I've had one for a while now. One of my favorites, no lie. It's got a thing to it that nothing else I have has... including the Gibson Les Paul Special DC Faded... or whatever they call it. I did expensive mods to that one, and I love it. But this one goes just a little further into awesome territory.
Sounds great! I just bought this guitar from Sweetwater based on this review! Should arrive next week!
I think this has always been the gibson that is most interesting. I actually had the epiphone version that was really light mahogany around 5.5 lbs. something about p90s is very expressive and female voice sounding.
Love your playing! Cool songs
I own 3 LP's, a Honey Standard, a TV Yellow Special (P-90;s) and a Brown Special with a belly cut, small trapezoid inlays and Humbuckers and you are so right about them sitting on a stand and one of them calling out to you. For me it's the Brown Special.... many many more tones out of the Standard but Brownie is like my Wand.
P90 Les Paul and Orange Amp is perfect for me , it just works
I bought this guitar about 9 months ago, purely on impulse, it’s become my #1 guitar. Super comfortable, can’t get a bad sound out of it and it looks killer. The hum can be a problem at certain venues but for the most part I don’t notice it. Great review!
Nice review. I bought a Deep Purple one. Sounds awesome. Has a little orange peel finish at the neck where it meets the body but as you said, not returning it. Sounds great and just little cosmetic issue.
This music store near me had one sitting around for months. I'd go in and play it all the time. Wish I had bought it but I was a broke college student at the time.
I have one of these and I really like it. To me it's a lot more comfortable than the my LP Standard sitting down because of the lack of the carved top. The frets on these definitely feel smaller than my other Gibson's too, they feel really good though. Honestly, if you like P-90 pups and you like Gibsons in general this model is a no brainer. I have the SG Special too which is like five an three quarter pounds too. I love that one as well but I'm also biased towards SG's, they are my favorite model here.
Great review as always, thanks.
I'm not a performer, I just dabble in guitar because it brings me great pleasure. I guess the word "hack" would really fit. That said, I've owned Gibson, Fender, PRS, and Gretsch guitars. The Gibsons are the ones I keep going back to. Just something about the feel and sound that speaks to me. Are they grandpa guitars? I don't think any more than many other guitars. Buddy Holly played a Strat so are those grandpa guitars too? Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys played a Rickenbacker 360, so are Rickys also grandpa guitars? Because my grandpa drove a Chevy and I drive a Chevy does that make Chevy a grandpa's car? In the end who cares what everyone else thinks of your preference. Play what you like. I've not owned the Gibson Les Paul Special, but I do own the Epiphone Les Paul Special. It's a fantastic guitar. If I had to guess, the Gibson Les Paul Special pickups are probably brighter and more full. But if price is an issue, you can't go wrong with the Epi version. I do have trouble taming the hum at higher volumes or gain settings. Might try a noise gate to see what that does. Rock On!
Special and Junior all the way and the Junior really kicks some serious But.
Thank you for giving us both clean and dirty sounds. Rumour has is that if a player comes down on the volume-at the guitar, not the amp-p90s can send out warm clean & clear sounds. I’ve not purchased one yet, so this is a “must know” pre-purchase for me. I’m attracted to the walnut Special Tribute made in USA. I’ve been oggle-ing these like… you’d think it was a girl I have a crush on 😂. When both pick-ups are engaged, does that “dual-ness” eliminate 60-cycle hum ?
First answer: Most guitars will clean up once the Volume is reduced, P90s tend not to darken as much as Humbuckers. Lots of people use that trick with single channel amps. Second Answer: With Both Pickups engage you will still hear the 60 cycle hum. The pickups aren't out of phase with each other, so to speak, so there is still a hum. Cheers -Ryan
Nice video! What's the weight?
If you are ever curious on the weight of a “Currently Available” guitar. Head to Sweetwater. They list all of the weights for their available guitars. Cheers -Ryan
You changed the name of the channel?!
Yeah about 4-5 Months ago. I always hated saying the old name. Wanted something generic sounding instead. Cheers -Ryan
is it TV yellow ? because it looks green...
This was answered in the first 13 seconds of the video: I’m partially colour blind. Unfortunately this guitar and my eyes seem to not get along. Cheers -Ryan
"Any good" is a lame click bait title. Unsubscribed from this nonsense.
Sad to see you go. I’d also recommend selecting “Don’t recommend Channel”. That way you won’t see any of the videos. Cheers -Ryan
why a title of a video is so upsetting I don’t get it
