wow...have gone all cold......I am 48 and still the Roses affect me...I flew from Perth Australia for the first gig at Heaton Park last June and a day and night I will take to the grave
As a man approacing 40 years of age and a Roses fan of over 20 years, this brought me to tears. A very emotive performance and video. A superb interpretation of a beautiful song. If I may be so bold, any chance of your version of "There is a light that never goes out"? Well done, superb stuff.
Can remember the first time I heard Made of Stone. It almost felt like yesterday. When the chorus kicked in, I think it was probably one of the most beautiful and emotional life events I had even up to this day. Thanks for playing and putting your heart into it. Listening to this reminded me of that day.
I've never left a comment before but when you come across the best video on TH-cam then I guess it would be rude not to! This is just sheer class in every department. Haunting, eerie, poignant, nostalgic, magical, moving etc..... I've watched this over & over and it grabs my attention just as much now as it did the first time I saw it. If Brown,Mani,Squire&Reni saw this they would be the first to shake your hand. Don't wanna sound like Andy Gray but....."Take a bow, son !!!!!!"
Thanks for comments! Memories of ...dodgy planks across the canal, beautiful hot day, Reni hats everywhere, everyone smoking and chilling in groups, anticipation, and a phenemonal band we will all never forget.
I wasn’t at Spike Island but attended Glasgow Green , and yes I look back at all you beautiful people with flares and mop top hair and sun hats and Remember we were part of something real. This piece makes me cry at how good it was as now the music scene in Britain is on its arse
Spike Island was the greatest thing I'll ever remember. If I can, red hot, bongo drummers, huge joints and fireworks but brilliant atmosphere. Made Of Stone, Beautiful, video upset me. Thank you. With respect.
Everyone I know who went said it was crap. The wind took the sound onto the Mersey, sounded awful, but the music was secondary it was a time and place. Your lucky mate. I'm 5 years too young..
i wish the roses would have done a 20 th anniversary show, as i was gutted not to be at spike island, what a year that was, with madchester, baggy jeans, italia '90, top tunes, rave on!
Simply breathtaking. A piece of me will always be there. The 20th aniversary is coming up. Lets all buy this and get it to number one. Sunset Sunday forever. Peace & love, E's & whizz.........
I walked over the big bridge on that day on the way to the gig, so the memories flooded back right at the beginning & I wore the same shirt you have at the end. To cap it off the music is an amazing achievement! Thankyou
This version is awesome, fanx! I just saw TSR live in Auckland last week and they were amazing, awesome psychedelic and rocking concert. The crowd were dancing and singing every song, but the biggest and loudest sing-alongs were saved fot this one. At the end of the concert Mani said "Good one Auckland, sorry if we took 20 bloody years to get here" (^__^)
awesome piece of music, happy memories of a very hot sunday, a town drank out of beer and one of the best days of my life. Great video, thank you for reminding me of sunset sunday. one love.
Lovely video, and great piano work. Really evocative for me. I have returned many times since the Roses gig on 27 May 1990, and this video captures the bleak beauty of the place. Thinking of Seán Murray RIP, who I went to see the Roses with.
thank you thank you thank you. it made me cry with gratitude. im so glad i was 15 in 1990. the roses are part of my make up.you dont know how much this has touched me. it made my day.
i now live in Widnes and was there on that day in May. Ive been down there for the first time in 21 year with my 1 year old son. God, what id give to be 18 again and there dancing to the roses! Go my HP ticket for Friday. BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!
Great work Richard! I taught myself bass initially by learning the whole of 'The Stone Roses'. I was at Spike Island with my sister and some mates. We were at the front and nearly died twice from a)J.Wobbles lung dislodging basslines and b)from being trampled during the first 4 Roses numbers! Hot day, heated atmosphere, completely disorganised, crap beer tent, Roses came on after a REALLY long break, totally brilliant! Spike Island, horrific, perfect.
what a great cover...very haunting, yet beautiful....instantly thought of a shane meadows film, and oddly enough,i heard he had been filming the roses at heaton park.
Wow! I am pleasantly surprised by this interpretation of one of my favourite Stone Roses songs. Well done indeed. This is great. (fun to play on guitar as well as the chords are simple enough)
This is wonderful.I always thought it would be a great idea to break great songs down like this.Proper tunes.Excellent job,you should make a cd I would purchase definitely man.
As you already know this is great. Get an album together and I will buy it. The strong melodies of the Roses lends itself well to your chosen instrument. .......Dont stop!
Absolutely stunning. Gives a sense of poignancy when interspersed with the images of where one of the greatest bands to emerge from the UK reached the top of their game...only for it to end in disaster six years later at Reading.
As I started listening to this, I thought, "How will he be able to capture the euphoric lifting chorus with just a piano?". It turns out you didn't need to; your interpretation of the chorus was brilliant and innovative. You just gave me what I didn't know I wanted, and that's my definition of art. I even watched the video to the end before writing this comment, because even the images were well done.
Fucking amazing, absolutely love this, sends shivers down you listening to this. Would be perfect for a Shane Meadows movie this, would have fitted perfect in Dead mans shoes
love the sound and the video, just wondered why the beginning of the video ,you are going from the widnes side of the bridge to Runcorn, opposite way from spike island,i lived in widnes a long time and was at spike island that day !! otherwise awesome video
This has just blown me away, very moving.
30 years today. Long live the Roses.
wow...have gone all cold......I am 48 and still the Roses affect me...I flew from Perth Australia for the first gig at Heaton Park last June and a day and night I will take to the grave
Mad what music does. I travelled to the same gig on a tram that took 30mins!! We both went for the love of the music.
Seriously, this is what TH-cam was made for!!!! For brilliant sh*t like this! Thanks man this is awesome.
Well said

I was 17 at this gig and lived in Penketh, just down the road. This will always be one of the best days of my life!

Simply breathtaking. A piece of me will always be there. The 20th aniversary is coming up. Lets all buy this and get it to number one. Sunset Sunday forever. Peace & love, E's & whizz.........

Thought the original was amazing but this is out of my world

If you find everything in ,above and around you is a hurricane of chaos; sit ,close your eyes ,listen with your heart and be still x
best song ever
Watching this makes you realise what an absurd place to put a large scale concert on! Madness! Gareth Evans suggestion I believe
That version was a lot more poignant than the original, 5 stars, utterly brilliant mate
Actually now that I think, I never went to Spike Island at all. I was thinking of Showaddywaddy live at Crewe Lyceum Theatre.
Spike Island is an island off the coast of Cork in Ireland....it was a borstal in the 1970's

That was amazing I could listen to a whole album of similar stuff, (Ker-ching)
