Didn't even know about this version. Grew up with these artists ❤❤❤ Love both the original and this versions ... Wow!! Sir Cliff Richard!!!! 🙏 Merry Christmas 2021, God Bless us all. Praise God we can see another Christmas, thank you Jesus.
My favourites are the original 1984 version as well as this version as they were both performed by my favourites artists of the 80's (Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Jimmy Sommervile and Bananarama) and the veteran (Cliff Richard). It was a pity that Rick Astley didn't join to sing in this version. I always get goosebumps everytime I listen to these songs every December since 1984/1989. It is good to keep the tradition and reproduce the song every 5 or 10 years with the new generations of artists of the time as have been done now.
I think they are all great artists in this version, and they've great voices. And I have listened to their music from when I was growing up to now. And when they were first released and when I was growing up, I used to hang posters of them up in my bedroom wall. And I still have the cds I bought when they were first released.
Obviously the 1984 original is the absolute best, but I love that they keep updating it and adding current artists or artists that missed out the first time around- looking at you, Cliff Richard!
I think it's a travesty. It undermines the whole purpose. With the original it was done so organically and on a whim. As a by-product, everyone's profile went through the roof...but that was never the goal. With this one, I feel philanthropy took a backseat...
@@rampageclover9788Then you missed the point of it completely. The 1989 famine in Ethiopia was the travesty and the fact that five years after the original had raised so much money, parts of Africa were no better off than they had been. Geldof’s exasperation that lessons clearly hadn’t been learned, spurred him to revive Band Aid to raise more funds to feed those who were dying of malnourishment and starvation. 1989 had been the pinnacle of Stock Aitken Waterman’s career, their “sound” defining a whole generation. In 1989 alone they had written/produced 6 number 1 singles by 4 different artists, written and produced the year’s highest selling album, Jason Donovan’s “Ten Good Reasons” and single handily revived Donna Summer’s failing career- returning her into the UK and US Top 10 charts from which she had long been absent. It was clear who Geldoff would turn to in order to deliver this next incarnation of Band Aid. Stock Aitken Waterman. This was organised and recorded in the shortest amount of time than any of the other versions. There was less calculation in this production and those who participated did so with their very best intentions.
Yeah, although I've never really been much of a fan of pop music, I recall that I quite liked this version (as an Aussie, I was rapt that Kylie & Jason Donovan prominently featured in it) at the time...my God, I forgot until now just how damn pretty the twins (Matt & Luke) from the pop band BROS were!!
Great production, and an impressive list of pop stars. Had I never heard the original, I’d love this. Unfortunately, I have. The first Band-Aid will always be my favorite, no matter how good other versions are.
@@disneydanny2Weird? In what way? After the 1984 original, this 1989 remake is the next best version. 1988/89 was the year of PWL and SAW and Band Aid II was the sound of 1989 personified. The single was a massive success, becoming the UK’s 9th highest selling single of that year. The 2004 and 2014 versions don’t hold a torch to the originality of the 1984 and 1989 versions. Also, if we are to talk about “weird”, the gold star for that goes to 2004’s Band Aid 20, with Dizze Rascal’s cringey rap being shoehorned in.
I like the original 1984 version but I do believe this version is better. It’s truly underrated. There is more compassion in the voices and the Stock Aiken Waterman production is excellent. Well done one and all.
