This is stunning Matt. I'm new to art and not a natural. I watch tutorials and just don't get the hang of pastels. Your comment about the time it took to develop this painting was an Awakening. I'm always trying to keep up with the video and nothing turns out. Thank you for letting us newbies know this wasn't a 40 minute process. I feel more encouraged.

This is definitely one of my favourite paintings, absolutely stunning effects and it shows that it took 15 hours to make with all the incredible detail.

Wow Matt! It is magical to see the strength, energy and beauty of a wave appear with the use of pastels. Good job!

thank you for the art lesson. Although I am still in the sketching mode as a beginner, I still enjoy watching you work, because you are perpetually TEACHING! I am learning so much about the whole craft. Beginning as a great-grandmother, I really want to do this. I am slow, but tenacious.

I was finding a little challenge in art but you have finally quenched it. Some channels produce finished work but you take quality time to explain your art thx the best

Thank you so much for sharing. Great inspiration, and very helpful to see the progression of your work. I've picked up many tips from this video. I love your finished work, and seeing your impression of the reference photo. You've inspired me to get some more pastels.

Awesome painting, Matt! It's beautiful and catastrophic at the same time. Also, I was glad to see that you didn't add the sea bird that was in the reference photo. It just didn't seem like it would have added anything to the final piece. Thanks for sharing and continuing to teach!

Wow! Thought ( I‘m a beginner), sea & details impossible, you‘ve made it possible! Like the amount of varying colours & shades you used, I did the muffin yesterday & liked your guidance through it. Will try a mini sea, if I manage a fraction of what yours I‘ll be pleased. Like your teaching! Thanks!

I want you to know that I appreciate your narrative, the screen layout with the source picture and your color tray. Very well organized with the audience needs considered. It will be difficult for me to not join your offerings. On a fixed (broken) income I have to resist. I am very interested in use of PanPastes, soft pastels, ink drawings and mixing with water and alcohol. Thanks for your efforts.

Hello Matt. I'm new to the channel and really enjoying your images and process; I hope it will inform and influence my work. I wonder if I could suggest leaving the final image on screen for a longer time at the end of each film. I think that I would find the opportunity to consolidate my thoughts about the process with a longer viewing time would be helpful. Perhaps your closing words read over the still image would offer that time. Just a thought! Many thanks.

Awesome instructions man for some reason waves are the hardest part for me in pastel paintings and drawing trying to capture the pure beauty and power of the ocean in my sunset and other beach pastel paintings I have a hard time getting the motion look and waves period all my paintings are mirror flat smooth surfaces like a nice beautiful calm flat evening at the beach on the Gulf of Mexico where I live during summer time sunsets when the water on the beach is flat and glass like and reflects the beautiful reds blues oranges links yellows from the sunset you can see in the slick smooth ocean is beautiful but I wanna capture waves now and it's hard
