It was the first movie/special after Vince Guaraldi's death, so they had to get new music composers, so they went with a more jaunty, upbeat 70s soundtrack
Seeing Charlie Brown grow a backbone in Race for your life, Charlie Brown when he stood up to Peppermint Patty was one of my favorite movie moments ever!!!
He also develops an spine in he's a bully Charlie Brown where he stands up to bully Joe after being trained in playing marbles by the legendary Snoopy alter-ego Joe Cool

Snoopy Come Home is my favorite Peanuts movie! However I'd like to point out that Snoopy only meant to stay with Lila until she is released from the hospital. He never planned to stay with her permanently. It was Lila who suggested that idea and Snoopy feeling sorry for her decided to go live with her. The only reason he returned to Charlie Brown was because of the "No Dogs" rule at her apartment.
@kennywohl1061 There were some differences between the story of how Lila got Snoopy in Snoopy Come Home and Snoopy's Family Reunion. In the movie Lila had to return Snoopy because her family was moving to an apartment. In the special Lila was already living in the apartment when her landlord told her about the "No Dogs" policy.
I never knew about the name change!!!! I have seen a couple of the movies but now I wanna go back through my dad's book he "borrowed" from his school library and visit those memories lol
snoopy was actually sort of a jerk in snoopy come home. Literally the opening credits, not even a minute into the film, he just flat out kicks Charlie Brown in the ass for laughs. Also, he bullies Linus for existing, and by giving up the collar Charlie Brown had worked so hard to earn for him, he just takes it off and gives it back to him, showing he doesn't give two shits about how Charlie Brown works to take care of him.
Part of what makes "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" hands above the other Peanuts movies, IMHO, is the fact that this is the only movie (until the 2015 "Peanuts Movie") to feature Vince Guaraldi's familiar jazz score from the 1960s TV specials. Guaraldi wasn't offered to score "Snoopy, Come Home" because the studio wanted bigger name songwriters for the second movie, so they went with the Sherman Brothers, who had already scored many Disney films such as "Mary Poppins." Sadly, Vince Guaraldi passed away in 1976; otherwise, I believe he would have contributed to the soundtrack of "Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown" in 1977.
Really good video! I’m in my 50’s, a lifelong fan of Peanuts. I’ve always felt Charlie Brown was the one character I could relate to. Like him, life has kicked me around, but also like Charlie Brown, I remain an eternal optimist. He never stops trying. Only an optimist would continually try to “kick that football” when life keeps pulling it away at the last second. May God bless A Boy Named Charlie Brown.
-There's nothing wrong with being a house wife. NOTHING. Too many people denegrate people that choose this sort of life nowadays. It's not good for society, it's a big reason why we are all below replacement rates for the population. -The conversation between Charlie and Little Red Head is easily my favourite moment in Penuts. "I don't see a failure at all, you have all the qualities that I admire." Just... that scene nailed it. So incredibly rewarding. It's a moment I never thought I'd ever get to see. The story is nothing all that new, but for Charlie Brown? Never would I have ever thought that all his efforts to get liked by her, of all people, would work out so well. Yes, it did happen before in a special, but... it's really not the same thing at all. -I put the scene with Red highly above the spelling bee victory, because the latter was less sincere. I mean, yes, he earned that, but I think they were also cheering him not just for winning in the school but in expectation that he would win in nationals. Their respect for him was qualified, as was shown by them abandoning their admeration after he lost, even though he still did amazingly well. The difference is that Red saw him as a worthwhile person, while the spelling bee cheering only liked him as long as he was a winner.
Snoopy Come Home was my earliest memory of the Peanuts franchise; we had it on 'Taped off a TV airing' VHS tape. Somehow, little tiny me watched it repeatedly without grasping just how sad a lot of it was.
The Peanuts Movie was pretty good and I felt it did do an excellent job at capturing the spirit of the comic strip. The kids all felt like the way they were portrayed in the comics.
My opinions on peanuts Comic strips, specials and movie: Phenomenal Peanut legumes: hate them except for the roasted ones, those are good Peanut butter: Creamy good Crunchy bad Peanut butter cookies: delicious and goes well with chocolate
I agree with this list, but I would probably put Peanuts Movie at the top, as it managed to keep the spirit of the original without compromising too much to modern animated movie tropes. A Boy Named Charlie Brown, while great, did have a lot of filler. Stuff like Schroder playing Sonata Pathetique with trippy visuals and Snoopy ice skating didn't really progress the story much.
I grew up on Charlie Brown. I had a lot of his movies and specials on VHS tapes. I will always have a fondness of “It’s an Adventure, Charlie Brown” and “A Boy Named Charlie Brown”. But I can also see why people might rip Into the latter. I can see how some parts of it just lagged. Enjoyable as it was to see and hear, Schroeder’s piano sonata could’ve been considered a real drag and pace-killer.
Could you possibly do the two Sesame Street theatrical movies ranking both Follow The Bird (1985), and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouch land (1999)? Big beg on that please?
Sure: 2. Elmo in Grouchland-lame movie, not much sentimental value, Elmo's an annoying jerk, but the villain is pretty fun. 1. Follow That Bird- sweet movie, a lot of emotional scenes, great moral about how family is more than just sharing blood and species, and a cameo by Chevy Chase. There you go.
Any thoughts on how Snoopy Come Home ends? It’s the scene where after Snoopy’s reunion with the gang, he demanded to have his stuff returned and that made the kids mad. I always get confused with that scene because normally you would see happy endings in these kind of movies but it felt like a tonal whiplash after the kids and background chorus sing the reprise of Best of Buddies during Snoopy’s reunion. What was the point of that scene?
Race for your life is awesome. A Boy Named Charlie Brown is meh. It's too stretched out. It would have been fine if it was 30 minutes. It did have some funny moments.
@@almareginainfante5233 There was that episode where Charlie Brown was invisible and he kicked the football from Lucy several times! My favorite was when he taunted her while doing so!
I disagree with the ranking. I would put Race for your life, Charlie Brown, at the top and put every other movie down a notch. While Snoopy Come Home is depressing, I thought Bon Voyage wasn't good. It was ok, but it was meh.
Snoopy Come Home is def last place. Not even close. Snoopy was being a piece of crap to the gang so why are you acting like they were unjustified. Snoopy literally kicks Charlie in the opening for NO reason.
Hot Take: Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown is the best piece of Peanuts media to ever exist because it has the best theme song.
