Paint a Beach Wave in Pastels - Ocean Wave Demonstration

  • This is a time-lapse demonstration using soft pastels to paint a beach wave. I demonstrate how to start with a base of pastel color and then blend it with a brush and isopropyl alcohol for a solid base of color.
Beginning with an alcohol wash technique works well for painting more realistic and translucent waves on the beach.
    This is my reference photo.

Your soft pastel painting is very beautiful, it makes me feel the freshness of the beaches. Reading the caption, I saw that you used Uart sandpaper, and you also use isopropyl alcohol to watercolor the pastel powder; I never thought of using this alcohol, I always used water or ethyl alcohol. Here in Brazil, sandpaper is extremely expensive, so much so that it is almost inconceivable; I want to use it someday, but I don't know if I'll be that lucky since the current government weighs us down with high taxes. Buying imported material has become something very difficult for artists and our national industry does not offer us professional line products. So, the best way is to go hunting with the cat 🐈 since you don't have a dog 🦮😅😅 I haven't watched your videos for a while, I see that you haven't posted for a long time, TH-cam doesn't notify me of your videos, share them for me whenever you upload some more video. I wish you all the best, God bless you greatly and your whole family 😇🙏

So beautiful! You captured the subtle greens and yellows under the wave and built up the foam very realistically. That I think is hard with soft pastels! Good to know that pastels can be blended out with alcohol. I use 91% Isopropryl in my watercolors, but rarely as it isn't considered archival ... but the effect is so very nice! So very lovely, Rita! You have excellent control of your pastels 🥰
