usually use Alipay and WeChat. Any amounts more than 200yuan incurs additional 3% fee 😭😭😭 some malls accept international credit cards, but most don’t

Always been wanting to visit Guangzhou. One reason is that I'm Cantonese, another is my grandfather was from there...oh and the food! It is also my father's wish to visit the place again...
My one and only visit to China before covid happened was to Shanghai and Hangzhou. That time we still use cash a lot, but now it seems like everything is e-wallet base and we have to somehow link to our credit card...which I find rather troublesome. Credit card means you lose a bit through transfer rate and bank charges.
Yeah unfortunately it’s mostly e-wallet now!
I’ll be back in GZ later this year bringing mom and sister’s family, and I’m looking for restaurant ideas. Why can’t Google maps find most of the places you went to? I can’t find Chao Mi Guo or 十八道江湾店. They looked good! Any help is appreciated. (I was able to find Wan Nian.)

Hi! Thanks much for watching the vlog 🫶🏼 Google Maps is no good for China. Download 高德地图 (gaode maps)! Friendly interface, much easier to navigate than the popular Baidu maps 🙂
Great video but it’s incredibly difficult to locate most of these places to try and visit them myself on an upcoming trip 😢

Is it hard for tourists to get around the city especially if you don’t speak the language?
If you’re taking Didi throughout, app is in English so it should be fine. Many of the restos and cafes also have menu in English
I talked to the taxi driver in Cantonese but I didn't realized they only speak mandarin? That was a bummer!
Do I need international mobile plans or can I buy sim card at the airport ?
My personal preference is to buy eSIM before arriving in China, but yes u can buy SIM card at airport too

Thanks for bringing me to this town, I live in HK and frequently travelled there 30 years ago. So much have changed. Taikoo Hui is owned by a HK / British developer Taikoo. Li Ning was a Olypmic gold medal gymnast, now a listed blue chip sports wear brand. Its gaudy though. Men Wah is a HK chain cha-chen-ten (casual resto). Very good food in HK. Stay away from cake bread spaghetti in China.
Thanks for sharing! I spotted many HK chains in GZ, like pacific coffee! You’re actually right about bread and cakes in china. Haven’t had any good ones LOL
Finally no bee hoon and macdonalds. But seems like u got a whole lot better food in gz. The pasta doesn't even look appealing. Looks like microwaved and served.
