    Apologies that I had to turn off comments on my videos for a bit - just need to create some mental space for myself the past few days, and the break was well worth it! Timestamps for this video are below, and I hope you enjoy (:
    00:46 - make use of boxes and storage containers
    2:24 - leverage toilet paper rolls for loose cords and electronics
    3:10 - consider color coordination
    4:00 - roll and keep clothing neatly stacked
    4:51 - consider open shelving or treat your closets as open shelves
    5:48 - consider using jars or ceramics for counter storage
    6:39 - declutter regularly
    7:28 - do a 5 minute cleanup

    An unspoken tip is having a calm neutral colour palette everywhere. Really makes even a bit of clutter less stressing. Then you can add a bit of colour seasonally.

    I’m not a minimalist but I had a very messy room when I started taking accutane, SO MANY LOOSE PRODUCTS! Everywhere! So I got some boxes shoved them in. Absolutely amazing with organizing especially if you have no place in your drawers and wardrobes.

  • @Lisawhatshersname
    @Lisawhatshersname 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    I completely agree with keeping those shelves cleared and the five-minute pickup! It really helps.
    On small word on the cardboard boxes - realize that cockroaches really love the glue that holds them together! We've had to replace all.of ours with plastic. Yes I know it's not sustainable but roach dirt sets off asthma attacks.
    Thanks for posting!

    I've been looking at minimalism for quite some time now and soak up everything I can get to finally make up my mind about how to tackle my clutter. Not that easy after having a hoarder-tendency for almost 2 decades...
    One thing I already found useful is "consider cleaning up part of the act" (thanks to Lefie!), maybe in addition to the 5-minute clean ups you mentioned.
    It also helps with keeping clutter build up in check, like putting the dishes in the washer right after eating instead of placing them on the counter for one concentrated run (which then "never" happens)

    Great video...great tips!!! I have been recycling shoe boxes for drawer separators, but also the lids can be used to keep things organized and together in cabinets and drawers. I also frequently buy salads in those large 1 lb. plastic bins. The lids can be used to line the bottom of cabinets where wet bottles might be set as under the kitchen sink for dishwashing soap bottles or under the bathroom sink to organize bottled liquids. I use the heavier plastic bins under the kitchen sink for holding rubber gloves and other items like sponges.

    • @midimitrova471

      Same with me

    • @constancewilliams4619
      @constancewilliams4619 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ditto. Also good for bottles and jars of oils or oily foods. Currently using narrow, shallow foil pans to line up peanut butter jars in the pantry, also lined with a paper towel for a small leak.
      The pantry floor is where I keep other items that might leak and then drip down from one shelf to another. Cleaning up the floor alone is what I prefer to deal with. That said it's still about inventory.

  • @dianaq201

    For cords, I reuse the coffee bag ties. I found that this 'twist tie' is way sturdier than rubber bands to keep cords together over a long period. Normal rubber bands tend to dry out and snap within a year. I like using this method because the "organizing" tool is still attached to the cord, which means less stuff for me to keep track of.
    First I secure the coffee tie near one end of the cord. I fold/roll up the cords according to the natural curve/bend then I wrap the tie around the whole bundle. It might not fit around really thick or long cords, but it works with all the consumer tech I own.
    You can also bend the tie to create a hook to hang off any crossbars on your desk, etc. :) I do this for my laptop charger because it tends to fall behind my desk.

    A bit late to the party but I find this video really soothing to watch. I have a different approach but your way works as well. For electronic cables, I tie them with mini Velcro bands and then put them in small itsy (small) mesh bags. There's assorted colors mesh bags and you can see right through the bags.

    • @constancewilliams4619
      @constancewilliams4619 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been using hair bands for cables. The various colors help with seeing and separating not only by item types but also the family member it belongs to.
      In the kitchen, some small appliances have thicker cords and I've been using the hair bands with the metal band in the middle making a loop of the band at each end, and on the two loops is a single bead. Stretching one loop over the other, the beads hold the band, keeping the hair (cord) together.
      Depending upon where the outlet is, this keeps as much, or as little, of the cord out of your workspace.

    Loved this 💗 I have minimal possessions but my living room always looks messy because everything I do own is splayed out on the floor. I got so caught up in not buying things that I refused to buy storage boxes. That's now changed and I'm looking into a fabric ottoman for my living room. I always have a look round charity shops now also for cute storage boxes ☺️
