2 years and the issue still persists. I thought I was doing something wrong. Nope, just riverside letting me down. The amount of time I’ve had to spend in post to edit these things is painfully annoying. It shouldn’t have to be like this….
I really appreciate the way you're grappling with these issues honestly in a way that puts your audience first (and also, maintains your audience's trust). Very helpful, and I bet it will do more to push them to improve things than complaints via support channels. This is one of those bugs that's likely very hard to diagnose.
Wow, I listened to this in its entirety and I feel relieved to know it's not happening to only me. I've had to do so much editing to make multi-guest podcasts sync! Thank you for bringing attention to this.
Thank you! You just saved me a ton of time & headache for an upcoming podcast. I just signed up for Riverside & did some testing with a friend before using it with a real podcast guest next week. The first thing I noticed was the drift & it had me scratching my head as to why everyone has been touting this platform. Who cares if it's pretty if, as you pointed out, the audio is out of sync or messy?! I'm so disappointed. I signed up for it in hopes of saving time, as I don't want to add that level of editing to the video portion of the podcast at this time. I was searching, to find out if it was just me, when I landed on your video. I really appreciate the time you took to post this. Your video looks beautiful, btw.
I happened to come across this video by accident, but I'm glad that I did, I also had some of the same experiences that you did. I found the CFR videos in the past used to sync perfectly with the WAV then one day it stopped.... it's becoming more and more frustrating to use Riverside. It's amazing what it can do when it works... It's unfortunate that it's even necessary to download separate audio and video files to begin with... in some cases, I've also found the WAV and MP4 to be out of sync... for the same speaker... and then there's the whole synchronization and inability to introduce an intentional delay for sync between camera and mic input... that's a separate issue, and one I can live with having to correct in FCPX... I'm glad someone out there has put this into video and talked about it... I truly hope to see improvement... but as time goes on, I find myself hoping for another solution....
Thanks for the honesty. Great video. I'll be honest. I'm new to editing and I have already experienced NOW in 2024 the drift issues. Why should I stay with Riverside if all I want is an easy solution for recording? I dropped ZOOM but now wonder if that is the right choice. The drift is very distracting and does take away from my followers experience. Not sure what to do now because all the information you provided is way beyond what I want to do with two podcasts to edit. Kudos back to you on this tutorial.
... in February 2023 the problem is still there ... Support doesnt understand that i have this issue. And i am happy that i found our video here because i thought that i do a mistake ...
I'm a new Riverside user in November of 2023 and the audio sync/drift issue is still a problem. I noticed it in any video recording on Riverside that is longer than a few minutes. You have to manually cut up the video file, detach the audio, and resync manually. It's a huge pain. I reached out to Riverside and they claimed it's due to my recording frame rate being different from the Riverside settings of 24 FPS. I record from a Canon EOS mii, so I can fix this on the camera, but I stream it to my computer via the Canon Web Stream app, which only has 30 or 60 FPS as options. Now I'm exploring the Elgato Camlink 4k, but now I'm worried using this won't even fix the issue. If anyone has any suggestions or updates, I'm all ears!
Jesus 2 years ago? It's still happening. And this was a video I uploaded. With NO external audio. Even THAT's drifting LOL. Is their work engine slow or is it like overloaded with everyone trying to edit online at the same time? I mean having an online editor is a mammoth task for a company... I'm quite frankly stunned they've managed to even pull it off. So that part is amazing and I love Riverside for that. But this is still happening.
Riverside is still having sync issues, but I found at least one fix for this. I was using riverside with Google Chrome, but when I switched to using Microsoft Edge during my recordings, the sync issues have (for now) disappeared. I'm not sure what the difference between the two are but its something to try to see if it works for others.
