  • In this video, I fished the Fort De Soto bridge for the delicious Mangrove Snappers. Fort De Soto bridge is one of the better bridges to fish in the Tampa Bay area. There are a variety of fish ranging from Speckled Trout, Ladyfish, Flounder, Bluefish, Sheepshead, Jack Crevelle and the highly sought after Florida Pompano can be caught here. The bait I used in this video is the Mojarra, excellent bait for Mangrove Snapper.

Well done man. I live in Largo and fish the Belaire Causeway bridge from a kayak for snapper a lot. I like to cast right up against the concrete bridge pylons, within 1 foot. Live bait is a great option, I like throwing the cast net and always take live bait out with me. That said, bigger pieces of frozen sardines work really well too. It puts a lot of scent in the water and most of the bigger snapper and grouper I've caught were on frozen sardines. Keep it up!

Thanks. I do the same when I take the kayak out at gandy. Summer is the best for snapper but sudden storm can show up out of nowhere so I havent taken the kayak out lately. Live bait is always best, but I've used fresh cut bait before too, and it worked well. I have not fished in the Bellaire causeway bridge. I passed by there a lot when I went to Sandkey for Pompano. I'll stop by and check out the area next time. 😁

Hello, where do you get that live bait? I go with sweet potatoes and only take small ones

You find them on sandy areas of the flats, they love sandy bottom near shore. Do sweet potatoes really work as bait? 🤣

They are usually on sandy bottom, like the beach. I'll do a how to video on catching mojarras on my next snapper fishing trip. 😀
