- We have just received an updated blog for the new boss nex. In it we learn about some brand new best in slot rewards that should be coming to oldschool runescape early 2022.
One of the main complaints about the original proosal was the lack of best in slot upgrades. Well today that has all changed. Some rewards from the original blog are now scrapped, some have been changed and we also have some new ones. Today I will be covering the entire blog, as well as giving you my opinion on the changes.

"OSRS thrives because old content is kept as relevant as possible". That is so welcomed. Honestly as a newer player coming from wow (played when I was a kid though)... my god... that philosophy is exactly what I want to hear. New gear is exciting, and I am going for full clear on everything. My goals right now are quest point and achieve capes (203qp and all med dairies done woo!), but hell yeah I want to do raids... all that being said... it is so nice to have older gear and items that actually have real use and strong identity in the game... wow players you know what I'm talking about.... every expac... NO.... every patch is a reset and everything might as well be thrown in the garbage. it sucks. This approach from the osrs devs is the kind of game philosophy that I can appreciate much... much more. Very cool. excited for the buffs. This kind of horizontal progression is not the easy path... powercreep and other issues can happen (things that can be tuned), but at least there is passion and heart behind it. Excited to play with all these toys one day.

That is why I love the dev team of OSRS!
Pretty much all the content is relevant in some capacity which is the greatest strength of osrs compared to mmos in my opinion
Sure, but content that's 8 years old still being BiS is still insane. I get not wanting power creep in typical fashion, where it usually comes every month or so with brand new better items, and quickly makes content obsolete. But 8 years in, you'd expect items from 8 years ago to no longer be BiS. Still be really good? Sure, that's fine. But it gets stale when items come out and their usage is to hit one specific enemy named George but only when he's facing west.

I think this was completely incorrect for Jagex to say. Old content is only still relevant if you're an Ironman. Everyone knows that if you have access to the GE no one will be going to grind out Barrows. They will do something that creates more gold per hour to afford the better end game items.
Remember time when having torva full helm on runescape forum avatar was bigger deal than having party hat.
The way they dealt with bandos breaking down into components to fuel the upgrade is in my opinion the best way of going forward in terms of other tier80 gear they will undoubtedly be introducing. Potentially maybe even revamping some lower tiers to work in similar ways.
It’s how the BiS armour items are made in RS3.
E.G, Torva, a T80 melee armour set has held its value over time because you need to break it down to get parts to smith Trimmed Masterwork, the BiS T92 melee armour.
It’s a pretty good way to keep older content relevant.
It would nice to have some lore stuff as to why torva must be created out of bandos armour. From what I remember from rs3, Zaros and Bandos hardly had any connection, so this could be a way to develop a new interesting story, unique to OldSchool.
Right? Would love for osrs too start delving into that deep god lore and mahjarrat lore, etc
It could be as simple as Torva being triumphant over a bandosian general of sorts, using elements and trinkets from the general as a power move. I mean, they pretty much tied Torva with Zuk in rs3 by being bested by him for Zuk's gladitorial freedom, so I could see Torva as the "1v1 me for glory" sort.

I had torva in a rsps and tried to play osrs since I heard it's coming to got to 80m n lost it to a Christmas cracker bot

After failing miserably the first time and listening to the community? This was the obvious choice from the beginning. I’ve been saying to add torva and make it so you need to attach a bandos piece to create the completed armor. Love the Zaryte update though, totally unexpected

wow these changes are actually pretty good. i think they've pleased the people who want to raise the ceiling of BIS, but also the people who want to keep powercreep under control. Im proud of the OSRS team!

90 smithing to make bandos, but 99 smithing to make rune platbodies lol
They fixed it in ra3 lol. But it does make sense. You are more so upgrading an armor rather creating it from scratch
@@Jackle919 true, still smithing is my least fav skill after firemaking because of how little reward you get levling it.
the reason being is bc back in RuneScape classic rune was the best armor for the longest but jagex just never changed it for whatever reason
@@Jackle919 the mining and smithing rework was really great. although all those high level armours are so useless because you can't augment them and they are tank armor. almost nobody in rs3 uses tank armor

It looks like Jagex hiring a economist was the best decision they've made, I just hope the mechanics of the boss doesn't change from pre eoc. Can't wait for those memories to bounce back 🤣

Nex needs a nerf to come to osrs as we are now. Or it will be very short trips even with a team. But hey maybe thats the point.
@@midianet2 yeah my take is it will be like Phosani's Nightmare difficulty but with teams starting from 5? Generally the most majority with the tablets do 1-2 kill trips because it's so much easier mentally than sweating out and doing 3 kill+ trips consistently. So yeah, 1-2 kill max for Nex kills per trip is most likely fitting.
@@n3onize Without a nerf, Nex will be harder than Phosani's. Those you can still solo it and depending if you're good get 6-9 kills/h which is compared to CG that takes usually 10min a kill without sweating. My only point is that needs a nerf. 6 kc in one hour divided in 4-5 ppl is not fun even if it has bis gear.