Hi Brian, thanks for the video, I feel your pain too! I thought I hadn't understood something in riverside and was doing it wrong....here is my work around for the way you are going to use Riverside.... In your post production suite, retime the longer video/audio stream(s) to the shortest, it avoids the drift building over the course of the recording, not to say it cant creep in during, but it minimises this becoming cumulative. You may already know about retiming in FCP..... Select the video, hit Command-R to give you a retime bar and you can drag end of the green bar to retime so the videos are the same length. Still not what we all really want but I hope that's useful, let me know what you think..
Thanks for this video! Can you specify which video option you're referring to when you say "use the .mp4 video that is NOT a CFR file" ? After a riverside session (Riverside Pro Plan) for each participant I only have two CFR video files available which are both MP4 files : 1) RAW video CFR MP4 and 2) RAW Synced video CFR MP4. Is there a different MP4 video file I should have of each participant that is NOT a CFR file? The only other video files are the Grid All Participant exported clips.
This is absolutely absurd. My friend and I did our very first recording through Riverside, and there is a 15 second gap between when his audio/video starts and when mine starts. I have no idea what to do, was told by the support staff that this would be resolved within 24 hours, and haven't heard anything since. What do you suggest? I'm losing my mind waiting with little hope that anything will be rectified.
Sorry not sure if this has been said in the comments or not, but there is an option to change the RAW audio to record in 48khz vs 44.1khz in Riverside's settings. - as a video editor for 15 years we always have issues when video (captured in 48khz) does not sync with 44.1khz wav audio tracked on a separate recorder. I noticed this setting in riverside a couple weeks ago after dealing with this drift issue, not considering this would be the problem, and I think this solves it. - was this a feature updated after this video last year? - I would propose that this could fix drift issues using the Mp4 video with WAV files. - if your WAV is in 44.1khz, commonly it just wont be in sync with a video file. The speed percentage difference between 44.1khz and 48khz is 0.91875. - You could speed up the 44.1 file to 100.10% and it gets it in closer sync too, if you didn't convert it to 48khz. Not sure if anyone has tried or mentioned that here yet. Cheers.
This is what I was thinking too. I noticed the 48/44.1 option in Riverside and saw another tutorial podcast that said you should always record your audio at 48k for 1080p video. So I changed the setting in Riverside to 48k, as well as on a digital audio recorder that we are feeding an auxiliary mic to. I had no drifting problems as long as all devices and Riverside are using the same setting.
@@KarenGilbertPerfumeMaking isn't that wild? Like, why would they create a technical limitation that actually hurts the UX for free users. I don't see how the option to change it should be tiered. Makes no sense. 48khz doesn't make it "higher" quality. It's totally functional based on what's being recorded. Sorry free users. 😥
@@SPRINGTIDECREATIVE Exactly. - Audio only purpose in 44.1 WAV is great RAW quality for podcasting, music recording, etc. But once you're syncing to video, you gotta go 48khz unless you're STREAMING. If you are streaming your show from Riverside, go 44. 1, because its less to decompress the files over web. - Since I commented previously I've produced 4 shows with video and audio from riverside in 48khz, with no audio drift issues.
Thanks for this. I believe the problem started when they launched the Magic Editor. It relies on the CFR files, so they're trying to push everyone towards using them. It's also worth noting that Riverside has been making a LOT of moves that suggest they're readying themselves for an acquisition by Spotify-I suspect that Riverside is focusing on creating features that integrate with Anchor, etc. instead of dealing with this huge sync/drift problem.
@@AudioforContentCreators I've noticed this too. It will be in sync for a few minutes and then all of the sudden it's out of sync. Then of course I have to go through every second of the video practically to edit the audio, let alone the fact that the video becomes pretty much unusable at that point.
@@AudioforContentCreators It's insane amount of money for the service and the recording audio with great video is why everyone uses it. This issue is ridculious. I swear as an early adopter I didn't have this issue.
