Apple iPhone sales fall in nearly all countries | BBC News

- Apple boss Tim Cook tried to beat back doubts about the future of the tech giant, after it reported its biggest sales fall in more than a year.
Sales slumped 4% year-on-year in the first three months of 2024 to $90.8bn (£72.5bn), weighed down by a sharp drop in demand for iPhones.
Executives said the results were distorted by Covid-related supply disruptions, which led to unusually strong sales during the same period last year.
They said sales would return to growth in the months ahead, noting upcoming product launches and investments in artificial intelligence.

I was shocked at how long it took for apple to start offering OLED displays in their "premium" phones when Samsungs had them for many years already. It took apple 20+ years to allow people to move their homescreen icons how they want - will it be another 20-30 years before they allow people to use icon packs and homescreen widgets? 40 years for a custom launcher? 50 years for full NFC support? It took the EU to slap apple silly into finally using USB-C in iphones when everyone else got on that ages ago! I could install anything I wanted from wherever with Java, Symbian, Windows and Android phones since day1 - the EU once again has to force apple into allowing customers to do that - and even then apple fights tooth and nail over it!

It's not dropping at all. Last year was their second best year ever. Apple explained that factories were closed (for weeks on end) in the Christmas quarter of 2022. My Huawei mate 20 basic model have been working flawlessly for the pass 6 years, and even I dropped it close to a thousand times. 😂😂
Btw, I used to change Samsung note with every year without failed due to lag and virus attack, it saved me a few thousands of dollars.
The hype for iphones are no longer there compared to a decade ago
I have an iPhone 13, and let me tell you… I’m not upgrading. I get its advanced tech and what not but it shouldn’t cost nearly $1,000 to get a phone. When I worked and retail and the 15 came out. I was amazed people spent over $1000 for the phone! Some even signed up for a store credit card just to buy it. One customer instantly used up their credit card balance upon signup getting one!
American Comments: 1000 usd.
Rest of World comment: 1400/1700 euros
If it was 1000 usd (900 euros) I was never complaining 😂
Why buy an apple phone for 1k when I can buy a Motorola for 100 lol

Increasing cost of living in most countries... ppl don’t want a new phone. They just need to eat.
Gaza: they're starving to death and they just need to eat. The last thing they want is an iPhone.
Crazy world we live in today. Where starvation and morbid obesity coexist.
Bought iPhones 'cause they were solid all-round and had 5 years of updates. But man, the iPhone 15? Disappointing, especially the camera. It even lagged in basic tasks until they patched it. Competitors are stepping up with longer support and more exciting features.

You can’t expect a company to grow every single year. Ebs and flows are natural in the infinite game of business. Apple will be just fine.
what you talking about. a company can keep growing every single year. like CvntDildo ~ a vatican x afghan dlido manufacturer. their diamond encrusted 12 inch pink dildo has been a hit among royals across da globe like #getyourfactsstraight #keepinit100 #duh #shovedhatdildodownyothroatlikealilbetchthatyouare

Oh yeah, thats why the biggest tech market china phone manufacturers are copying that??
Paying thousands of dollars for storage is crazy. Little to no noticeable camera improvements in newer phones yet the prices are crazy. Competition is getting better, they are phones that can perform just like the iPhone for less hundreds of dollars. It's priced ridiculously unreasonably
Problem: last 5 versions of the iPhone is the same phone.
Problem: people are actually happy with their phone once they spend $600 on it, put it on payment plans, and getting cases and screen protectors pricing over hundreds of dollars.
Problem: it’s still a phone, from a computer company that seems to have given up on computers and laptops…
Well Apple needs to innovate again.
Or just keep buying back stocks maybe? It seems like that is a good enough business model today.
Bought my samsung galaxy A70 in 2019, still going strong, battery fine, and still in line with improvements made these last 5 years. Cost at the time, 450$
Same had galaxy A70 since early 2020 till this year march was working really good but the screen went all black after it fell to a contrete floor forced me to upgrade instead of replacing the screen
Samsung midrange phones are really good
I give it to my mom and she is still using it😅
Good for you. Samsung doesn’t even support that phone any more. Good luck with your (maybe) yearly updates when you get your new phone.

The lifecycle of a company: losses, then break-even, then profits, then profits stabilize, then dividends, then revenue shrinks, then the company shrinks and is taken over by growing companies with new technology. Apple is just over halfway through this cycle.
I just haven’t upgraded in a couple years because the 13 pro max is insane! The phones are built to last and it has been less and less appealing to upgrade each year. I’m just waiting for the next big upgrade to hardware or a decent reason to upgrade
As a apple user I think this fall maybe a good thing for apple to finally realise that you can’t no longer sell your phones in the name of brand and constant innovation is very important.
That's what happens when the latest iphone looks just like the one you have.
True. Inside and outside. But I might upgrade if they do decide to remove that horrific dynamic island. Likely in 2028/2029.
