FYI most Sonic games from the Dreamcast era had two soundtracks, one has all the songs and maybe one or two vocal tracks and the other includes all the vocal tracks.
But yeah, game OST cover art is an overlooked subject, I know most people don't collect game OSTs I personally have most of my music in digital and scrolling through my collection to choose a song and looking at all nice artwork is very satisfying, specially when they make specific artwork for it.
Yeah one day I’d like to collect these for sure, but maybe not the Dreamcast ones those legitimately make me not wanna buy them lol
4:49 if you look at the right you'll see Chip disguised as a star, and for Endless Possibility Jaret Reddick said that it's a copyright issue with the other writer of the song. Shame we can only listen to it on only 3 platforms, TH-cam, Unleashed and Generations

I have to agree with you on Black Knight. It just looks so amazing and it fits the game perfectly. My favorite soundtrack is Forces because of Infinite, Fist Bump, and Mystic Jungle.
Ok, so both sonic colors covers are themed around printers, with the original using random splotches of cyan/magenta/yellow/black, since printers use combinations of these colors to replicate any other color.
And ultimate has these little dots, since printers cannot fade ink, they use this trick where everything is made out of differently sized dots, so, for example, gray is composed of small dots of black ink.

Ngl I really like the Frontiers one. The blue and pink color scheme is so clean and it's more relaxed like the OST. At least until you get to IT'S TIME TO FACE YOUR FEEEAARRRR.

Great video! But the way you referred to the use of Russian Constructivism and Halftones as "Glitchy aesthetic" irked me in so many ways!
I agree the Sonic Frontiers album cover is uninspired, but hopefully they make something really good whenever they get around to releasing the Vocal Tracks album of the game, hopefully.
Other than that, im suprised you didn't talk about the album titles, some of them are really cool! While I also wished games like Rush Adventure of Runners had a proper title instead of just "*Game Name* Original Soundtrack"

Oh Sonic Heroes doesn't have 2 releases, it has the normal ost with the generic cover art, and the triple colour one you showed is actually from "Sonic Heroes: Triple Threat Vocal Trax" which contains only the vocal themes of the game.
EDIT: Same with Sonic 06, the one you showed only has the vocal tracks, the official OST is the generic box art, sadly.
EDIT EDIT: At Sonic Unleashed's OST art you can see on the top left corner, one of the stars is actually Chip's silhouette. Also Endless Possibilities got cut from the digital release on Spotify and streaming platforms due to licensing if I recall correctly. Also the soundtrack is missing the tutorial stage theme in the physical release and digital release, it's a slight rendition of Apotos Day Stage, with different instrumentation, only heard in the Tutorial in game.
Woah everything about unleashed I had no idea…wait that’s so weird there’s a different version of windmile isle?
@@oreogod1985 Yeah there is! In the X360/PS3 release of the game, when you are dropped into Windmill Isle Act 1, the game uses a different track from the rest of the Apotos Day stages. The Track is called "Windmill Isle/Apotos Suburbs" and has especially noticeable differences in the drums and sampling of the track. You can find it here on TH-cam. It's only used in the tutorial stage of the game and has never been released officially by SEGA.

@@oreogod1985 Yeah, it's speculated that the track is either: A) a demo or B)Leftover from a dynamic music approach to the game's OST.
Unleashed has ton of minute tiny little details you can sink your teeth into, I've commented some on your channel before, but there's tons more if you ever wanna make a video about it.

I personally don’t have it as my favorite but it’s up there, it’s got some damn good songs. Molten mine and dragons lair are a few favorites of mine

The “glitch” effect on the Sonic Colors Ultimate cover art isn’t a glitch, it’s halftone dots. It’s an artistic technique that is mostly used in comic books to convey the illusion of fading colors when seen from afar

I know this video is a bit old, but you missed some important details.
-Sonic Cd has a non vinyil version of the ost that looks way better that the Vynil one you showed.
-Same with Sonic 06, the actual OST is a very sick looking album, nothing like the one you showed.
-Sonic the fighters has one too!
-Sonic Frontiers, Forces, Adventure, Adventure 2, Mania and Spinball got Vynil releases. Not sure if you wanted to include them, but since you included CD...

Just a note, the soundtrack cover you used for Adventure 2 is actually from the American release and isn't the full soundtrack. The original Japanese release has a proper name with entirely original art.
Edit: the Triple Threat CD for Heroes contains the vocal tracks, same for 06. 06 has its own separate release for the actual OST.
Endless Possibilities is on the CD for Planetary Pieces, but not on streaming services. They removed it when the soundtrack was re-released a few years ago, probably due to licencing issues with Bowling For Soup? Not sure.

Excellent job with this video! I actually remember owning one soundtrack which was Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn. I remember it being a gray disc with that 3D face starring at your soul. I never had the case for this so I have no idea what this disc was about but thought it was a nice thing to share.

The reason why endless possibilities isn't in the digital sound tracks yes only digital the physical versions do is because of bowling for soup the main singer is a one time singer so yea the song has been in gens and other media its just the versions that are paid for dont have it

The SA1/2 soundtracks you used aren't the proper ones. SA1 is called Digi-Log Conversations, and SA2 is called Multi-Dimensional. Both just use artwork from the cover art.
Next you should listen to the kinda main songs (like green hill and emerald hill)

That could be right but then they used it in the symphony, and they tried to avoid using songs they don’t “own”. It’s so weird they wouldn’t include that song since it’s so damn good lol

@@oreogod1985 Well to add to this, remember that they had another singer (Nathan Sharp) cover the song for the symphony, while songs like Reach for the Stars still at least used a recording of the original singer’s vocals. It could be that SEGA owns the composition of Endless Possibilities, but Bowling for Soup owns their vocals for the songs which makes the song a copyright nightmare.
