Had a classmate back in high school who refused to draw with anything else but those cheap blue pens they sold in 10-20 packs. Her art style wasn't my cup of tea per se, but I always admired her linework and shading! I think her most impressive piece was one where she drew two characters walk through fog, one being more visible at the front, the other further back less so. She really captured that feeling on unease and mystery fog can bring with it!

Ball pointed pen is MY FAVORITE. It is so fun to doodle with! And the weight control is surprisingly nice. Plus they’re inexpensive and super easy to find.
I love doodling with pens, its really good for practicing line confidence and forces you to think a bit ahead and even how to fix or cover up mistakes without erasing

I love using ballpoint pens! I prefer them over pencils, and just barely over mechanical pencils. They're a bit hard to get used to, but super fun!
I personally really love making tiny portraits with ballpoint pen and trying to get as much detail in there as possible with the medium

It's honestly fun after years of pen pressure practice with my experience with colored pencils. I was happy when I was able to apply them on pens and I finally found the uniqueness with my art because I only use pens most of the time. Glad there are more artists finding appreciation for them

Same! I always do outline with a ballpoint pen instead of a gel pen when I sketch. All the artists I've seen back to my childhood were using gel pens, so I was using too (and was suffering a lot hehe). But when I discovered black ballpoint pens... Not as just stationery, but as an art medium, I was so happy 😂

I don’t enjoy doodling anymore but those RSVPs were my absolute *favorite* to write with before I became disabled. They have a little scratch to them, which I love because I don’t like ink that glides too much, but they’re still smooth enough to make a nice line without little breaks. So nice to see someone else who appreciates them too!
I love it. It's actually my favorite way of "drawing". Well at least traditionally. I'm mostly drawing digitally, but I love the permanence of quick doodles. They aren't perfect and that's totally fine, cause they were never meant to be more than just doodles.

OH MY GOSH! Scott I have that same drawing notebook! I have been using it for all sorts of multimedia since the beginning on 2023! So cool to see my favorite art TH-camr use something I use!
I love drawing quick subject thumbnails in ballpoint before doing a full sketch. Especially for characters! I've found it to be a great way to capture quick, inconsequential impressions and overall feeling/mood without getting lost in the image and it tends to help me warm up

Ballpoint pens are also great if you don't know what to draw or are scared of messing up. The unforgiving nature of the pen makes it fun and knowing it's going to be imperfect makes you enjoy the process instead of worrying about the finished piece

ball point pens are one of my favorite things to doodle with because they make you worry less about making mistakes because every mark is permanent so you just layer

I love this. I love the feeling of freedom drawing with those pens gives me, when I draw with a pencil I feel like I should try to correct all the mistakes I see, but with the pen you can't just erase them, you have to be creative to get to fix them and you already know there's no way it will turn out to be a perfect masterpiece, so you just have fun without any pressure.

If you layer ball point pens from light to dark, it'll give a very intense dark shade. It's a good technique to make the pen look richer, thicker and smoother. One can also try light scribbling strokes.
I LOVE THIS MEDIUM! I also use coloured ball point pens to layer and make interesting shades. They can also be used with colour pencils.
I love drawing with gel pens! They have such strong black color, it really makes the drawings pop
