  • I have had such a lovely time learning how to make this - what I am calling my ‘Kantha Style’ quilt. I thought it might be made over three videos, but once I started stitching I just couldn’t stop until it was finished! I enjoyed making it so much. It is now on the bed in my cabin and I am thrilled with how it looks. In case you missed the first video in this two part series, I will pop a link to the video below!

Kate brings quilting back to where it belongs. Quilting should be fun, relaxing, and spiritual.

That's what I call a "Kate quilt", a riot of color, controlled chaos, plus a little, "I didn't think about that, but I will solve it. No problem. " ❤❤

Kate I have loved watching your channel through the years. You have taught me so much and most important how to slow and enjoy the time I spend on each project. I love the garden channel also and again I have learned how to slow down in life and enjoy what I do and what I make. Thank you so much for being here in my life.

Such a lovely item of work, so organic in the way it's made. I have been purchasing pre-cut squares from a shop called 'The Nest'. A place where materials and every sort of haberdashery are gifted to this place, which is supported by volunteers from every aspect of the business. A very positive environment. I think I know exactly what I will be making next. Thanks Kate, a very inspirational segment. 😊

I’m very sad to admit that I once came upon a bunch of bent safety pins in a hand me down stash and thought they were worthless. I got rid of them. Fast forward 20 years. I bought 200 bent safety pins for quilt basting because I saw Kate use these funny bent pins. Lessons learned. Enjoy the process. Thank you Kate.😊

It’s like you gave me permission to be outside of the box and to slow down! I enjoy listening to your thought process. I like that you pick things up to work on a bit and then put them down for a while. No rush! The quilt you made for Agnes is a great example of that. I can exhale when I watch you and just enjoy. I’m so glad I found your channel!! Blessings, Kate!

I learned to sew when I was a little girl. My mother would cut up our old nightgowns and make them into a shape she could get evenly, and frequently had to double up the old pieces. I learned to sew a straight line putting those pieces together for "batting" of our outdoor quilts. My mother still has these quilts. After putting the front, middle and backing together, I crawled on the floor pinning. Then, I would sit on the couch, tieing the quilts. During the winter, too cold to play outside, this is what I did. Or, I would embroider pillow cases, dust covers/dresser scarves. Always something to do. My mother's thought was if we had time to sit, we had time to do something constructive. 😊❤

I believe that one of the spin-offs of this approach, was that we developed fine dexterity quite early and it set us up well for years to come. The patience and persistence it fostered were often hard won though. I'm 65 and spent very many hours latch-hooking woolen hearth rugs with my Nana, who also taught me to crochet. Her sister, my great aunt, taught me 'proggy rugs' and knitting. I still have my first 'embroidered' mats (running stitches with laced threads, and cross stitch on coarse aida) because Nan kept them🥰

    • @sharonwilson8208
      @sharonwilson8208 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

@@cassieoz1702 Both of my grandmothers had me help them make rugs. One of them had me braid strips of fabric, then sew them into different shapes. The other used an old toothbrush for a tool. My job on those was to sew the fabric scraps together in a pleasing way. Nothing went to waste. Very fond memories of what today's children would be considered too much work. Both grandmother's grew up with very little, and these were necessary means and important teaching of being frugal, making do with what you have, and not whine about what we don't have. I remember the wonderful colors the rugs would have. Most of my gifts as a child to this day are handmade. I too have my first dresser scarf I embroidered for my grandmother. The colors are still bright, and my stitches are pretty darn good for a 5 year old. Running stitches, french knots, and a few daisy stitches. 🙂❤️

Kate, I just wanted to say thank you for this channel. It's like a lovely warm hug, and it's definitely my favourite corner of the internet. I always pop your videos on when I'm hand stitching things and it's like having a crafty internet mum with me. Reading other people's comments it seems like I'm not the only one that finds your videos warm, gentle and comforting.
You've also taught me to slow down and not worry about how perfect my work is, which is good because my quilting skills are very fresh! Much love from Australia

What a super quilt for your wonderful cabin. I love seeing Eileen the goose again, and she seems so happy to see you, when you go down to your lovely pond. I sooo miss my lovely cabin I had built in the garden of a beautiful thatched cottage I had the privilage of owning for a short time, back about 10 years ago now. I ran out of money, so had to move. They are such special places. xxx

I really enjoyed learning this method, hybridized or not, I think it's fantastic and a great way to upcycle and create an heirloom on the cheap.

Kate, your Kantha 'not' Kantha quilt is beautiful! 💖Brava!!! A good friend of mine calls sewing with an empty bobbin...."making confetti"!🤗

Thanks Kate ❤ for getting me through my first winter of post pandemic blues .. snuggling up with your videos & a cuppa while I went to ground this winter kept me sane. I think the tone of these videos are so on point, the gentle pace with gentle music is just a balm. I covet your cabin, what a joy. I'm desperate to look out of its window when you film in there & see your view .. could you swizzle the camera round for the closing shots so we csn see what you see? Would be the cherry on top, thanks xx

    Hello, Kate!
Thank you for showing part of your garden as you went to your cabin. Your ‘Kantha’ quilt is stunning! It’s the lovely addition to your lovely daybed in your cabin. Everything has come together to make a perfect spot to enjoy a nap. Now I wish that I had room to add a bed to my small gardening shed! It’s hard to know if Eleanor’s greeting is meant to welcome you or scold you for visiting ‘her’ pond. Can you tell, Kate? 😁
    Thank you, and stay well!

Wow! I love the chain piecing technique, that's brilliant! I've been a quilter for decades, always striving for perfection, which I feel is necessary - if I'm going to spend the time & money, I want an heirloom. That being said, I am absolutely in love with the freedom you show, and that all kinds of ideas, styles & methods make just as beautiful & loved of an item.❤🎉

I enjoy your content immensely. Thank you. I've not yet tried Kantha quilting. I can't imagine stitching through all those layers, but I might give it a try sometime.❤

So beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I just restored a vintage quilt for a friend and was amazed no batting was used just cotton and it was heavy. In the US they called them summer quilts, so they would be cool blankets. After working on it I want to make one for myself and after seeing you video I definetly want to make one. Lovely video. ❤❤

Again, greetings from Ontario, Canada on this beautiful May morning. Kate, all the fabrics you work with are so colorful and individual. Each square deserves it's own attention. I find light purple with green a lovely combination. Enjoy that cabin!!

I love your cabin. What a lovely place to others and unwind. I had tickets for a meet and greet with Kaffe and Brandon today. I wasn't able to go due. to illness. Oh well, some other time. However I'll go watch your interview with them again that will cheer me. Thanks for sharing all you do with us. Take care, your you tube friend.