I have been emailing the support teams back and forth for a few days now about this issue hoping it has been addressed since your video came out months ago. They have asked for the CFR track id from my sessions numerous times to "check" the lower quality audio but no one seems to want to admit it is not very good. I asked about the audio quality in the magic editor as well and this was the response from their team: -Editor - When a user records and audio-video recording and exports the file in the Editor, then the Editor will source the audio and video from the MP4 file. -Overlaying the WAV on the MP4 file - The development team is currently testing a new recorder on the platform to see if we can reduce the small duration differences between MP4s and WAVs that cause the sync issues. We are hoping the new recorder helps with the conversion of the raw files to reduce these duration differences. It seems they are working to resolve the sync issues with a new recorder they have developed but this is all I was able to get from them for now. I did receive an email this morning from their promotions department about them having a booth at the 2022 Dallas Podcast Movement, and they mentioned new updates they plan to roll out so hopefully this is addressed by then as well. I hope someone finds this helpful!
So many thoughts. The first being THANK YOU! I know explaining this is even harder than figuring out what’s happening and you did so very well. I’ve peeked the comments and see other platform suggestions. My question tho is: it’s been a month since you’ve posted this video. Pleaseeee tell me there’s been some positive updates since then??
Sounds great, good perspective and I've subscribed. I have to respectfully disagree with one take - if customer service is broken, that problem is not "less important." In fact, I'm finding this video a year removed from your original post, and customer service is still awful. Bad customer service is indicative of larger problems.
Sadly, the situation is even worse... the wav and mp4 are out of sync by a couple of frames. This isn't a big deal to fix. However, I now need to check this on every recording. I was really hoping for a smooth process with Riverside.... that isn't the reality. It's also surprising that they don't warn their new customers about this. I'd rather know about these issues up front and go right to the work arounds.
I’m so glad you did this video. I have experienced much of the same. I record a normal episode and an after show. We record up to 2 hours and I noticed it appears I’m stepping on the guest because the guest starts to drift. So frustrating.
I just signed up for the free plan to try it and yup the synch issues are still there. Customer support told me it was my device (a top-of-the-range Microsoft surface laptop) and to try a different one.
Hey Brian, have you had any more thoughts on this issue lately? Are you still just grinding through the issues, or have you moved to a new option? Hope you are well!
Thank you for this! I've been using this service since 2019 and it's gotten progressively worse each year. It's become embarrassing as I recommended this software to my company.
Here is another issue even just downloading the CFR clip its out of sync by about 4-6 frames. I have to separate the audio from the video in FCPX and move the audio forward 4-6 frames. I think this service may not work for us.
Have you done a test with audio set to 44khz and another session set to 48khz. I've just done a session at 48 and its all gone out of sync. I'm going to do my next session at 44 and see what happens. It's the only change I have made recently but need to confirm. It reminds me of the old days when we would have to set all cams and recorders to the same Hz to remove audio drift on multicam recordings.
I had to stop using Riverside and switch to Squadcast because of horrible drift issues in December 2021 where the host file and the guest file would be 1-2 seconds off by the end of a 45 minute interview. Support said there's no timeline for a fix for this ongoing issue which made me extremely concerned.
I've used it for a year and all of a sudden the platform just doesn't work. It takes way too long for the guest side to upload, and now it won't even record. What in the world? It used to be so good what in the world happened? Does anyone have a better platform to recommend? My subscription ends at the end of the month and I plan to change to a different one.
@AudioforContentCreators I just found this video because I am having that exact issue. And boy and I FURIOUS! Here it is a year since you've recorded this and Riverside hasn't addressed this issue. I just completed an interview with a guest located in Thailand and I can't use this as it is. I am trying to get this sync'd in DaVinci and if I cannot get this going by the end of today, I will reach out and try to do a do-over. (I'm wishing myself good luck on that). Like you, this isn't the first time I've used Riverside but, I believe it will be the last. I was totally unhappy with the support response I got. They seemed to pass the issue off to my guests' computer, etc. I know better, I am not a novice at this.😡
This is great! I just did an interview but my guest sound is so low and mine sounds like chipmunk in both the WAV and video. Any thoughts on why and how I can fix this?
