Wow! Those mountains look so beautiful but cold at the same time. You seem so happy even just walking around town and sharing knowledge with us all. Keeping you in my thoughts on landing an apartment you want!
I was stationed on Kodiak Island in the mid 60's. I arrived there 7 months after the Good Friday earthquake. If my memory serves me correctly, natives call that wind; "The Hawk."
You said it all when you said that this is the happiest you have been! Glad to hear that Shoestring! We got your back! Waiting is the hardest part. Keep on pushing forward. Good things happen to good people and your one of the best! Thanks for update. B Safe.....
Hi Shoestring !😀 I love the fact you enjoy being goofy and light hearted!! Your time lapse was sooooo funny!!! To hear the happy ness in your voice is wonderful!! I know your going to be fine!! Your very good at taking care of yourself!!! Looking forward to next time!!! Bye for now With love Your friend Kathy Washington State
Wow it’s all so beautiful, looks like a painting. Remarkable watching that snow move. Good thing you’re not up on that mountain. 😎.... lol I LOVE bad weather 😁
Mr. Shoestring, I have only recently discovered your wonderful vids ending up on your channel due to falling down the rabbit hole of you tube and my love of watching trains. You are quickly becoming an American Folk Icon in this digital age. You are a traveler in the purest sense, a master storyteller and obviously an 'old soul'. You exude kindheartedness. Godspeed in all your endeavors and may your days be filled with peace.
Hey shoestring! I’ve not seen this video before ! How I’ve managed to miss it I’ll never know ! What a truly beautiful place you were at 👌🏼😃 loved the time lapse too - my sense of humour exactly !! All the best buddy.. Ziggy, Yorkshire, Uk 🇬🇧 👍🏻
Sir Shoestring !!! Thanks for videoing & Sharing the ""ALASKAN "" Experience as have NOT seen snow blow like that since i was a kid back in the day !!! ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!!
Wow! Those mountain videos are amazing. So Beautiful even if the wind is strong enough to blow you off your feet! I'm glad to see you so happy. That time lapse was hilarious 😂.
Imagine flying an ultralite, or even a Cessna up towards the peak of that mountain! Would be a WILD ride, that's for sure! Especially on the lee side. Probably wouldn't be very much fun, LOL. Wow, that was HOWLING! Great zoom shots there - could see the snow getting picked up and blown all over the side of that mountain! Reminds me of being down Cape Cod in the spring, lol - wind city! Only without the stunning views. :)
Welcome to Alaska my friend. Nothing new to you though. Gotta love the powder drifts. Lets us know what little specs we really are. The most I like about that area is the way I feel when in the woods. I'ts almost magical. And you're right about the storms there especially when you're nice and protected. The force of Mother Nature is truly phenomenal.
here in northern nevada the wind's very swirly, you could go to all four sides of the house, and still get it. .my long ammo can stove weighs 25lbs, but that's the size for outdoors, the smaller 50 cal box i put in my hollowed - out camry, the long one in the chevy beauville van by the sliding door. .there are professional grade lightweight ones out there for cheap
I know that feeling you’re talking about when you’re there. It’s almost like your soul is being cleansed. That’s what Nature does, and there is plenty of that in AK. Stay safe, good luck on your decision
Mr. Shoestring ..... so glad you're at a place - both geographically and sentimentally - that appears to bring you so much peace. The place certainly seems to have a much more "open" feel to it than some "flying human sardine can".
What a beautiful place to call home!!! I hope ya hear really soon about when you can move into one of those apartments for your forever home! My thoughts and prayers are riding with you, as always.
That’s pretty neat also. Wow. I never knew I had snow skied in gale force winds. That sure looks something like I’ve skied in before. One day, I was enjoying a nice sunny, winter day snow skiing. Just like that, a storm started working its way in. It wasn’t warm by any measure. But, it wasn’t windy either. So, I made my last trip to the top via the gondola. Just before I got to the top, and maybe 300 feet above this gulch, the gondola was shaking so hard with the wind, that the ride shut down for maybe 5 minutes. Alone in whiteout, howling winds and stuck in a gondola gives you time to think about the wrath of Mother Earth. I eventually made it to the top. I clicked into my bindings and worked my way around the gondola shack to get to the rocky chute of the face of Mammoth Mountain. I wanted to hit it so bad, but I stalled. Second questing my abilities that late in the day (tired muscles), worst ending conditions and lack of visibility, I started thinking of taking another route down. Head along the ridge and drop in the bowl. But, along the ridge, the snow and wind was blowing like in this video, only no blue skies. I got to thinking, I’m tired, can’t see too well, if I fall, ski patrol won’t find me until possibly the next day, if not later. I decided to ride the gondola back down. I guess that’s one of those decisions you make not knowing it was the right choice if you had decided to ski down, but fell, got hurt and wished you rode the gondola down. One of those things you just don’t know.✌️🤙
@@TheHoboShoestring I think that's why they pay people to live in Alaska ? My brother in law and sister lived in anchorage for 15 years , One day you might catch them when they are doing a controlled avalanche. That's always cool to see ! God Bless you Shoestring and please take extra caution in Alaska , I heard that it's very far and in between covid cases there so I think your pretty much safe there ! Glad you got your VACCINE though
