All of a sudden proven superstars like Barkley, Malone, Robinson, Ewing, Drexler, and Pippen were making less $ than some guys who hadn't put on a uniform yet, and young players who hadn't done anything yet. @@darrengordon-hill ok, so this is probably going to sound either boring or condescending, or both. Renegotiating contracts in order to improve the conditions purely to improve worker satisfaction in certain cases is a thing that can be done. If Pippen would have pulled a Vince Carter and not played hard, and then they'd not have won anything, he would have still been living up to his contract. They could have doubled his salary and not have had any cap problems; ownership has always been that cheap.

Yeah, but that was bad editing on The Last Dance's part. When you're talking about Scottie Pippen being unhappy with his contract, I don't care about Michael Jordan playing baseball or coming back to visit whenever baseball season was over. That one episode where they covered Scottie sitting out that play where Kukoć hit that playoff game winner, I couldn't have cared less about what MJ thought. MJ said he told Phil Jackson, "Man, I don't know how Scottie can come back from that as the team's leader." How is that relevant? At that moment, I'd be more interested in Scottie explaining the growth in leadership. Scottie pipen was the most valuable bull in the 90s he led in every stat category on the team execpt points and he made the 94 ecf. With Scottie the player who is considered the goat wouldn’t have any rings the truth is Scottie is the heart and soul of the team
@@zegobot9674 I don't believe Jordan without Pippen is ringless, not six or two three peats sure. But ringless? No, Krause would've found a second star to pair with Jordan or he would've left the Bulls.
Not many people remember the fact that Pippen was playing with Injury in 96 and Dennis Rodman missed a lot of games due to suspensions and what not. They only remember 72 wins with a ring.
Clara, just wanted to let you know you absolutely killed this video and keep up the awesome work, don't doubt your skill again you're and awesome narrator that can grab the attention viewers easily.
Krause got a superstar for pennies on the dollar and knew that all the threats Pippen threw at him were empty because he liked winning more than money. What a GM masterclass

@@SSEF15 They kind of are the TWolves of the East now and have been for the past 20 years. Both teams have had a superstar player (DRose and KG) but both have failed to win a ring. @@TheFishingNomad That's not how it works man. Other bulls players signed lesser deals and got them remade for better. @@lukesmith9692 in his wildest dreams. Rodman was an amazing rebounder, maybe the best ever, but that's legitimately the only thing he was better than pippin at. He was worse in every other regard and wasn't even there for most of the bulls championships.
How any team can come together with such complex group dynamics and win one championship is truly a feat in itself. Mind blowing that the bulls did it six times
@@NotaPizzaGRL The Wizards were the worst team in the league and Jordan carried them to the 5th spot until his injury at 38. He was in the MVP conversation and was the only player averaging over 25/5/5. There's no counterpoint. That's BS media narrative and it was still great leadership.
It’s crazy how valuable to bulls pipen was now you might think I’m crazy but he was more valuable than mj. Yet so disrespected he led the bulls in alll stat category’s execpt points and almost made the finals in 94. In reality he was the heart and soul of the team and without him mj would have no rings

I so want to like Scottie. He has such an amazing back story. He grew up in one of the toughest situations of any player in history. Busted his butt to play at a low-level college team and made it to the NBA to become a 6-time champion and a top 75 player of all time. It’s an amazing story - that he completely ruins by being selfish and self-absorbed. Come on, Scottie. Have a little grace and learn to let things go.
He was my favorite player of all times, but he has really gone of the rails recently. I think something flipped in him after his son's death, maybe and he just stopped giving a F***. The worst for me, was when he had his chance with Portland to best the Lakers in game 7, when they choked in the final minutes. The only team that could trouble Portland that year was LA, because nobody could stop Shaq. But Pippen didn't take charge, he kept facilitating to the other guys, Brian Grant, Rasheed Wallace, Stoudamire, etc. and they choked, but HE was the one with 6 rings, and while he wasn't in his prime, it was up to him. They won that game, they would've cake walked through the finals, and Pippen would have a 7th title without MJ, completely changing his legacy. He said after, "we played like cowards" and it was true, and it sickens me to this day.