I'm an early adopter of Riverside and for couple of weeks, it worked perfectly before various issues kept popping up. Over time through updates and customer service, a lot of issues have been solved. I still have to do a large amount of fixing during the editing phase but I'm hopeful for the future. Unfortunately, we now have live delay issues so now we can't stream or have guests until this has been solved but I'm hoping for a resolution from customer service soon.
Any updates on this issue? We have a multi-way training we're prepping for and had considered Riverside to record so we could later use for an on-demand product. Now having serious second thoughts...but, Zoom, ugh...really not loving that option either.
Awesome video. I’m having issues with the media sound bar? It will only play on thing. Anyone els? And I’ve found the riverside support page link dose not work now sadly.
This is really helpful - thanks for sharing. Am I correct in thinking this issue is only relevant if you want to record both video & audio - i.e. if recording audio only interviews then there is no synch/drift issue?
That's kind of untrue. My audio recordings have been very bad quality and I am here to figure out why, but not getting any answers as of now. My audio has abrupt pauses, vibrations, and weird fast forwards in ever 30 seconds of the recording. It was such an important podcast episode of mine and it seems like it's ruined.
Thank you for this throrough look at an issue I've been dealing with for a long time - have you tried Zencastr, Squadcast, Remotely or anything that does not have this issue? It really is bogging down my editing process :(
Yep ...me too. Even the CFR files get out of sync over the course of a one-hour video recording. Bummer ...I was so hopeful this was a good solution, but it seems not. Using the non-CFR MP4s combined with the Wav file seemed to resolve the issue. It makes me wonder what the CFR file is good for?
Alright, I stumbled upon this video because I recently started using Riverside and my audio/video are out of sync. However, I do not have this problem when I'm recording outside of the platform which tells me it has something to do with Riverside itself. i'm about halfway through your video now, and what if i'm picking up what you're putting down, it's more trouble than it's worth.
I am experiencing these issues very randomly - some guest interviews are perfect, others are immediately a huge syncing problem. I've struggled to get any help as to how to resolve from this video - maybe it's because it's almost one year old? I thought Riverside was a one-stop-shop to record, edit, and create marketing content? I don't want to be downloading separate files and editing in a different editing tool. I've been using it successfully for many of my recordings so I don't understand why on some it's completely out of timing. I pay to use one of their payment plans and believed I was buying a seamless podcast and editing solution?
Really appreciate this video thanks - it seemed really off with the comments about peoples experiences with Riverside - this video is very helpful thanks again PS Have you tried Zoom and Cleanfeed combo? So the audio is super good and the video is meh, but the experiments I have done seem to sync? (Plus its free!)
@@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for the kind reply ACC - I ticked Optimize for 3rd Party Video Editor in settings and its been surprisingly well behaved! It was a shock to me! Again, really appreciate your video thanks.
What happened?! It is April 2023 and this is the last video posted to your channel from May 2022? Maybe you started another channel? You have great content on this channel and I was looking for an update to these issues and what platform you are using for recording Podcasts now? I hope you are well my friend...
Thanks for the video! Have you also came across any issues with the live conversation sync. I am a professional podcast editor and one of my clients had a lot of issues with high latenyc during the meeting. Recently I was in a role of a podcast guest and recommended Riverside. After a few miunutes of the recording we noticed that we have aboutr 8 sec of latency, so we're nat able to talk fluently, so we switched to Google Meet and recorded the sound locally.
Hi. I'm a singer so I'm more interested in audio quality than convenience. Is there much of a difference in sound quality doing it this way as opposed to adding the vocal in post?? Thanks!
Hey, i have a question, can i use a Movo VXR10 for podcast while casting 4 people in the front of it in a table? (2 in each side and the mic in the end of the table)
Wow, I have reached out to customer service multiple times about these issues and they constantly make it seem like I'm the crazy person. They've even "looked" at some of my files and have told me they are synced just fine, even though they clearly are not. My last time I reached out to them with an update I figured out, I told them the mp4 is synced but the cfr isn't even close, and I never heard a single word back from them...
