By far the best demo you have done so far, it's nice to see how you've improved and added elements to your own work and style over time. This looks great. Getting that full budget commercial look now.
Lighting on Lynn is so sublime yet effective. Of course I'm going to steal this set up! 🙄 itd be great if did a steo by step pocket book. Id buy it in a heartbeat.
This was hilarious and the whole video was great! I got excited when I saw the Lew Potts reference at the start.. I was hoping he was going to show up.... Great video and breakdown! Keep up the great work! 👍🏾
Great video, Thomas! So much to like about this one. Color Temp vs WB: You mentioned a color temp of 3200K for the lights. Plus the use of the unbleached muslin. What were your WB settings in camera?
bro using reverse psychology like a magician here. Very magical content I have to admit. You are like the wizard of light mixed with the lord of the shadows.
You mentioned how long it took to set up at the beginning of the video, but I’m curious to know more about how long setups /should/ take. I ask because I was recently on a set where a lot of the shots were taking, what I felt, was too long. But at the same time, I understand the DP wanting to get the lighting perfect. However, it felt like we ended up scrapping a bunch of shots, and it felt like we were just getting basic coverage by the end of the day just to meet our goal of filming the right amount of pages. I know there’s no cut and dry formula for how long setups should take, but I’m curious on what your opinion is about the length of time that a cinematographer should take on each setup. What’s a good average page count per day should we be aiming for as a production company, etc.?
The amount of preparation work that goes into the lighting and scene setups really blocks a lot of talented people to get started with their video journey
to be honest lighting is Subjective its like painting , you canvas will look different than someone elses thus its not a right or wrong way, as long as you know the "Rules" as in how to make light soft , hard, and color ....
@@YoungBlaze although that is true, we kind of have the generalization of what we perceive as “cinematic lighting” or “mainstream professional look” which still makes you go in a kind of direction to achieve your goal. At the end of the day 99% of videography is displaying and waking up specific types of emotions to and from your viewer.. And that can only be done with the right lighting and color psychology … combined with the sound/cam movememt/compositions and so on..
Sweet video and channel...love the light...Question, with all the different lights and color temps, I am assuming you set the WB in camera to the key light for her? I am always confused how that works when there's various colored lights in background etc ...Thanks!!
Usually I split the difference but not always. If the face is 3200 and the background is 5600 I’ll choose a 4300 or so… but every project is different.
The ultimate Guide ? Me finding the answer 2 minutes into the video : get rich and buy all Aputure lights possible. Just kidding, been loving your content man, keep up with the good work !
I believe I just realised something. You can get that same booklight effect by using massive umbrellas that bounce the light and diffuse it internally and use them in parallel to each other
Setup is great and Unbleached mus is hard to beat! Curious why you have it in 20x20 though. That’s usually something only a larger grip truck would have.
I'm experimenting with shooting food and cooking, got some lights but I just hate white light, it just doesn't feel natural. How would you proceed to make it warmer without adding too much to the budget (the magic cloth is way too expensive and I can't get it in France)? Gels of any kind on the light? Cheating with white balance (afraid of getting strange colors on food)? Any suggestion? Should I unsubscribe to get a better natural light?
HELP!!! I followed the instructions but because I was already unsubscribed it actually subscribed me instead! Cheers from Arizona....about 30 minutes from your studio :)
What ever you do - the world needs to keep you and Potato Jet apart - if this happens - the world just might come to an end - or Deakins would throw you out of the club! One of the two.
I will NOT unsubscribe. I just refuse to watch any of your videos. Like this one. I'm sure Lynn is thrilled that you make her look so fantastic on screen. Oh wait... that's *despite* all your work ;) Seriously though (ahem), I wonder how much of this look could be achieved with a more minimal setup? Not to downplay this fantastic setup, just as a mental exercise... The prob for me is always getting a strong enough source to afford losing a good portion of it in diffusion. Even more with a booklight type setup that you seem to have here.
You making it really hard not to subscribe to your channel. Everytime I see content from you I'm like "damn I pushed subscribe again!". Gonna talk to my psychiatrist about that lack of impulse control.
Honestly guys (looking at you Thomas) I don’t know how Lynn still works here. Hasn’t Armando Ferreira or Potato Jet offered her a job yet? Seriously she could do so much better than Epic Light Media.
One outside of the window with the 2x fresnel and barndoors, one going through a 1 stop diffusion blanket in the front and a bounce for the fill light. Won't be as soft and detailed as this setup of course, but it's a good start I'd say
Hello Epic light media. Thank you for your amazing videos. I am from West Africa, Sierra Leone and your videos have helped me to achieve a lot in creative directing. However, and I pray you take this well, please STOP TELLING PEOPLE NOT TO SUBCRIBE. I honestly believe that you could have reached a million subscribers by now. With your level of content, you can easily lead this TH-cam game with your awesome videos. But please stop the seeming reverse psychology thing; it is slowing your TH-cam subscriber numbers.
Maybe it's just me, and the way my mind works, but every time I hear someone repeat phrases like "be sure to ... and click on that ..." I automatically tune out, it doesn't even register in my brain. If anything, I scrub forward a few seconds... I honestly think if people want to watch your material, they will watch it, and if they want to KEEP watching it, they will subscribe. No amount of telling them to do so (or not to) will influence their decision - just my opinion.
Loved this breakdown! I’m curious how you would light an intimate dinner scene similar to this. Would you use the same approach or another method. th-cam.com/video/i5QZEpd4JEg/w-d-xo.html
Great video, but why didn’t you just open the curtain to let the natural light in so you could save all that time to focus on the story? If you keep contradicting yourself in these videos I’ll be forced to subscribe 😂
A lot of work, but the shot was definitely worth it! Very “Lewis Pottsish”, but you certainly made it your own. Ps: I ALWAYS unsubscribe….only to resubscribe.
Looks so good Thomas!!
Thanks for the shoutout too🤠
A creepy shout out haha
I like how you're not going way overboard with lights and stands and keep it minimal so people can relate.
just for that , IM SUBSCRIBING
I had the same feeling! On a related note, I need more Aputure lights!
I like this dude a million... Buuuuuuuuuut, I gotta agree with the sentiment. I wanna see this exact same video done with only 2 Aputure ls60d's
Ya my jaw hit the floor when he said 'poor man's version' 🤔
@@DavidGriffin It.... won't be. You physically cannot achieve the same look with 2 lights.
Reminds me of the key to a lasting relationship, sincerity...
Learn to fake that and you're good!! :D
This is a hilarious and quasi-baller setup… great soft lighting to emphasize Lynn’s facial featured, including the nose. Detail, detail, detail
He said "quasi-baller" - LMAO!

