Not a single flat-brimmed-energy-drink hat to be seen. Love it.
Did spot a can of Red Bull though
It's amazing how far mountain biking has changed. You don't see this much pedaling in today's DH races.
You don't see pedaling. 6 pedal strokes at the start then it's a gravity run. Much prefer the fitness and stamina of this old style. Of course I was their and did some races and could see the change withing the first 2 seasons. Plankways and bigger drops. We used to ride to the start line then home made bikes came along with trail motor bike tyres then MX money and that was the end. Our local course was ae forest and TV coverage changed the finish from a bomb hole to a sprint off a wall drop. 4inch travel for us privateers was no good anymore.
The course looks so natural......no wooden jumps, trail centre style man made sections !! How cool is that !!! Never ever thought Id say that !!
wow, the bikes are so different! narrow bars, steep head angle and shorter travel. amazing to see these old school bikes.
When Anne came on the scene she just destroyed the competition. Absolutely dominated. I mean she spills and STILL easily cleans a legendary Missy Giove. Incredible rider. A legend.
yea... with the guy that was there to pick up and run her bike back to the track.... he didnt even look at her.... cheat much?
i saw cheating.... that guy was set there just to do that. He picked that bike up and ran it right to the track like he was paid to do it. Cheaters... french.
@@robinvisintin2550 bro came back 1 and a half years later to continue hating
This was the 1st downhill race I watched on tv and was so stoked to see peaty win
That intro was amazing! 😍 Only 26 and it's still make me feel old XD
Thank you very much for posting this awesome footage from the 99 UCI WC DH season....99 was a very special year in DH racing and I love watching videos from that era.
thanks for uploading these!
WHOS WATCHING 20 YEARS LATER.......!! 2019 biking was my life in high school , before i got my drivers licence, used to buy mountain bike magazine before the days of the internet........just realized this is VHS
12:10 amazing stuff
귀한 영상 고맙습니다.
It's so crazy watching this now and seeing how far racing has come. Those bikes... and that course... everything is so different now.
thank you awesome
I love how the track is just a big smooth dirt hill for the most part
Congrats GT team for winning the DH race 1999. im so proud that i got my GT 2014 DH bike. I love GT.
Good share... We went to Les Gets that year.... They had shut the coarse off, but we still road it... Occasionally piling into wire fences that you couldn`t see.
awesome classic race !
i like this so much..
+bowtie mountain its 16 years ago..
+bowtie mountain mountain biking hasn't been around for 50 years... So in terms of mountain biking, it's pretty classic
My two favourite riders Gracia and Peat. Peaty keeping it yorkshire with a pint of best.
Steve Peat drinking a beer on stage instead of the champagne is awesome.
haha it looks so wierd how they all sit down when they ride
6 minute downhills, tiring as fuck.
old school mountain bicycles have suspension on saddle
old school bikes \m/.
In 97 they combined world cup and norba national at mount snow,
What a great time to be had.
I don't get how Anne Caroline even won that,
wow
And he still kills it. Cedric is a master.
I still have my 1999 Foes DHS with the Foes F1 inverted fork!
Fun to look back. How slow they went back in the day :-O
1999 DH bike technology seems like the horse and cart days,so primitive.
Look at those frames!
those frames fathered what we ride today. in 99 us guys that went big broke everything. I snapped 26 xt bottom bracket spindles in one summer. Norco kept giving me new ones for my vps1 so I kept braking them lol.
Wow, nice
Pretty awesome.
super
Awesome race! Steve Pete for the win!
Que bonitos tiempos??
if any one of those riders at and in their own time period had a 2019 specialized enduro elite factory model, they would win by many seconds more than a 1/10
ACC. Incredible run !
This is so cool, seeing these old bikes. Imagine if they had tried a modern DH bike back in 1999, I wonder how they would feel on that. It might be too much for these pros even!
Why?
Too much? Lol wtf? how old are you? 12?
nice run cg!! 18:17
bring the rain!
Gooood peat
These are Dh bikes 13 years later they weight 40 pounds! but they cost twice as much!
Today there are some XC tracks more difficult than that one and for non professionals like me. Some times I don´t understand people who design tracks for amateurs, I like some dificulties but I would not like to kill my self.
Best moment 19:50 Gracia was incredible, despite that.
Did everyone run small frames?
Anyone know what's happened to all the old Mountain Bike Britain videos? They seem to have disappeared off TH-cam.
Erm .... I think it's because this is 17 years ago and it's very muddy?
19:05 gracia was a wild style, well now he is te WILD WOLF
She crashed and still won? unbelievable...………...
во времена были
It's fast downhill cross-country
It’s like walking with dinosaurs
There so much slower than now.
Who's watching in 2020?
2022
awesome, sketchy af but awesome
mud makes you more cautious
its funny how in that time that races where the gnarly shit
johnytequila1 Actually no
Back then there were minor competitions known as "technical downhills" or "extreme downhills" in courses full of roots and rocks. Riders used to crash a lot and people loved that. Sadly enough, now we only have "extreme downhills" :-(
I actually prefer these downhills, with perfectly rideable courses and pedaling sections. Today's downhills don't test stamina, don't test fitness, don't test much cornering...
Pierre Gonzalez People are sadists and the UCI for some reason has allowed the sadistic side of downhill to become the main one. Here in Spain you just cannot find smooth downhill trails in mountain resorts unless they're basically gravel roads. No "narrow but smooth" stuff, even the blue trails are full of holes, braking bumps and rocks!
Pierre Gonzalez WRONG! Just look at La Molina, Vallnord, Soldeu... Everything is full of bumps, roots and rocks, even the blue trails! Nowadays you're either a pro or you spend most of the time fighting the trail instead of riding it.
It's not the same. It's always lots of fun to ride actual downhill trails when they're smooth. My complain is mainly about mountain resorts and how they don't take care of trails.
Ralenty
omg todays dh tracks are much harder
No issues with assembly for me th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
They look like they're riding kids bikes.
I wonder where is Trek?
trek was not really doing anything dh back then. Gary fisher and trek tried super hard to Market the Y bike Y11 Y22 Y33 and the fishers were aluminum versions.
I never like the Y bikes
@@endurotruckererniedesjardins Trek Y bikes were eye candy. That is why they were on that show "Pacific Blue".
@@Jeremyrockjock The Y Bikes were so hype back then. It's funny because I went to a bike shop back in the 90s were there was these people were talking about it. I heard someone say "it's a turd".
those bike looks like 26 wheels
yup 26 inch was the normal. for free ride lots of guys in bc ran a 24inch rear with a 3.0 tire and a 26x2.4 up front. most common gh tire sizes was 26x2.35. Hayes disc brakes were very new and lots of us were afraid to give up our V brakes lol. it was funn
Ernie Desjardins were the disc brakes at those times already hydraulic or cable controlled? 🙂🚴🏼♂️ thanks
@@lancetah hydraulic brakes were still at their infancy at the time I think
The course looks more like todays enduro courses then a dh track
Looks more like a cross country course
looks like a mtb course....
Those skinny tyres :-/
Tiny bikes....
if i was competing in the 90s dh i would win first place
GamingWith Ian no you would not
Absolutely NOT!
You'd have to do it with bikes of the era which aren't very good for downhill. Guaranteed OTB for sure.
@@HelloThere-wn9rb I mean if I bring a modern bike and compete in that era
@@possibly8180 yeah if I use those old bikes I would OTB for sure
ça ne rigolais vraiment pas !!
What a crappy track
This isnt happening at 1999! Cheaters