@@TheHoboShoestring That's not too bad. Maybe one day if I get a big enough savings as a cushion, and finally set social security. I'm kinda the same way as you are. Don't need 500 acres and a 10 bedroom house to feel content. A small cabin and a pot belly stove is what I dream of. 👍
Absolutely gorgeous. 💕I love how the wind blows the snow off the mountains. You look so happy and I can hear it in your voice as well. Love the time lapse. Always makes me smile seeing you having fun. Be safe, stay warm and don't let the wind blows you away.
Hey Shoestring! Man that wind, wow! That area looks amazing. Thank you for continuing to post your adventures. I LOVE the time lapse antics. It makes me smile and now will look forward to more of them. Almost like watching a Benny Hill montage. Lol. You should put some comical music in the background for the next one! Haha. Take care and looking forward to the next update.
Started watching shoestring and now I find myself looking forward to his videos! Good stuff! 👍 get yourself some Benny Hill music with those time lapse moves and you will have us in stitches! LoL
Wow that place blows. Are you sure you want to live there? Oh yeah, you are the guy who camped in the middle of the wilderness in the Winter up there...one day I will get up there to see it in person. Thank you again for sharing the beautiful scenery! Stay safe and love what you do
Nature is amazing. I’ve always wanted to see Alaska. In about 5 years we are going to be semi full time RV’ers and Alaska is on the top of our list of places to go
Brutal weather. Chilly shake. Beautiful scenery. In the next place you go to wait for a response from Seward, will you be hear any Sealions? Just wandering. I am more than 1 hr but less than 2 from where you lived, & our weather has been up to 60-70s by day, & 40-50s at night. No snow. Wish I could send you some warmer weather.
Yeah Shoe - Bern in one of those mountain squalls - one side is mild and you come around on the trail and it's abloomin whiteout !!! Stay safe & God bless. ❤❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I have the same hand warmers, you can turn them off when needed jest by putting in a ziploc bag they run out of air then, you can take them out later and shake them and their work
North to Alaska go north the rush is on. Big Sam left Seattle in the year of 91 with George Pratt his partner and brother Billy to. For those of you who dont know of the late Johnny Horton check him out on Utube.
Looks nice Mark that wind looks like a nasty situation to be in but fun. Boy I love walkin in high winds myself. There was only one time here in new mexico where the wind was high and it was snowing so bad you couldn't see what was in front of you and yes installed through it to the mail box and back and that's one nice there and back... haha maybe I'm pure Alaskan but lost from home..... or it's just the Coloradan that's in me
Time for some hot cocoa! I hope you’re able to get your apartment of choice! I like your perspective on adventure although nowadays I really don’t want to go through another hurricane!
Hahaha you started talking about wind and my phone just got a wind advisory for the Middle Tanana Valley for gusts up to 35 mph. That will definitely make for seas I wouldn't want to be on!
Landlords using credit checks as a determination is such a flawed system! Once a person has a bit of bad luck they are marked and can't get a nice place to live! One of the reasons there are so many homeless people in the USA today.
You should take that job as a tour guide! Your knowledge is second to none
What stunning beauty!! Our creator is something else!! Stay warm ❤
Wow! Those mountains look so beautiful but cold at the same time. You seem so happy even just walking around town and sharing knowledge with us all. Keeping you in my thoughts on landing an apartment you want!
It's an unconditional happy
They have 2 seasons in Alaska...Winter & July.
That would blow the fuzz off a polar bears butt! Stay safe Mr. Shoestring and put some rocks in your pockets.
Best time-lapse I have ever seen in my entire life. You look incredibly happy. You're an inspiration!
Shoestring I'm glad you found a nice place! Can't wait for more videos, keep them coming.

I could sit and listen to your stories for hours sir. You are the man Shoestring.
Hearing you talk about how happy this makes you has lifted my own spirit quite a bit.

Some of the locals were watching you during the time-lapse. Wonder what they were thinking? You're a real trip, Shoestring.
Probably why they didn’t successfully monetize views and commentary about our interesting land!

The mountain shot starting @2:00 is absolutely beautiful, nature at it's finest

The windy days like this are great for paper airplane action.
I used to get some to zip up over the house about 100 feet and sail away out of sight.
I can really see y anyone would love seeing that every day. Stay safe up there...

Supposed to be colder than a well diggers butt up there. I just saw a forecast for Alaska.
-35F Fairbanks.
Wow! That is amazing. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be on top of those mountains during something like that.
200+mph winds up top measured many times
@@TheHoboShoestring lol you'd be blown right off the mountain.
What a beautiful place. Being from Idaho I can handle the bitter cold, just not the high cost of living up there. Maybe one day😌
Food is around 10% more on average around Anchorage and the valley where I am
