This was inspiring to watch. The most valuable lesson in this whole video is literally the fact that you should never be lazy when it comes to the initial setups. It will make or break your entire scene. Sometimes it can be overwhelming knowing that it's 2 small scenes that potentially no one will notice, to start building up complicated light setups... But you never know that those two small scenes separate you from what anyone else has been doing and give you a breakthrough in your viewers' eyes.
It's a hard and valuable lesson to learn in the world of cinema.

This dude single handedly taught me how important back lighting and "outside-in" lighting.
Pay your attention and have a control of the harsh light flow. A quite popular problem from the backlight is - hard light, which "cut" a neck of the character.

Great lesson video; I envy you so much, that you can do what you love and prevail as a filmaker! I have noticed, that the video was probably originally much longer, since a lot of CC text remained, that arent even in the video, so I bet you edited out some parts.
But still. editing a BTS video like this is a hell of a job itself. And its always a great lesson to watch them.

Thanks mate! I use a soft box a lot too :) but, as a direct and key light for motivating of a real light sources (street light, floor lamp etc). Direct light without soft diffusion is quite harsh, and it has a huge f stop value of exposure. A softbox helps to make f-stops value less and softer.

Thanks :) It was a collapsible 5-in-1 reflector / diffuser for photographers

man so inspiring - really struggling with getting the right tone atm - tempting to blame the camera (zcam s6) haha just everything looks so muddy but I'm sure its a lighting issue.

Do you use any pro-mist filters? Or do you prefer to shoot everything clean, and add effects in Post? Did you do any Color grading on this job? Or is this straight out of camera? Thanks! Admire your work..!
I prefer to use clean picture, and if it’s necessary - to add additional effects in Davinci/ Dehancer.
I’m curious how you would light and design a small home studio with basic TH-cam set up. I know you don’t do those kind of videos but I’m curious how you’d do it

Love your tutorials! What do you use as a phone app to get exposure reference from the pictures you took?
Thanks. I use a simple iPhone camera. Trying to measure exposure by bright areas in the frame. Window, practical etc. iPhone (not RAW mode) gives me this ability.

I noticed you don’t use soft boxes for interior shots just a lot of bounce and diffusion. Also I would like to know what your camera settings are to get that lowlight contrast look or is that something you do in post.
Right, I don't like to use soft boxes on the interior scenes due to it is a pretty big construction. For the studio space and pavilion, It's a really useful tool for me.
I used RED RAW, 400 ISO, REC 709 LUT. 25 FPS.

Hello, the second one was for the focus puller, it was him choice to use own focus system with quite expensive and cool transmitter. The Hollyland I used for my self and my wife, as an additional and portable playback.

Which Dana dolly did you use?
love the content. you're somewhat hard to understand tho. there's this training technique where you press your tongue towards the teeths in various places (like 10 or so) while saying a sentence. when you do that just prior to recording it strengthens the muscles and makes for a very sharp pronunciation. also lifts the mood because one sounds funny af.

Lovely shots, lighting and composition - but the static steam coming from the cup of tea took me right out of it. Try using Turbulent Displace on your static images to give them some movement.
It was a static because of a time has stopped in the scene :)

Roughly 1 hour for every location. 20-30 minutes between scenes in one location.

This really goes to show how important lighting is. I just watched ‘smile’ , and thought it looked pretty low budget. I assumed they had used a cheaper camera but it turns out it was shot on an Alexa 65mm!!!
The lighting on the interior night/late afternoon shots was so bland.

@@ANDBERY yes thats the one. Its budget was only 17million so fair enough corners had to be cut. But i really did hit home just how little camera matters these days.

the godox 600w is not water proof like Aputure. and the price is not that far. so i wouldnt recommended the godox
