Will be difficult 2020 is one of the strongest release years in 21st century. We have Sepultura's Quadra, Lamb of God's s/t and they are better than ever. Who knows what surprises we will get in the remaining 3 months

I disagree, this album is not their peak. TSATS was their peak and this album is not nearly as good as Ascendancy, TSATS, In waves, The crusade, and Shogun IMO This is one of their weaker albums
This song kinda feels like a mix between the Ascendancy album and the In Waves album. Great song. I’ve been enjoying this song. Same with Sickness Unto You, which is amazing.
I agree, BIG Ascendancy vibes on this song. I also love the key changes that happen during the guitar solo and the final chorus. This song, “Sickness Unto You”, and the title track (with the opening interlude IX included) are my favorite songs from this album.
I was up at midnight just refreshing everything waiting for this album to drop and holy shit man! This is definitely up there with some of their best work. Sickness Unto you is next, my favorite off the album, and probably in my top 5 songs by Trivium now. Look forward to seeing your thoughts on it!

This reminds me of the first 3 albums including ember to inferno. I love how many different styles there is in this album, it’s like a career retrospective plus added stuff! Fkn awesome stuff!

Let me say... THIS album is going to overcome the past's album like Ascendacy, Shogun... and I think also The Sin and the Sentence. I know that it's stupid to say that this new album will overcome the previous staff... It's an evolution of a band and of its music. WOW. A true masterpiece in my opinion!
I'm the newest Trivium fan in the world right now. I listened all their stuff except from Vengaence Falls atm and this is ONE OF THEIR BEST. I can speak objectively because i just got into the band. Get past your borders guys. 1. Shogun 2. TSATS 3. Ascedancy 4. This album for me atm. I love this and Amongst the Shadows and the Stones so much.
Even before i listened to it, it reminded me of ascendancy. Just the title 'The Defiant' reminded me of the Decieved, Departure and Declaration. Then after listening, yeah, the song could have easily been on Ascendancy. Great track
The Defiant has the best chorus in the album, and yeah it has a lot of Ascendancy vibes in it. The best part i liked in this song was the key change at the solo sections until the last chorus.

Is it me or the peak of new era of metal (after 2000) was near 2006 then it went down to hill (ofcourse there is here and then good albums) But i got the feeling 2019-2020 is bringing back The core of metal musicians again of making amazing music again for this era Bands like as i lay dying, architects , august burns red , childrrn of the bodom ( final album) (which was a good retirement) demon hunter, slipknot, lacuna coil, sylosis, korn , killswitch engage, tool, heaven shall burn, trivium ,unearth , war of ages while she sleeps, etc are delivering amazing albums lately I think its because the digital era and internet it kinda ruined aloy of creativity , artists became overrated Metal felt like is was becoming like pop (Cosumable rather than enjoying it atless for me)
Yep. Not only was there are key change at the final chorus, but there was one during the lead part (in my initial comment, I said solo instead of lead) before the main solo kicked in. That was a nice surprise! I love key changes; most of the time, they just take the song up to a whole ‘nother level, y’know; even in places where you usually wouldn’t expect them to be.
