I hadn't heard this song before. I knew it with Fantastic Judy 💞, just this year.. Today I looked it up in other versions. No one can hold the candle to Judy's version. Not even Dean Martin 👑, my absolute King. Peggy Lee's is pretty good. But the emotion I get listening to Judy, is totally different. It goes from her soul directly to mine. Mesmerizing Judy Garland 💞.. 🪻🌿

Beautifully said. Reading the comments I can see and feel that her fans “ get her “.by their response to this performance. When you receive Garland your entire being is tickled when she sings a song of joy and when she sings a sad song like “ cottage for sale” your devastated. Judy brings out our humanity and what it is to be a human being.
And you can tell as she stands that she knows she’s about to throw that feeling of delight like turning on a light switch that part in You that will be tickled. Must have given her such joy to know she could do that. My Lord what a talent.

The standard by which we can measure all of those others who sing their voices and NOT pay attention to the lyric - and send it across like she did.
She's been gone 50 years now, hard to believe she left us an only 47, the wonderful thing is she's lived on longer than she was alive, and she will be alive as long as there are those who appreciate a magnificent voice and talent. We miss you Judy!

First heard Judy sing this song in 1961. It was the Carnegie Hall show in S.F at the Civic Aud. As in this video she was sitting on the piano bench with Mort Lindsay and she stood up and started that strut downstage the audience went wild as we did often during her concerts. Judy was the best and still is the best! Hall

Everytime I saw a Judy's video singing, I think that every singing teacher should show them to his/her students, as an example of how to convey the feeling of a song. Beyond her technique, it was her heart, and how she poured it into a song, what makes her unique and timeless
It was Mort Lindsey's Orchestra who did the Judy Garland Shows. The music was excellent and complemented Judy perfectly. I think he truly cared about her.

I’ve been a die hard Judy fan for 60 years and this is my all time favourite performance-she is simply brilliant-I’ve even left instructions in my will to have this recording played at my memorial service-along with “Hello Bluebird”, a close second 👍😚

I had the pleasure of meeting Mort Lindsay when he was in Atlantic City a few years back- a very nice guy and we found we had several friends in common and had a great old time swapping stories- a memorable night! I would love to have this entire series on DVD, to the best of my knowledge there are only bits and pieces available...
One of the reasons Judy repeated songs on the series was that before she switched to the "Concert" format of the show, her voice was picked up by the overhead boom mic, which was forced to move with the cameras. Usually at the songs end, it has to move back to not be picked up in the frame as the camera pulls away from Judy. Often she is seen belting away with very little or no sound. She was unhappy with the sound for much of the series and, when they decided to do concerts and they bought an expensive new hand held mic for her, she felt she could better her first efforts and so she repeated many of the songs from the beginning of the series such as Old Man River, As Long As He Needs Me, Come Rain or Come Shine etc. Steve Sander's book answers a lot of "why's" about Judy's series.
She aged way too young. The tremble in her voice and hesitant movements. It became part of her "mystique." But one can only imagine if she were able to live a more normal life without drugs what her performances would be like and how much her age and wisdom would have added to those performances. I love her, but feel such sadness every time I see her struggling in these venues.

I think she was particularly fond of this arrangement which he introduced in '62, but she quite expand her song selection throughout the series.
