  • Join me as I spend the afternoon with mum in her art/craft room. Mum is a serial art and crafter.... You should go find her on Instagram @vickibusybee.
In this video, we look at the quilt blocks mum has already made for the scrappy colour-wash quilt that we are both going to make. We also get to see her progress on her rockpool embroidery - so amazing you have to see it! - it's at 21:48 in the video.
Scrappy quilt idea from Kate from the @thelasthomelyhouse . She got the idea from @terryrowland398 . It’s called the Color Wash Quilt Scrap Challenge.

To make a design wall plastic tablecloth are backed with flannel. Since it’s summer they should be easy to find. That’s what I use. Coming from Massachusetts, USA

Great idea! I bet mum already has one in her linen cupboard. 😂 But also easy to buy. We are coming into winter here in Australia but I should be able to get one regardless.

I just happened upon your video, and really enjoyed watching both of you. The timing could not be more perfect for me because our scrap group is doing this very block. I do like the 4” or the 4 1/2” size as well. Thank you ❤

Perfect !! 🤩 That’s so cool you have a scrap group. Are you all making a scrappy quilt? Sharing blocks? Sounds like fun 🤩

@@time-to-sew it is a neat group, we have more in the winter, but now that the warmer weather is here we done have as many. Our group is with the Niagara Modern Quilt Guild and we do it using zoom. It started during Covid. The “leader” selects the idea and this time it is the block you and your mom are doing. We have done log cabins, square in a square, all done in scraps.

I really like your blocks. I’m not one to make small blocks, so I would make mine a lot bigger.

Yep 👍 less blocks to make in total the bigger you make them! 😁😅

Ladies I think you need a new rotary blade, it would make cutting much easier.

What size are you cutting your strip to go around centre? Thanks ladies 😊 yes I think you need a rotary cutter that works heaps easier than scissors 😂

Hello! I’m using 2 inch strips which leaves enough for trimming to a 4 inch block. Mum is using 2 1/2 inch strips I believe as her finished block will be 4 1/2 inch square. ☺️ Oh geez! Don’t get me started on that rotary cutter! 🤣😂 it was a new blade!

You need to change your rotary blade. It is dull.
