10:22 - Maybe I'm Amazed (Dave Grohl & Norah Jones)

Sir Paul McCartney's career was celebrated by some of rock's biggest names as part of the 33rd annual Kennedy Center Honors. Macca was recognized alongside TV giant Oprah Winfrey, country legend Merle Haggard and others by President Obama at the event.
McCartney was treated to a rendition of 'Hello, Goodbye' by No Doubt and a duet of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' by Foo Fighters front-man Dave Grohl and pop singer Norah Jones. Later, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, who was asked to perform by McCartney, did a medley of songs from 'Abbey Road.' James Taylor and Mavis Staples closed out the show with 'Let It Be' and 'Hey Jude.'

My mom was in a retirement home, they had a section where the folks stayed that had dementia. I went in there one day and I heard the Beatles playing, and, those folks were dancing with joy and abandon. The nurse told me it was their favorite part of the day. I could have cried 😢 😭.

Every single person in that audience has personal memories of the Beatles' music. That, in itself, is remarkable. When they were catapulted to world wide attention on the Sullivan show, nobody knew the impact these four young men would have in five years time. They changed music, fashion, youth culture and inspired countless creative people to embrace their collective muses. There never was, or ever shall be, a phenomenon like the Beatles.

    • @bubamaranovichok4901

Hello my friend James, nice comment but with a bit of flaw. You said that the Ed Sullivan show catapulted them to world fame is absolutely wrong. They invented something which No American artists could have down. Before they came to the US they were already famous all over the world. Even tiny countries as Nepal were listening to their music and African tribes were dancing of the music of the Beatles. But it is true that in America they faced RACISM because of stupidity which still today are thriving. I remember when American youths burned records or magazines about the Beatles. “God if they would know “ what we Europiens knew already. Sorry to say, but in the US they had only misery, Lennon was killed, but Paul could manage to draw almost two million people to the Red Square in Moscow or The Rolling Stones did the same thing in Cuba for free! See the difference? Metallica did a concert there to and become rich after that event.in the American mind the first point is, how big is the profit. Music or other art is just secondary. That is my own life experience about the US because I live there.

@@bubamaranovichok4901I think you’re confused about a few things. The Beatles weren’t facing racism in the United States, they were facing some self-righteous, religious groups who were furious with John Lennon because he compared the Beatles to Jesus, said they were more popular than Jesus. It had nothing to do with John or any of the Beatles being full of themselves. Beatles records and albums were burned. I’m 69 years old and was a fan from the moment their music was played here in the United States, and then hit the Ed Sullivan stage. And there was enough greed to go around, not only for the Beatles, but many bands. Beatles were hit especially hard though.

I haven't watched this since it was first broadcast, but still, I'm in floods of tears. The Beatles' music was my era and I loved them. Never managed to see them in regular concert BUT I was on the street when they performed on the roof in London above their Apple company offices on Savile Row. I worked around the corner and when the music reached our offices, we thought it was someone with a large transistor radio (it was the '60s after all) but someone came into our office and screamed "The Beatles are playing round the corner". We thought he was kidding but when he screamed "Let's go" - we all ran and I still cannot believe it. Thanks to all four of The Beatles, but thanks even more so to Paul as "Wings" was just another continuation of brilliant music for my 20s. 💜💜💜💜

There are certain people and musicians, whom the word Legend does not even come close to describing them. Paul McCartney is one of those people and musicians. Along with John, George and Ringo, Paul changed Music and, in many ways, the world, for the better. If you had a bad day at work, or the world was dragging you down. All you have to do is listen to Paul McCartney and everything seems right with the world, for a few minutes. He is the architect of modern music. Almost every genre of music today, must pay homage to Paul McCartney and the Beatles. Thank you, Paul.

I was at a dorm party at Penn State in the late '70's, and they were playing Beatles music. Everyone was singing along, except me. When asked why I wasn't singing, I said, "I don't know the words." I was 5 or so when the Beatles were popular, and living in Germany. My parents listened to elevator music, even though they were only in their early thirties. Many years later, while out one night, my dad said, "Boy, that's a really great song!" I had to tell him it was the Beatles, and the song we were listening to was written by Paul. We both ended up missing something really special, earlier in our lives. Glad this music will last forever.

Watch Dave Grohl's documentary "Sound City" about the revered L.A. recording studio, and you'll get a taste of what a talented and intelligent guy he is. AND there's a great jam session in which Sir Paul comes in to play with him! If you appreciate Grohl you'd LOVE this documentary!

He was founder of the American Film Institute, creator of the AFI Life Achievement Award, and co-creator of the Kennedy Center Honors. He has also served as Co-Chairman of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. His father, George Stevens, was the great film director of films like Gunga Din, documentary on Nazi concentration Camps, Giant , a Place in the Sun....Shane, Diary of Anne Frank...

Although I enjoyed the video; what really got my heart, was the several comments made from people all over!
I was 10 years of age when we first heard the Beatles and we sung our hearts out with their beat; but I must be very honest with myself to say that it took me many years to really realized how big they were!!!
Definitely the best musical group and Paul Mac Cartney one of the best musician that have ever lived!!