Thanks so much. I was about to sign up to Riverside but I’ll stick to Zoom and check out Ecam as I don’t have the tech skills or time to do FCP edits to fix the drift which would annoy the heck out of me.
The most frequent problem I have with Riverside is when the guest's computer just stops recording locally (who knows why, maybe they run out of memory), then it is the biggest PITA to go in and cut up the HD files with the backup files. I had the mother of all issues today when the guest's HD file was about 7% faster than my HD file, and CapCut only allows me to change the speed in increments of 10%, so I just went with the crappy backup files, but the audio was horrible and had cracks all throughout.
Everything you've said here is so important for Riverside customers and Riverside as a company. And I love that you have a 'direct' link to the leadership. I've saved this video, hoping to hear from you on some improvements. I just had my first issue (mind you, it seems to be have been as a result of the guest using an iPhone without shutting everything else in the background down.) Thanks for this update, I'm worried that as a result of one of you lower comments, you might be jumping ship, as I've bought a year membership, and can't jump ship really till November, but don't really want to, as I really like the Riverside platform and it's potential.
I'm hoping to have good news. In the interim, I'm exploring competitive options that may be able to address some of these issues. Stick with Riverside. I'll report back after I've done enough hands on research. I use products/services for professional, paid work before I review it. That's my bar: Would I trust this in a critical situation with a client?
I am a brand new host for a podcast and we are going to be using riverside. Any recommendations on what platform is best for me to edit the clips together? I am noticing that the clips are getting out of sync but know nothing about editing.
wow - such a bummer to see this video. I joined Riverside in Dec 2022, today I recorded my 5th episode and my guest and I had issues from the start "Your computer isn't allowing us to download" - I'd never seen that notification before! Decided to download the app on my iPhone, recording seemed to go smoothly...now I've got audio & video sync and drift issues. I've raved about Riverside for its ease of use, admittedly I'm not tech savvy. I don't even use Final Cut Pro, I have iMovie. I'm getting lost with the technical terms and not sure what to do =(
Thanks for this video! What about using the audio from the mp4 file? How does that compare in quality to the audio in the wav file? (I understand that this wouldn't fix the drift issue, I'm just curious if the extra step of using the wav file makes a difference)
Wow. Still having this issue! Sounds like I'm going back to zoom... The whole point of an investment in Riverside was twofold: to increase quality and save time. If I have to go in and correct it, then that's a gamebreaker.
Is there any chance you could put out a video or go live for a stream with some tips on how you edit around the audio drift issues? I’ve been editing a 3 person show and was having the exact issues you described. It’d be really helpful for someone like me that’s new Riverside and is getting pretty frustrated after making the switch over. Are you utilizing a shared view for your multi cam or cutting back and forth between your speakers?
I really like your approach and testing analysis. However, before they get the AI version to work, shouldn't Riverside fix the sync issues amongs the multiple guests? I am struggling, as a new user, to get decent quality video from my own computer and a lot of added complexity to get remote guests connecting. Zoom makes the interface a little bit easier, with asking guest to ensure Studio quality is checked, but not separate files. And sync or drift is never an issue. I then edit in Descript (Riverside's AI Magic) and dont worry about sync, just not so great video quality.
6 months from the date you uploaded this video and the issues are pretty freakin bad with Riverside. You are the reason I tried them in the first place, and it's not your fault they changed things and are saying they didn't change anything, but wow does it suck to have done one podcast that is a total mess I have to now clip and edit when thats not something I know how to do, nor have money for editing software. I highly do not recommend Riverside at all; unless you can clip and edit super fast and are experienced with drifting and audio issues that could take a newbie like me days or week to edit. I hope you take those out dated videos down. Please take those out dated videos down, it would really help people not waste their time.
I appreciate your honesty frfr u r not on there side just because your sponsorship. In general this is the way u should do in life. Hope we can get this fixed because I feel riverside is steps beyond these others. I had the same issue with streamyard so it took me back to zoom.
