@chaomix thanks for the tutorial
Ok
Do you a mouse or something else?
I sure will man
Keep up the good work 👍
Fun story: In art class, my teacher wanted us to draw something that looked like it was in motion. So since I really liked Sonic I decided to draw Sonic running. I used an image of Sonic running in the Mania opening as a reference and tried to replicate it as closely as possible. It is, to this day probably my best and favourite drawing and I hold it as my magnum opus.
I did something similar with the japanese SA1 running animation. In that SA1, his legs blur when in motion.
I've only ever read a single issue of the Sonic comic book but the one I did was full of incredible examples of simulated motion, including a moment where Sonic punches something and his fist is just a streak. I bought the issue for visual references and must have stared at it a hundred times. Good times
What grade did you get
Can you post it?
I’m making cool super sick sonic the hotdog comic bake
Whenever I see tutorial videos saying it's okay if your sketch looks messy, their sketch looks like the final linework. Yet, yours ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A SKETCH! I praise thee with BENEVOLENCE!

Wow, my heroes. There speed are super sonic.
The cool thing about drawing Sonic the hedgehog is that he's actually made out of simplistic shapes so if you were to draw with his classic design or whatever design you like to draw him in his shapes are just simplistic enough for you to draw them
Exactly!
When I draw sonic's full body I mess up at the proportions, Probably because I don't draw him with simple shapes, I draw him more round like.
@@jimmy2dumb105 you just need practice. Simple shapes are round too

I have never seen an artist that can replicate the adventure style so well, it looks official! Great job chaomix!
Protip: Characters like Sonic usually have official palettes, so you can pull up the official reference sheets and colour-pick from those.
sonic adventure's art style has crept into my coloring style lately, and I'm not mad about it lol
great video, by the way !! :)
Can't go wrong with it! 😅
@@chaomix can’t go wrong with that 😃
Me to… kinda. My art has become a lot more exaggerated once I saw the Adventure art. :)
Thank you so much for this. I'm very amateur when it comes to art - I'm dyspraxic, so my fine motor control and coordination isn't the the best, and I've gone my entire life not really drawing so I'm starting from scratch. Following your tips actually helped me learn how to draw something that actually looks like Sonic. Certainly not too well yet, but I'm gonna keep practicing!
I’m glad to hear, keep at it and you’ll continuously see improvement!
You'll get better the more ya do it, guaranteed
hi, fellow person with dyspraxia here!
as a person who started drawing at a young age, it will take some time to improve your art. so I hope you’ll get better each day you draw! :D
20:07 you missed the opportunity to say "the possibilities are neverending"
"Endless" works too, cause Endless Possibilities
Your Art is just amazing man. This video is gonna help a lot artists who want to draw in The Adventure Style.

I'd love to see you do the Sonic 1 American boxart in adventure style
"sonic 4 ep 1"
jk, it isn't.
This video is over a year old but you can also alpha lock ur layer on most of these programs. I couldn’t find it in photoshop but fire alpaca and CPS have this feature!
That way you don’t have to add another layer in order to color over the green for the white glove highlights part. You can just repaint over the green and it will not go over the lines :>
I kinda want someone to make Sonic adventure 3 logo with this
Now I can go find my old 16 year old drawings of sonic as a kid and draw him in the art style
Nice-!
FINALLY a video talking and teaching about this
Finally someone explained the highlight fade
This helps a lot! Not only with learning this particular style but also some quick notes about using certain features for art programs.
this is some of the best emulation of the adventure artstyle ive ever seen, bravo!
Thanks Chaomix, ive been trying to replicate the Adventure/Advance artstyle but couldnt get it quite right, your process really helped me out alot
Glad I could help!
You've got this style down perfectly. Awesome!
Person who always sucked at drawing in class here, I must say that making my own Adventure-styled design is something I thought I'd never do but here I am, resting from the Line Art section (my hand hurts so bad lol)
Thanks for giving me (and others) the inspiration to take up drawing as a hobby after so many years!
Leave it to the ChaoMan to Live and Learn and Open Our Hearts to Drawings!
i got that 🤗
When I am bored in class I allways pull out my sketchbook and doodle sonic. this tutorial has greatly helped me study sonic's design more and improve my drawrings of him. Thanks Chaomix!
