I bought this pen two years ago and I never wrote with it. I looked at it when I got it and told myself I will write with it after trying out the other pens I bought for my collection but haven't gotten around to it until one day last month when I needed a pen for a portrait I was doing since all my others were inked with colours I didn't need. The second I used it, I couldn't believe I didn't use it sooner. I really enjoy the weight of this pen, the way it writes. It doesn't hard start like my Classic Sport. Now it's in my Kaweco pouch as a everyday pen. Can't wait to see the patina in the coming months down the road. Great review!
I have to say the Brass Sport is epic. Cannot beat it for a pocket pen and that patina as it gets used is even better 👍🏻🙂 I enjoy mine although I wish it were a wetter nib. Sherwood Green from Diamine works well.
1. The Brass Sport weighs 42gm. I was curious about heavy pens, so I bought the champ, the Duke Charlie Chaplin (Amazon $20US), which weighs in at 75gm. I have yet to notice any difference in the results when using a heavier pen. 2. Sure wish I could afford a sterling silver Sport...
Saw it, bought it,love it ! I haven’t used any other pen in my collection for the last ten months and to be honest I don’t think that I ever will again.
I gave one of these pens to my husband and he loves the feeling of a solid, indestructible and easy to carry pen. In a matter of weeks, it developed a lovely patina, but he uses it every single day and the colour keeps on changing. I have one, but I didn't like the smell, so I left it outside of its box for a couple of months. The contact with the air worked its magic to create a uniform patina, but my husband's pen is just wow. You have to use it to create that unique look.
I received my brass sport on the 28th of October, and it's already begun to patina like crazy! Like you, I also prefer to use it unposted (though I do post my plastic sports). I'm very curious how the premium nib compares to a tuned regular steel nib, such as one that's been tuned and smoothed from Dan Smith. I've heard that the premium nibs come with more tipping material as well.
I just ordered the Kaweco Brass with fine nib. They didn’t have the clip. 😕. Its a pen I’ve wanted for a long time and just treated myself. Great review! Thanks! God bless you!
Brass and copper are both bactericidal, good to know in these strange days. Weight can be an issue if you like to write for extended periods ; and also if you have or sometimes employ a flourishing style of writing : both require a light and easily held pen. As against that, such pens are heritage items, virtually indestructible , with a patina to look forward to , and if you find yourself in a life and death encounter ----- that mighty weighted brass pen can administer a death blow ! ( Keep it capped for best results plus protect the nib 😄)
The metal trim on the Visconti pen is not brass. Pen Venture describe(d) it as "rose gold," and I don't know if that means it's actual rose gold, plated with rose gold, or what. My point is that the Brass Sport won't look like that when it patinas, so don't get a Brass Sport expecting it to patina to a warm, rosy color. My Brass Sport has simply mellowed with time/age. It gets darker from oxidation, but not so much where I handle it a lot, both because handling rubs off the oxidation and because oils from the hand protect the metal slightly from oxidation (this varies a lot from person to person - we don't all have the same body chemistry). One cool thing: I had an ink cartridge leak onto the section of the pen, inside the cap. I hadn't used the pen for awhile, and when I pulled it out the section had turned greenish. I thought it was ruined, but I tried polishing it with some Brasso and it worked great! I use mine posted. It is heavy, but I find it well balanced and comfortable to use for longer writing sessions. Just another data point. :)
Thanks for the review. I was curious about this pen but I was afraid of the weight. The kaweko sport is the only pen that I usually post aside from the Lamy Safari because I do very long sessions of writing and have small hands.
Thank you for the review. I don't have the Kaweco Brass Sport yet, but it's on my wish-list. The comparable pen I have is the ensso Piuma Pocket Fountain Pen in Brass. I think you would like the look of it. It's even heftier than the Kaweco at 67g to the Kaweco's 42g. Unfortunately, the ensso pens go out of stock quickly and they're slow to restock at times. It's worth looking at their website, though, to see if it's a brand that might appeal to you.
Birmingham inks are on the dry side for sure. LOVE my Kaweco brass sport. I use it unposted, but like the weight. I find the plastic Kaweco pens to be way too light for me. I really like all their metal pens though.
I’ve heard that there is a bit of a smell from the brass as you use it. Do you notice it? It’s the reason I have held off acquiring the brass. Would love your impressions. Thanks!
Yes there is definitely a metal smell for a while. After about two weeks it seem to not transfer anymore onto my hand but it definitely took some regular use first.
So, your ink is too light/lite and your pen is too heavy!!.......... I like the weight, I feel like it gives me more control over my inherent chicken scratch!!

My Brass Sport is coming in the mail tomorrow. So excited

Thanks Kerry! I really like the color of the ink tho! I wouldn't have expected such a sky blue from the name, "Copper chloride"!!
I think saying you have “a lot” of Kaweco Sports is an understatement.😊
I bought a Kaweco brass fountain pen and it’s just too heavy in my grip…I gave it to my husband and now it’s his favorite pocket pen 🙂

Ichiro - I have a Karas Kustoms "Fountain K" all copper pen that also weighs 75 gm. I like it a lot.
@@randy-9842 and beautiful.
Buying it after watching your review.

Which nib?

I have a Brass Sport and a black AL Sport, both with premium nibs. I love, love, LOVE them both and use them every day.

Thanks for the review; I've been wanting to try a brass sport some time; just recorded my own Dia 2 review, too (out this weekend)! :)
Brass sport is my favourite carry anywhere pen.

I am interested in the Brass Sport for its self-cleaning aspects, and its weight. May have to make an investment.

I love my brass sport. I'm on the fence about pulling the trigger on the premium nib. hmmm.
Brass Sport is an awesome piece! If I were going for a premium Sport, I'd veer towards the Steel, or wait for next year's piston version...
I’ve a $15 Kaweco Sport Brass “Clone” which writes as good as a genuine Kaweco Sport and I’m happy !!
I’ve heard that there is a bit of a smell from the brass as you use it. Do you notice it? It’s the reason I have held off acquiring the brass. Would love your impressions. Thanks!

A little bias 🤣 about dry nbs - Haha - you really don't prefer dry nibs 😀. Thanks for the review.
I have a $3000 USD FP that weighs almost 200g, so 42g ain't that heavy. That said, the pen is plated in palladium.
Another Kaweco blurb!
❤️❤️👍❤️❤️

Those premium nibs are absurdly overpriced. I'm a little sad that Kaweco is shilling them.