Super cool stuff, but the Zaryte bow and vambs were really cool, we need new BiS range gloves and the bow had some really cool uses, just needs a stat buff
I liked the Nex rewards, maybe not for like the supposedly hardest boss, but for some other late game boss

I'm happy jamflex finally listened and made upgradeable stuff in osrs and not just straight up powercreep or dead on arrival items
The rewards are awesome, perfectly done with the item sinks.
The Ancient Godsword should still have a more interesting Special Attack though.
The Torva item split idea should be used with Armadyl & Ancestral for Pernix and Virtus respectively.
Overall awesome update change though, good job JaGex 👏🏼👍🏼👌🏼

The best part to come out of this change is probably that they fixed the problem with power creep by making Bandos essential for Torva@@kealquike8722

I think the fact that jagex hired an economist is an important and big step. Imagine if they hired other specialists for specific areas of content. For example, hiring professional and well known writers to make a quest rather than old Jmods.
This on top of the fact that jagex hired streamers, even though that may not have worked out well, it shows they are really trying to improve. Excited for the future

Goddamnit I really wanted to finally have a good reason to use Shadow and Smoke spells. It sucks that there's basically no reason to use anything but Ice, I really like the smoke and shadow aesthetics and effects. The crossbow is cool though, can't wait to look at it from a distance.
Lolol I just bought my first set of ba dos tassets and chest a couple weeks ago when they crashed. Very lucky
just need a new best in slot cape and range armor set now. this makes me happy.
I hope Zaryte Cbow gets a buff of some kind while wearing the vambraces like the bow did

sir people wear bandos gear because of the little strength bonus it gives.. this new gear gives more strength bonus and alot more defense bonus also. not exactly an ornament kit...

Add Zaryte bolts (e) that have a passive effect of 1.3x damage boost specifically on special attacks and I'd nut.

Crossbow could be new PVP KO weapon. Switch, Spec, Guaranteed Dragonstone Bolt Spec. Bucket of damage against anyone not protecting from Dragonfire.

I think osrs players need to take a moment and thank Jagex for working so hard to minimize power creep. In any other mmo a lot of the older content would be dead or out of the game by now. I think osrs players don't realize how good they have it with this game and how loyal Jagex has been to the many dedicated fans of OS
Unfortunately this is what happens when Redditors with an average combat level of 80 dictate the direction of the game.

Zaros godsword deffo won't be op when multi clans are piling specs on you while you're frozen
To be fair they can already pretty much guarantee kills. It still won’t be as important as mace to them since their main goal is smiting plus ones

If you move away x amount of squares, it won't proc that special attack's bleed.

So glad we're getting new gear that's not just niche. I like how gear in game has a lot of history but there really needs to be new goals for a game this old. in GIM people already have full bandos and it's only been out for like a month. They're handling it well with pseudo invention as well.
Hard disagree. This game has not only been doing well; it's been actively growing since its release.
Evidently, Jagex's strategy has been working very well. Why fix what isn't broken?
@@TheL0rd0fSpace The game has been growing because of content releases. If the game stayed at the state it was when released, no one would play it. No GW, no raids, not even QoL things like the run button being on the minimap were there at release. Content like this will keep it continuing to grow.
There were large periods of time where Jagex just didn't add anything new and the player base plummeted to like 20k
so i no longer have to do quests to get bis helmet, niceeeeee

I am once again asking for you support on a smithing rework. At 90 smithing you can reforge Torva's armor from scraps but you still need 99 smithing to make a rune platebody.

Torva stats are nerfed by roughly 30% around the board.. other than the strength bonus.. and i dislike it.

This is what i wanted to see. They finally understand that while power creep can destroy the game (i.e. chaotics back in the day)... on the other hand balanced BIS items that us the best rewards from old content to create them creates the best of both worlds. Now just take that concept and make a new skill already

If you can just break down bandos items, or just buy the dismantled pieces from the GE. Then smith it yourself, to make the Torva gear. Then its not going to be worth anywhere near 1B. It'll be worth slighty more then what Bandos currently is. Id imagine maybe a similar priceline as the Ancestral Top/Bottom. The only thing that would change would be the price of BCP/Tassets. It would increase in price like it is currently doing atm.
@@Az__T sir you completely miss heard what was said in the video and the blog.... breaking the bandos Armour give you bandosian components which you can use on the "broken torva" armour to fix the "torva armour" which to get you have to get really lucky and get from the new hardest pvm boss in the game. getting the torva Armour drop is going to be really hard similar to getting the inquisitor set from the nightmare boss. however the torva is literally the best Armour in the game now so its value will be like 3x the inquisitors. expect torva platebody to be like 600m for example

@@dankfart rs3's endgame pvm is much more interesting than osrs'. But if you want the true 2007 experience, stick to dragon chainbody, whip, rune boots, rune defender and zerker ring unimbued.
