I was brought here also by the golden girls! IThink of someone that i can't have and i am in Love with themjust a dream that won't come true, what will I do!? 😣😢
She gave a compassionate and endearing performance in the 1963 film A Child is Waiting … she was only 41 years old at the time but the depth of her performance made her seem much older to me💞
I was born a little more than 20 years after this performance... I didn't know about the song at until one day the tv happened to be on and a coca-cola commercial of all things had this as the backing track and I felt a single tear drop fall. Needless to say, a deep dive was inevitable.
She was very talented! I'm glad she and all others who have a gift to share musical talent listen to that voice inside of them to share, do share as it impacts individuals in so many positive ways
This should have been so amazing... as she said, Irving Berlin's ballads are some of the very best. And yet - she did nothing with it. Her voice was diminished, there was nothing that truly amplified the song, and it was more boring than inspiring. Sorry ballads should be sorry - and she mastered that - but they should also convey that sorrow to the audience and this just didn't. I don't like it.
Sorry you dislike it. I actually find it extremely moving because of her diminished abilities. The ❤ is still there and a special, tender purity in the voice.
Judy Garland was a treasure.
Golden Girls brought me here :)
same but i love judy garland. bea arthurs version is beautiful though
Same
Me too

A-- effin' damned men!
Nothing...that's what I am doing because it just happened to me...move on with ya life...😊
My grandmother would sing this to me as a child... as a 54yr old bloke, it will always a place in my heart...
She lived several lifetimes in her 47 years
I sing this to my dog every night at bedtime
What an iconic voice...😢❤
Gorgeous tune sung by a true gem
Wish there was a studio recording of Bae Arthur's version aside from the performance she did in The Golden Girls ❤❤❤
That voice, the one and only Judy Garland.
Doesn't she though. Judy has a way of reaching your heart just like she was sitting in your living room crooning love songs to you.
No one can sing a ballad like this superstar! Judy Garland can wring tears out of hearts of stone.
Oh Judy ❤
My grandmother would sing this as she baked... amongst my precious memories.
Thanks for the upload...
JUDY! Wish you knew how much you are still appreciated and loved
Thank you Judy
Judy Garland always sang her heart out!!!
01:55 The sudden change of her eyes when the song hits
She breaks my heart❤️

This version always brings tears to my eyes. It reminds me of my Mom.

I first heard the song as the theme song for Birds of a Feather. It's always stuck with me.
She gave it all to us!

Listen to those beautiful effects of ‘vocal damage’ at 2:21!
You've got to give it to Judy. She does a great Jinkx Monsoon...
Absolutely beautiful.
Timeless.
Irvine Berlin brought me here. He wrote 1500 songs.
Thank you for finding this. One of my favorite Irving Berlin songs or songs period.
What a treasure she was
I thought I read somewhere that Irving Berlin said Judy sang his songs the best out of anyone. Even if he never said that, it’d still be the truth.
He did say that. He also wrote the song, "It Only Happens When I Dance With You" after dancing with her. The song is in Easter Parade.
She was very talented! I'm glad she and all others who have a gift to share musical talent listen to that voice inside of them to share, do share as it impacts individuals in so many positive ways
I love Judy ❤️❤️
Wonderful and sad
Singing starts at 00:55

This is timeless 💖💖
Stunning work. Thank you. ❤️
What'll I do with just
A photograph
To tell my troubles to?
I read that this song was a hit in 1924. The words are still true today. A timeless classic.
Cannot listen w/o a 😢...
0:52 "Let's do Irving's song."
I still love Bea Arthur’s version better💜💜
Omg!!! I Just finished watching it on The Golden Girls...I lik Bea Arthur's better to, bring tears to my eyes...
both judy garland and billie holliday seem to have similar tragic careers
The only similarity between the two is substance use disorder which is fairly common among musicians.
Maude does it best.