Have already decided to move onto Streamyard. The idea around Riverside is good, but if the tech does not work, what’s the use. Rather than add more bells and whistles fix the stuff that is important
Did the update fix it? Mine was so bad I had to revert to Zoom. They tried blaming it on my computer. I have a jacked MacBook 16 Max, so I think if a $5000 laptop doesn’t have the juice…
I'm brand new to podcasting and you just saved me a lot of frustration. What do you suggest for someone new like me. No experience with audio or video.
Zoom. Hit record and focus on the conversation. Commit to the practice of podcasting and simply getting comfortable, then good. I've got a cheap Launch Your Podcast in 7 Days if you need some extra motivation and direction: audio.info
Just discovered your channel because I was doing research on the best platform for a video podcast interview show I’m planning to launch later in the year and you have great content, thank you! Any thoughts on Boomcaster as an alternative? Seems like a very similar product and Boomcaster brags about their high quality audio and video. Have you looked into it?
Mp4 with Raw. That's what we have been doing, but! Yes it does drift, and you just have to fix it here and there. So it sounds as if you need to take the mp4 vid and remove the audio from it, and add the raw audio for a sync.
We have been using riverside for a while and find 95% of it really great however we have video dropping out during recording. For example we'll start recording between the two of us on our podcast, things start out great then at my end using my Samsung s21 phone he drops out so we record having a conversation without me being ab le to see him. Any help??!!
I just subscribed to Riverside and haven’t even used it yet. But after watching this video, for people like me who care about the audio more than the video - and only use the video for promos- here’s a pitch. Do you think this would work. Edit the whole podcast audio only with the raw wave files. Then and only then, synch the crm video files with the final audio edit. Since the video clip will be at most 60 seconds, the video adjustment work would be minimal.
Man, I just recorded a podcast the other day and both the CFR and MP4 are completely out of sync past the first few seconds. I've tried to sync all the options in FCP but noticed the original download from Riverside was even unsynced. Super frustrating. Do you think this is a server issue from Riverside? How could a local recording be out of sync from the get go. I see Squadcast finally has beefed up their video side so I'm going to give it a shot and see if it's any better than Riversides current offerings
@@kendallfinlay6573 Their new update didn't work well for me unfortunately. They may have fixed the sync issues but the video platform was completely unstable
My RiversideFm experience has been super challenging and have had to cancel several guest during the live interviews. The internet service would disable having poor connection in the middle of the interview, the screen quality was poor, I could not hear the guest and sometimes the full video files would not upload. It’s been extremely frustrating for me especially in-front of a guest to ask them to switch to zoom just to finish the interview!!
I actually had terrible terrible customer service with riverside about a year ago when I first started out using them. I ended up elevating a technical issue to one of their Devs, and ever since I have had much better customer service. It does seems like they have been better in general.
I've been having sync issues every podcast. They are starting to do just cookie cutter responses in their support emails that are irrelevant to the problem. It's like they are starting to give up.
Two of my latest podcasts are ruined because of sync issues. Just like you another person gets back to me with a solution that is not a solution. Still, my audio is wrong. It is so embarrassing to tell my guests that their podcast was ruined. I’m not happy, and am going to be jumping to another platform soon.
Thank you for acknowledging this irritating inconvenience. Fixing the drift can be time consuming 🙄 Any news about live editing options being added to the platform?
We moved to Riverside and unfortunately... it's just caused SO many more problems than it's helped. I loved how high quality it was but I don't have capacity to spend hours and hours re-editing my video podcasts the audio. Also experienced some weird voice things, in which my voice sounds higher pitch. Moving back to Zoom and need to find a way to generate the clips quickly!

ok this video is a year old....and the issue STILL remains. Goodbye Riverside FM
2 years now
2 years and the issue still persists. I thought I was doing something wrong. Nope, just riverside letting me down. The amount of time I’ve had to spend in post to edit these things is painfully annoying. It shouldn’t have to be like this….