Yo chaomix get a sponsor, congrat 👏
Let's all appreciate the complexity of almost every single thumbnail he makes. Like, seriously
Love how it turned out! Tip to save you some time - you can use alpha lock on your green highlight stage instead of making a new clipping one and recoloring it. I'll try your tutorial myself :D
I wish I had this when I was younger! Seriously, this makes my 11 year old self so SO happy! Godspeed to all the young artist!!! Seriously, yall are all doing great and keep going!!!!!
Respect. From one Sonic Artist to another👍🏿
This was really cool to watch honestly. The lengths to which you go to have every single detail match the original artworks is pretty impressive! (I never realised all the sharp corners are rounded off actually lol) You really made me want to give it a shot myself!
Would definitely love to see you break down the Riders style or even the Sonic Battle style as those are probably my two favourite art styles in the entire series!!
I've always wanted to figure out how to draw in this style. My guy, you should turn this into a subscription service.
Great video as always, it’s so interesting to see someone else’s process through the same artstyle, I’ll be sure to keep some of these tips in mind. Keep up the incredible work!
That lesson about Clipping makes me feel so much relief about my colouring of future drawings. Thank you SO MUCH for that - my God, I make colouring such a chore for myself. It's great to finally know that there is a better way.
This tutorial is incredibly organised, informative and easy to follow. If it's something you enjoy, I would definitely recommend that you make more like this - you're very good at it.
I also just want to express how interesting your process for drawing Sonic is. It's so different to my own, even in small ways (for example: when drawing his muzzle, I start with the part his nose protrudes from).
No joke I used to think your thumbnails were official art despite never seeing them anywhere else before👁️👁️ I especially find it funny how I literally thought the art for "The Exhilarating Lore of Sonic's Green Eyes" video was real like fr thought an official artist drew him putting on eye contacts💀 Anyway other then that this was rlly helpful! I love the SA arty style It's def my fav!
I would love to see you do some more art pieces like how tripplejazz has those Sonic timelapses... seeing how you get your art done is super fascinating. Thanks for posting this awesome video btw.
Chaomix you are a life saver, as I learnt some new details I never even knew existed... THANK YOU! I draw Sonic like a lot... And my art style takes inspiration from Junio and Adventure Sonic.. So this helps out a lot.
"Shadow" and "Super" both being used for Sonic Adventure color palette names is beautiful.
This is great! Also, you do so well with your thumbnails that it's hard to tell the images are fan-made!
You make the steps very easy to follow! Thank you so much for making this video!!
Chaomix, thank you very much, you are officially my favorite Sonic TH-camr
Glad to hear it!!
This was an amazing video! I always love seeing your thumbnails, they always look so great. I draw Sonic a lot too, but was never really able to nail the adventure style, so I can't wait to try this out.
Good luck, I'd love to see your finished drawing! 😁
i've spent time trying to mimic this artstyle before but didn't pick up on some of the things you included, so thank you! (specifically the rounded lineart edges and how the highlights include 2 colors)
The lineart (aka the most genius part of this style) always gave me trouble. Thanks for this amazing guide!
Honestly, I thought your thumbnails were official artwork. Very impressive!
Thank you for blessing us with this video
THIS IS WHAT NEED
as a major uekawa inspired z-list sonic fan-artist, i love this vid so much. i never thought about super highlights before, i'll have to try it next time.
AMAZING!! Your skill is way beyond mine, I can only hope to be somewhere near your level one day. But I love what you do here, and you really make it look so easy! And it really does look like the real thing! It's encouraging how easy you make it look. Nice to see FireAlpaca getting a recommendation too as that is what I use.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! It was really well explained. I look forward to giving this style a try ^^
I did this with paper and this still helps. Thanks Chaomix!!
The main thing that I wanted to figure out was how to replicate the shading and highlights, super helpful
Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for making this! although i have been doing digital art for almost 8 years now, and have been doing Sonic Adventure styled stuff for about 5, this helped SO much.
I honestly didn't even KNOW some of these tricks existed in the first place! In fact, when it came to doing fades within the highlights, i was straight up just using a blur tool found in Paint Tool Sai, rather than using the trick you showed.
great stuff!
Thank you it helped me so much. It really helped me learn and get used the style and I might come back to this video every so often because it’s a good tutorial. But thanks for making this it was very helpful.
I wouldve loved to have a content creator like you when I was growing up with sonic!!! this its perfect, thank you for creating such fun content!
