I never been through anything like that on a shrimp boat but I have been through a really rough storm in a smaller boat. I was not sure I would make it back, its a terrible feeling to have almost no control except to do everything right, time the waves, watch the pitch, steer into the roll just enough. All the whole knowing that honestly, if you get it all exactly right it still may not be even close to enough! Luck smiled on me that day! I'm glad these guys made it through!

Fishing in bad weather is no joke!! Good job to those scared but experienced captains!! Damaged boats can be repaired but ended lives and broken hearts cannot. Hug your loved ones cuz you just never know if its gonna be your last hug.

I’ve only been caught in one storm and it was pretty rough. It can get pretty ugly out there. It can go from calm smooth as glass to rolling, pitching and getting knocked around in all in the same hour. I follow the weather very thoroughly before I go out fishing and that’s not always a guarantee.

That looked real nasty , glad they all made it home , and that type of boat is quite unstable in high wind with all that high trawling gear .

I was at the Bay Saint Louis, MS harbor when this was happening, to check on our tied up boat, and there were winds there that felt like they were over 50 mph. And, I wondered about boats that we're caught out in it, and how bad it would be. That had to have been pretty frightening.

I'm glad it's you and not me out there. I've been there done that and I'm though with it. Never again. ( I'm not flying anymore either) I'm here on dry land with my 20 pc. Gulf shrimp and fish combo. Good luck and godspeed cause I plan on ordering another combo next week.

Being at sea has become so much safer, over the last thirty years because weather forecasts have become so much more reliable......until something like this happens. Weather forecasts are still not 100% reliable.

Leaving near a beach was not popular during 1930 till 1987. After 1987 many many people have moved to the coast. I predict many will return to higher grounds soon enough. Seas are getting rough. Storms are meaner then ever.

There are things in life you don’t forget… a boat or ship in a real storm, an aircraft in trouble and a devastating earthquake. Having experienced these things, I know you cannot go back to who you once were. War was actually less threatening and frightening.

  • @paulholm4827

These guys were in a panic. It is called bad weather the boat seed to be handling it pretty well. The seas were not breaking over the bow of the boat and the widows weren't breaking. I am a commercial fisherman in Alaska.

    • @paulholm4827

Much respect here for men and women who make their living on big waters. Alot of panic for sure as I don't think these men and many others out there were prepared for the severity of this storm. Just goes to show mother nature is always unpredictable no matter how much man tries to predict the weather.Hopefully this vessel made it back safely.

We got hit by a freak storm. Had to go into the waves, sideways or hit the rocks. Shocked when we didn't roll. Went totally sideways. Knocked one of the motors loose. We survived, with damage and leaking. Commercial boat. Don't want to try that again, at least for awhile.

And to think there are Waters way more deadly than this the gulf has some of the most calm waters in the ocean. Just think of how much worse it could have been if in the open Atlantic or even for some reason the Indian Ocean.
