I hear you on the no turbo. All the dealers say they're better these days and don't have the troubles like they used to. But still everyone I know that has one, except for one person, has had turbo troubles. That one person drives an Audi so maybe they have better turbos. But she's had plenty of other troubles so I've no desire to go the Audi route either.

On the face of it, this is just the car that is needed - but without the entertainment gadgets and so many "safety features", most of which are unnecessary. Let us please have a small, but comfortable car which has long term reliability and is a pleasure to drive!

I drive a 2005 Toyota Highlander , 180,000 miles , runs terrific. Don't need car payments and the added cost that many people don't figure in: the higher insurance . Good night.

Nice, but please do it without 1000 electronics. No driver assistance bs. Just ABS brakes, electric windows (although manually wind up windows would be good as well), two airbags, central locking, engine immobilizer and an alarm. The basics.
And a great radio and speakers for those tunes.

Before I read the details, thought it was a reimage of the Beetle.
Subaru 360 from the late 1960s. This is pretty close to the shape, though the coach roof was taller.
If they put a stick shift in I would definitely drive it.
If it truly is supposed to be a Subaru 360, it should have suicide doors. . .I had one in the 1970's, it was unstoppable, although you couldn't seat anyone in the back seat unless they had no legs.

Those are two different cars in the video. When you see the front the body is flat over the wheel cases (not like a VW Bug) but when you see it from the rear there are covers over the wheels (like it was with the VW). To me the whole thing looks like a bad AI production. Also, it looks like the front hood doesn’t open at all. Is the engine in the rear like the VW Beetle was? Where is the cargo space? I am anything but impressed. It looks totally fake!

Hey AI, you can do better. In this series of renderings there are some boo-boos...
1. The single door mounted rear view mirror is on the opposite side from the driver position. If a vehicle has a single door mounted external mirror (probably not legal for 2025), it is always on the driver's side.
2. Building on error #1, the side views look more like mirror images with the steering wheel, tailpipe, weird fuel filler neck (and improperly placed mirror) switching to opposite sides.
3. Perhaps the rear turn signal and back up lights are incorporated into the single taillight. However, the lens appears to be solid red which is not street legal.
It' a gorgeous design. It's like a cross between a Porsche, a DB7 and a VW Beetle lol. Love it!

This Subaru rendition of a “retro microcar ,” looks a lot like a copy of the Volkswagen Beetle. I doubt that a 2025 Subaru 360 (which I doubt would be sold in the U.S.) would be exactly like the concept car shown in this video. For one, it got those air vent windows that modern cars no longer use, and if there will be a production car it most likely have some differences from the concept one because it would have to comply with specifications according to government regulations. Nevertheless, it looks like a nice car to have, especially in city commute.
I like it better than the retro Fiat. I agree with the comments about keeping it simple and basic and I hope they keep it affordable these could be very popular like old school VW Beetles easy to maintain with cheap replacement parts

The dialog discusses a rumour about the possibility of a new version, but the pictures are of the original 360. There's no way to bring anything to market without front window pillars that meet rollover protection standards, or head restraints, multi-point seatbelts, front/rear bumper impact standards, and a ton of other safety requirements. The pictures do not show those mandatory items.
Just as when FIAT decided to relaunch a 500 model, it only vaguely resembled the original. Same with the Mini, the New Beetle, same with the Dodge Challenger for that matter.
After adding the safety stuff, any new new 360 will be double the original's weight. Plus it will surely be run by a complex Body Control Module connected to everything, unique to that particular serial number like everything else built in the last decade or two, and we all know how that can turn out...

In a mechanics manual for Subaru back in the, 90s, it described the history of Subaru. During WW ii Subaru took the beetle design and changed it to make the Subaru

Back to roots it’s a lovely urban car for a normally drive from A to B. Hopefully without any redundant electrical knick-knacks.

I remember the original Subaru 360. The "360" designated the size of the engine 360 cc or 22 cubic inches. They sold them on abandoned Christmas tree lots or gave them away with really cheezy tract houses. The importer was Malcolm Bricklin, creator of an even worse car, the Bricklin SV-1.

Reminds me of one of my first cars, a basic 1960's VW Beetle. That car was so simple that to tune it up I sat on a stool behind the rear engine and turned the carburetor screw until the radio antenna quit vibrating.

Awesome! I kept bugging my parents to get one of these in the late '60s. I had the brochure for this too. If they can make it run on green gas, they'll have a winner. Plug-in hybrids will also be a popular way to transition for some time to come. It had a little 2-cylinder, air-cooled engine and louvers in the rear hood back then.

First time I’ve ever seen this , first impression, this is what VW should have come up to years ago to replace the original bug. This thing, for my taste, just simply looks right. Utilitarian with a European retro stylish, cool flare. Come to think of it, this is probably what the original bug should have looked like.