I see Scottie’s perspective but when he refused to take the floor when the play was not called to give him the last shot he lost too much respect to get in the good graces with fans so nobody cared as much at how he was being underpaid because of it.
I saw Scotty pimping his liquor at the local South Lamar Wine and Spirits store in my neighborhood earlier this year, and he was the same Surly the Legend we've come to love. As a Jazz fan, it's pretty painful to realize that maybe Stockton would have a ring of Pippen had actually forced his way out of Chicago at some point.
This entire beef can be boiled down to; Scottie Pippen signs terrible contract against advice of basically everyone, then proceeds to complain about his own decision for the next 40 years.
Not really, it comes down to Jerry Reinsdorf being to stubborn to raise his salary, while then later being okay with the idea of paying MJ tens of millions a year to play minor league baseball 😂
Scottie signed a long contract that paid less than he ended up being worth. That was his choice to do that. Then he wants to cry the money is too low after the Bulls start winning championships? His beef with Krause isn't valid. He chose to go that route with the contract and was warned not to by the Bulls management including Krause.

Locking yourself in a long contract is a big mistake, and he was told so. But he desperately wanted financial security, he was so afraid of getting a career-ending injury and he couldn’t risk losing the money, which was a very small chance considering how hard he worked on his body and game. The lesson here is don’t let your fears drive you, instead bet on yourself just like MJ did by signing for 1 year and get paid double every year.
Nah. MJ was under the same long term contract, and probably more underpaid than Pippen because of the fact that MJ was the one who was putting people on the seats. Even Wilt Chamberlain said every player should give a percentage of their earning to Mike because of what Mike did for the game's popularity. The lesson here is be PROFESSIONAL,. Yeah both his father who had a stroke and brother are in wheelchairs. Pippen himself was a risk with back problems as well so there was a backended insurance deal that Reisendorf mentioned but didn't go into detail about it in the last dance documentary.
Both Jerrys told him not to sign it but he did it anyway this is old true chicago fans knew about this way before the last dance Pippen was not forced to sign it he wanted it.
It was still Pippen’s own fault for signing that bad deal. Even Reinsdorf told him “If I were you, I wouldn’t take that deal.” He should have known his worth and bet on himself. If he had, he’d have been among the top 10 highest paid players in the league for most of his career instead of the 91st paid. It’s a bad situation, but he was warned, he signed anyway and management decided to hold him over a barrel. 🤷♂️
The whole contract thing did slightly annoy me because no one held a gun to Scottie's head when he signed. If he had spent that contract injured/playing awfully he'd still have to be paid. Both sides gambled signing that deal but it paid off way better for the organisation than Scottie.
I said it before during ‘The Last Dance’ and I’ll say it again: Imperfect people dealing with imperfect people is hard. While I understand Scottie Pippen fighting for his worth, he chose to sign a bad contract in 1991. Because of that, HE is the reason for the beef.
@@20marvelman Hey!! I did see the first episode, and I admire him for thinking of his family. That said, he still signed a bad contract when several people around him told him there’s no turning back.
What Pippen didnt understand was that they COULD NOT renegotiate his contract. That was the old CBA. The agreement with the players and owners signed in 91 prevented that. Remember when Kemp requested a new contract and he was ridiculed for it? Same thing, and if Pippen had stayed quiet, he'd got what he wanted. That was one of the reasons Krause didn't want to keep the team together.
I gotta be honest, take Pippen off the Bulls and plug in an at the least a really good player(grant hill, Mitch Richmond, sprewell, Reggie miller, stack house and so on) they still would of won all those championships. Jordan was the dude who held it all together. Pippen was good but extremely overrated