Watching this right now, over two years later, because I still have the same issues. Sigh.
Dude, I was losing it. I am so glad to have found this video. So helpful. Still seeing drift issues on Riverside. Infuriating....
Cheers.
great insight thanks. Unfortunately on the free plan that option isn't available so it looks like everyone on a free plan will be having that issue
@@SPRINGTIDECREATIVE I had problems with the correct setting. So it seems it does not play a role.
Having same issues. 3000 emails from different people. Constant sync issues.
My recording today is completely out of sync.
It's a really big problem and a lot of people are bailing. I'll continue exploring in a series of videos.
@@AudioforContentCreators any updates?
I have been emailing the support teams back and forth for a few days now about this issue hoping it has been addressed since your video came out months ago. They have asked for the CFR track id from my sessions numerous times to "check" the lower quality audio but no one seems to want to admit it is not very good. I asked about the audio quality in the magic editor as well and this was the response from their team:
-Editor - When a user records and audio-video recording and exports the file in the Editor, then the Editor will source the audio and video from the MP4 file.
Really hope they fix this soon. Someone from out network is stopping by their tent at Podcast Movement to chat
Absolutely no word from Riverside at this time.
I just noticed how long ago this was posted and it’s still not fixed. Ugh. May be time to try streamyard?
Squadcast is another alternative.
@@AudioforContentCreators Thank you! I've been looking at StreamYard as well. I appreciate your reply. Planning on posting more content?
October 2024….still syncing issues
I was going to sign up today but thanks. I really don’t want those headaches.
Is there an updated resolution for this problem? 🤞
Yep I feel the same way. Super disappointing. I can't endorse it in its current state.
Have there been any improvements to this problem?
Dude... I just watched this whole thing thinking it was from this week. Sooo glad it's in the past.
Would you do an updated video on this?
Here is another issue even just downloading the CFR clip its out of sync by about 4-6 frames. I have to separate the audio from the video in FCPX and move the audio forward 4-6 frames. I think this service may not work for us.
Two years later and still same
Issue.
Thanks for this Brian. I’m brand new to RFM. Are you still experiencing the same issues in this video and is the workaround still the same?
I had to stop using Riverside and switch to Squadcast because of horrible drift issues in December 2021 where the host file and the guest file would be 1-2 seconds off by the end of a 45 minute interview. Support said there's no timeline for a fix for this ongoing issue which made me extremely concerned.
We are recording our remote episodes in Riverside and this is still a major issue as of today.
Thanks for making this video. I thought I was going crazy as an audio engineer...
Thanks, I almost started on riverside. Looked like I should find others now.
I'm considering a switch to Riverside - is this still an issue?
April 2024 and I'm getting Clip tracks are taking too long to load, try refreshing. Got an email. No fix yet. Can finish the video rendering.
Has this issue been resolved yet? It's been almost 5 months. By the recent comments it seems that it's still an issue.
Not as far as I know.
That's correct.
I had sync drift issues on audio only on long recordings. Drifting occurred 50 minutes or more into the audio recording.
Thank you for this throrough look at an issue I've been dealing with for a long time - have you tried Zencastr, Squadcast, Remotely or anything that does not have this issue? It really is bogging down my editing process :(
I haven't used anything else... yet. Stay tuned ;)
Same
Yep ...me too. Even the CFR files get out of sync over the course of a one-hour video recording. Bummer ...I was so hopeful this was a good solution, but it seems not. Using the non-CFR MP4s combined with the Wav file seemed to resolve the issue. It makes me wonder what the CFR file is good for?
is this still an issue? getting ready to start using Riverside. what is best workflow for high quality edits/final cuts?
Really appreciate this video thanks - it seemed really off with the comments about peoples experiences with Riverside - this video is very helpful thanks again
PS Have you tried Zoom and Cleanfeed combo? So the audio is super good and the video is meh, but the experiments I have done seem to sync?
(Plus its free!)
Zoom records at variable frame rates. It should not sync with Cleanfeed. I'm shocked that you find it does.
