  • Introducing my 2004 Boxster S 550 Spyder project car. The car is in excellent shape but has some major issues that need to be addressed. We will be sorting everything out on this car and doing some mods to make it the ultimate 986!!!
    Issues include:
    - 2nd gear grind
    - Major oil leaks
    - Missing some under panels.
    - Sloppy shifter.
    - Brakes don't work well for aggressive driving.
    - Key-fob doesn't work.
    - Too quiet! 😆
We will go fixing all of those issues and then some minor cosmetic improvements as well.
Lots of mods planned as this car will primarily used on weekends and for autocross!

That headhunt is actually OEM. Its the Porsche PCCM+. They make them specifically for the 996/986 chassis as well as a few others now.

Thanks! I figured it was Porsche made. It seemed too good to be aftermarket.

As said in other comments, the head unit is oem. It’s an upgrade that Porsche put out to give owners of older cars some modern entertainment options

It’s amazing that Porsche did that! I love it 👏🏼

Nice find! I owned #317 for a while. The shifter should be from a 997/987 already which had a shorter throw than the 996/986 one. More than likely cable ends or the cables will be due for replacement. If that's the case just get the numeric cables and call it a day. These ran a 987 boxster airbox as well, as for the oil leaks it could be the rear main if it has not been done. Or just super caked grime as no body ever cleans the engine on these because of the covers. The wheels look like they were refinished at some point as the centers and spokes were a dark gray on the 550's. excited to see where this goes good luck with it.

I had one of these. The wheel centres and caps ought to be darker silver than the rims.
The 550 is fitted with the Porsche handling kit, which lowers and stiffens the suspension. This might be a great idea on the track, but on the road it takes all the fun out of it, and turns it from an entertaining drive to a boringly competent one. The mod I would do to it, therefore would be to replace it with a standard suspension package. Also the alternators fail, so check that's working. Window regulators fail too. The electric release for the front trunk doesn't always release it properly, so find the manual release, and maybe reroute it to behind the front towing eye cover. Finally the parking brake drums (built into the rear rotors) can be completely rusted even if the brake rotors look good. Your parking brake will never work very well if this is the case.

Thanks for the info. It came with an extra set of wheels, the ones you are describing.
The ride isn’t really too bad for a sports car. I’ve definitely owned worse riding cars haha.
Thankfully everything you listed is working great at the moment.

I was looking for a Spyder but ended up buying a Carmona red metallic base with a full saddle leather interior and a 5 speed manual. I'm still looking for a Spyder but the only one available in Canada right now is a complete turd. Just have to be patient. Enjoyed the vid.

I have #779. Yours has a replacement muffler tailpipe, not the oem overlapping.

      What gives that away?