And to the world of unsubscribing
This channel is so underrated. So much good things to learn here. ✌️
Very realistic, practical, achievable, reachable, affordable, thank you!
Great video! Can you please post a link to the camera slider you guys used. Thanks!

Color Temp vs WB:

4300 I think but it probably changes closer to 3200 in post in camera

great job ! you are one of my favorite film school ! send you love from Greece ! keep making us better

This is bonkers good. The lighting looks beautiful.
Excellent lighting! So good.
These sets of lights are worth more than my life.
Moral of the story: rent 100 lights if you don't already have them to light up a living room scene.

How good is the C70 though!? Woah!
We love your sense of humor! Keep it up... oh yeah good tutorial as well 😝
Thanks!!!!
my favorite chanel video Looks very good don't you mind leave the link for this slider please .
Thats a lot of lights 😳 what a work 👌🏻
The beginning of this video is EXACTKLY what Lynn would do on her OWN youtube channel...
If i look to this than there is no easy setup for good quality commercials.
That is SIR Roger Deakins to you! And while we're on the subject...
Good job convincing Lynn to come back
Do a C70 vs Blackmagic video!
Great video. Looks very good and your delivery style is entertaining and enthusiastic.
A very underated channel 💯💯👌👌👌
It just amazes me the detail of the work that goes into the set creation. Your work is just incredible. PS: Lynn is just beautiful

how does the c70 compare to the ursa?
Awesome lighting but how many lights and I counting GOSH
can u do it with just 2 light? or.. what can i do with just 1 amaran 100d, and 50 dollars softbox?
What color temperature was your kitchen key light?
3200

"BUT HE DOESN'T"! LMAO
what slider is that?
Where did you learn all this?
Just on set filming and TH-cam
Did you use a filter on the 35mm lens?
Yes

While all Lynn seems to be thinking is:
If you want natural light, why the heck won't you just let it in?

How to do $10.000 light setup
My soul embraces the subscribed depression!!
LOL I love this
No Blackmagic’s for this one?
Waiting for Roger Deakins to comment and say that he actually follows the channel.