Bulls were 4-6 w/o Pippen in 1994. They were 51-21 w/ Pippen. He was 3rd in MVP voting in 94 and best player in NBA who was not a center named Olajuwon or Robinson. Shaq is arguably better in 94 but not really strongly arguable vs Pippens team success and Pippens composure and experience vs a young baby 🍼 Hughie SHAQ. And Ewing was near the top of the league but not as good as Pippen in 1994. And Karl Malone and Charles Barkley were not better than Pippen in 94. Now in 95 yes the Grant less Bulls of Pippen and Kukoc were on their way out of serious title contention. They were 34-31 and about 6th or 7th seed headed if not for the infamous, "RETURN" of Michael "AIR" Jordan who helped Chicago finish 13-4 and a respectable and competeable 47-35 and #5 seed in the 95 East ➡️. Pippen was running out of STEAM 🚂 in Chicago in year 2 SIN Horace Grant and Michael Jordan 23. But in 94, Pippen was one of the MVPS of the NBA. 95 he was too but he was starting to experience severely the reality of being a LONE ⭐ STAR in the NBA. And it wasn't the familiarity he was used to joining a 50-32 1987-88 Chicago Bulls squad. He was going thru Jordan's 84-85 to 86-87 experience and he was not MJ good or as youthful as MJ in his 94-95 and 8th season in the league. I am speaking 🗣️ FACTS. U r speaking 🗣️ CACA booty boi.

Led the team to 55 wins but also quit on his team in the playoffs and was saved by a rookie Kukoc that helped the Bulls push the Knicks to seven games. Interesting how Pippen only wants to talk about the success but not the failure. It doesn't work that way. At the end of the day, the Bulls did not win in 94 and so it will not be remembered like the title years. That's the way it goes. It's all about winning, not whining.
12:44 Not entirely true. The Bulls had a resurgence even before Pippen rejoined, improving from 12-9 to 20-9 after Dec 12, 1997, and the records before Pippen rejoined the team in mid-January 1998 was 24-11. Not exactly the worst record at all!!!
Question if Pippen played for 10 mil a year and averaged 5 points per game would he think it’s fair to renegotiate for less money, no. Pippen signed a bad deal that the owner and gm said was a bad deal and told him straight up I’m not gonna renegotiate after that. Also MJ only made over 4 mil a year for 2 seasons in his career. Krause got a superstar for pennies on the dollar and knew that all the threats Pippen threw at him were empty because he liked winning more than money. What a GM masterclass
Machiavellian of him, sure, but if it wasn’t for MJ’s existence in this universe this style of management would’ve turned the Bulls into the Twolves of the East
@@SSEF15 They kind of are the TWolves of the East now and have been for the past 20 years. Both teams have had a superstar player (DRose and KG) but both have failed to win a ring. Pippen didn't have to sign that low money contact, but he did. It's on him if he was upset he wasn't getting more money.

Y’all make my drives around Boston so much better. Genuinely, thank you 😊
You realize the Bulls were 26-12 without Pippen in 97-98. They were hoopin after the first 10 games.
You realize your mom's bee whole got plowed a whole lot more after you were born. Customers didn't wanna pay for the front whole after what you did to those meat curtains coming out the womb. You wrecked that thing boy.
You mean black story instead of back story, right son?

Great doc and read! I'm sure a lot of his behavior is regrettable but I have great empathy for Pippen. Raised in generational poverty in Jim Crow AK, 11 siblings, an aging mother, and a father who requires round-the-clock medical care...and here he is executing at the HIGHEST level of professional sports and helping to build a billion-dollar brand. There is NO guarantee of a next season and career-ending injuries lurk with his amount of playtime...the $ he could be getting not only changes the life of his parents and siblings, but for him and his kids, and possibly their kids...it really can feel like life or death. The last few setences really makes you think about this whole ordeal: Was winning all those championships amidst all the internal flaws the Bulls had worth it? Nontheless remarkable how they dominated the 90s ins spite of this.
Scottie's fault. Everyone told him not to sign his long-term deal. Even Reinsdorf told him don't sign it. Pippen wanted the security immediately.

Jordan earned way more when he retired than when he played because he had that REPUTATION.