@@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for the kind reply ACC - I ticked Optimize for 3rd Party Video Editor in settings and its been surprisingly well behaved! It was a shock to me!
Again, really appreciate your video thanks.
@@neilmossey That's great! Good to know.
Yeah, it's not great lately.
June 29th, 2024 and the problem is STILL here! NOT in sync...headaches...Should I go back to Zoom?
I just had my first issue (mind you, it seems to be have been as a result of the guest using an iPhone without shutting everything else in the background down.)
Thanks for this update, I'm worried that as a result of one of you lower comments, you might be jumping ship, as I've bought a year membership, and can't jump ship really till November, but don't really want to, as I really like the Riverside platform and it's potential.
What kind of compressor or condenser did you use for your voice in this video? Sounds good and I suck at editing.
Just EQ and gentle compression on my mixing board. Nothing applied in post. Check out audio101.info for my audio course for beginner content creators.
I'm getting lost with the technical terms and not sure what to do =(
any updates on this? sounds like a nightmare. about to record an interview tomorrow with riverside. how does zencastr compare?
Thanks for this video! What about using the audio from the mp4 file? How does that compare in quality to the audio in the wav file? (I understand that this wouldn't fix the drift issue, I'm just curious if the extra step of using the wav file makes a difference)
I’ve been running into a TON of issues with that. The audio drifts so far off the video and it’s annoying.
Yes, multi cam view in FCPX. I did a tutorial on how I do these edits. But I can do an update to show how I deal with drift.
@@AudioforContentCreators That would be a super helpful tutorial and make Riverside less frustrating to work with in terms of the sync & drift issues
2024 is this still and issue for people???
Yes. I'm here because of this problem.
Given that it’s July now, are there any updates on a fix or have things improved? Thanks for all the info so far
No updates as far as I know.
Very frustrating. Thought the platform would simplify editing but it’s ended up complicating things. Are there any better alternatives?
@@AudioforContentCreators thank you. The link will not open.
Haven't even heard of it!
For example we'll start recording between the two of us on our podcast, things start out great then at my end using my Samsung s21 phone he drops out so we record having a conversation without me being ab
le to see him.
Truly saddening. I live Riverside, but this makes zoom and Teams seem more worth it. Hopefully they fix it soon
Has all of this gotten better? I'm getting ready to choose between Riverside and Zencastr.
No change with Riverside. It's still garbage for video
I'm currently testing Squadcast as well.
Hey AJ! Any word on your experience with Squadcast just yet? Was thinking about checking them out too
@@kendallfinlay6573 Their new update didn't work well for me unfortunately. They may have fixed the sync issues but the video platform was completely unstable
Is Squadcast having these same issues?
My RiversideFm experience has been super challenging and have had to cancel several guest during the live interviews. The internet service would disable having poor connection in the middle of the interview, the screen quality was poor, I could not hear the guest and sometimes the full video files would not upload. It’s been extremely frustrating for me especially in-front of a guest to ask them to switch to zoom just to finish the interview!!
Super frustrating.
Any update on this issue?
I actually had terrible terrible customer service with riverside about a year ago when I first started out using them. I ended up elevating a technical issue to one of their Devs, and ever since I have had much better customer service. It does seems like they have been better in general.
Have they done anything to improve this?
I've been having sync issues every podcast. They are starting to do just cookie cutter responses in their support emails that are irrelevant to the problem. It's like they are starting to give up.
as of August 2022, the sync and drift issues are getting worse.
Is this still an issue? Anyone know?
Two of my latest podcasts are ruined because of sync issues. Just like you another person gets back to me with a solution that is not a solution. Still, my audio is wrong. It is so embarrassing to tell my guests that their podcast was ruined. I’m not happy, and am going to be jumping to another platform soon.
Thank you for acknowledging this irritating inconvenience. Fixing the drift can be time consuming 🙄 Any news about live editing options being added to the platform?
I haven't heard anything.