I always wondered how they did the coloring, it looked so unique to me
Saved to my personal art tutorials folder! Thanky thanky
This is very helpful thank you chaomix
I am experienced with drawing and I’ve been wanting to get better at drawing certain things
And drawing in the sonic adventure style is one of them
loved this tutorial really helped me when i was making a 3d model in adventure style
thank you, I've been trying to do this style forever
I recently used this video as a guide to coloring since I only recently started drawing on desktop and mostly used to draw on my phone and this was a pretty good guide and I'm glad you recommended Clip Studio Paint because ever since I tried the trial I fell in love with it lol.
FINALLY! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING A TUTORIAL TO DO THIS STYLE
i think the hardest part of recreating the sonic adventure art style is the lines and the shading that ends just before the lines. great video!
Thanks so much for this tutorial, Chaomix!
this actually helps a BUNCH. I've been drawing for a long time but only humans really.. never tried these characters until recently and its proven to be a HELL of a challenge making it not look uncanny, weird or ugly GFDSJ- this tutorial really helps!! Thank you so much!!
I have CLIP and it’s a great program. This was a very interesting tutorial to watch and definitely helped me out with line art and coloring.
Thank you for the tutorial, I'm going to try this out soon!
I used to scribble a LOT of Sonic doodles during my middle school years, he was just so fun to draw!
Me right now lol
Thanks for making this! And congrats on the sponsorship!
Wow, great work! I didn’t even realize you drew your own thumbnails. I thought it was official art. It’s so good!
Your fan art looks so great!
This is really helpfull I love the adventure art style honestly its one of my favorite art style in the series :)
Thanks bro! I've will try to do this sometime, and i dont' even have to worry 'bout the shading and all because it's Traditional Art!
I knew this was coming sometime, it was wishful thinking for so long. I have somewhere to start now!! I totally want more of this stuff. Keep it comin' for us!!
btw I got medibang on tablet and its really nice and free with an optional non subscription upgrade. It has everything you said is needed, and it specializes in comics and stuff.
These art things really inspired me to do better art, so I chose drawing for one of my subjects in online school. Thanks! :D
its so awesome that you did this
Thanks!
Chaomix my man, thank you so much!! 😭💕💕💕
Thank you so much for this video💕
As somebody who always wanted to draw but never really had quite the talent and knowledge, it's fun to see videos like this
thanks
Man thank you so much for doing this video, this is gonna help me so much with my drawings, thank you
The thing about Sonic's design is just how versatile it is. We have the simpler, more cartoonny/softer looking classic design, the cooler, graphite art style from Adventure, the grounded and "realistic" looking o6, and many, many others. Sonic is just very volatile, and it is so fun to play around with his unique design
The Ultimate Tutorial. Thanks dude, I love this kind of videos, and this video is especialy useful
Glad it helped!
Not only did this teach me the style it also taught me how to organize in clip (I'm bad at organizing my folders etc.
You're one of my favorite Sonic TH-camrs and I really love this vid...Thank u so much for making something so helpful. Ur so sweet T_T keep making wonderful vids!
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching my content! 😁
THANK YOU SOO MUCH CHAOMIX!!! YOU ARE A TRUE GOD! I'VE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOU! I'M SOO SUBSCRIBING
Thanks man! This is literally gonna help me when i make a drawing like this!
I draw in paper so when i watch this video for ideas of how to draw sonic it really dosent look like the adventure art style but still looks nice, and sometimes when im bored i just decide to draw a sonic sketch or just a complete drawing and when people see it the freak out of how i draw and it feel a bit awkward just for a simple sketch
a blessing has come upon us all
This saved me so much time thank you dude!!
this sounds helpful for not just sonic
thanks mate
Chaomix: turns it green
Ken: THAT'S MY CHARACTER
i draw on paper, but even this helped, like now i know how to do the proportions a lil better and thatll help me do some custom poses, thanks lol
also heres a good tip for other paper drawers like me: include the highlights still, and when uve finished the main color, get a black pencil and shade to make the shadows, also whatever ur main color is then get a lighter pencil of that color to do the highlights, or even just draw lightly with ur main color
i have a slightly different way i do this, but the way you do it is pretty easy too, i like it!
Thanks man this will so be useful!
Thank you so much for making this because I’m new and suck at drawing him
Finally, a clear explanation to how clipping works
