Her overview is spot on. If you are feeling the vibe of how she presents living in DC--and how you are looking to live here, you have hit the right channel. Now, if you want to live in DC and not break the bank: move to Petworth, DC neighborhood or Brightwood Park, DC--and open yourself up to roommates! (You will enjoy alll of the things she talks about, but will not break your bank. I find that it's mostly southern transplants who don't understand roommates...but that's another post). She is spot on for her audience!! Great vid.
@truebetold65 theater, musicals, punk shows, bluegrass jams, beer & cider tasting, 7-course Chef's tasting dinners, DJ brunches, author talks, Shakespeare in the Park, Mixology classes, candle and soap making...etc, etc. LOLOL "mall walking and museums"--those are tourist activities or Sat AM with the kids. The interesting things to do in a city are never going to be in the tourist areas. C'mon, you know that.
@@truebetold65 I used to feel the same way about D.C., but after living in the outskirts and exploring everything the area has to offer, I've realized there’s so much to do. First off, D.C. is home to world-class museums, and not just on the National Mall-there are incredible, free museums scattered throughout the city. D.C. is the capital of free museums, offering access to art and history you won't find anywhere else without an admission fee. In cities like NYC or Philly, most museums require you to pay, but in D.C., they're open to everyone. The food scene here is amazing, too-name a cuisine, and you’ll find it, and it’s guaranteed to be delicious. Plus, D.C. has stunning parks and green spaces. I’m not talking about just any ordinary park-we have the U.S. National Arboretum, Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens, and Rock Creek Park, which is like our own version of Central Park. And let’s not forget the cherry blossoms in spring, which bloom not only at the National Mall but also in neighborhoods, parks, and gardens throughout the city. Fall is equally beautiful, with bright yellow ginkgo leaves that make parts of the city look like they’re glowing. And since D.C. is a major city, we have some great shopping areas-Georgetown is a must-visit, with its charming colonial streets, unique shops, and amazing food. There are also fantastic farmers' markets in many of the city’s quaint neighborhoods, plus tons of community events, run clubs, and stunning community centers. I could go on, but honestly, D.C. has so much to offer. If you find it overrated and boring, maybe that’s on you. Did you even try to explore what this city has? Next time, put in a little effort, and you might just be amazed at what D.C. has to offer. Don’t blame the city for your lack of curiosity! and I'm not just talking about DC, but any city you visit.
I was raised in DC. If you don't mind the high cost of housing and traffic, chose DC if not, the suburbs might be a better choice. No matter what you choice, If you are in the DMV you will have the best of everything because it's easy to find something to do as well as it's easy to get around by metro.
I was a 19 year old in D.C in 1980 my first apt. was in Alexandia VA with two roomates because when I started at the FBI we only made $10500 a year and you could not live alone 😂 Now I live in Maryland side a little cheaper than Virginia and I am retired from government. When I came here no relatives I am from Philly that was one hour half away not to bad use to catch that Amtrak home on weekends. 😂 I built a life here got married had two kids now retired in a nice home in Matyland suburbs. Life takes you places you just got to be willing to go. The best thing about FBI they helped us with housing they had a spot where we can get roommates I got mind the first day on the job stayed at this hotel down the street on New York ave one night. Then I moved to Alexandia Va got the bus to the Pentagon got on the subway to Metro Station and went to work at 10th and Penn at 19 years old I had a career job with the government. Young people take chances😊
I'm in Noma, construction starts at 7am 6 days a week and sometimes goes until midnight. If you wanna sleep in you better have ear plugs. But the amount of buildings going up and being planned is insane. Pretty much every empty lot has a huge project coming, but if you like transit oriented dense development and the perks/amenities it comes with, it's pretty nice.
@dudeonthasopha how would you rate the crime? I keep ready really sketchy things about shootings/break-ins. Is there an area of NOMA that’s generally safer?
Eastern Market is near the Eastern Market station (Pennsylvania Avenue SE between 7th and 8th Streets SE) on the Blue/Orange/Silver WMATA Metrorail lines.
I saw your Tik Tok then I stumbled upon your video here on TH-cam and so happy I did! I'm moving to DC in the fall and this video is so helpful, thanks for sharing

Born and raised here… unfortunately still here. DC is wildin right now. Crime is at an all time high, regardless of neighborhood. Horrible school system and we’re still being taxed without Representation. It may look sweet but is all a façade. Move to Northern Va or MD. Thank me later.
Renovated, 3.5 bathrooms, with Great schools scores above 5, on a quarter acre, within 16 miles of the White House. If you see it, don't think about it. Just Buy whatever's on the market with lowest price and meets this filter. You won't regret it.
Navy yard is an amazing neighborhood! Waterfront a block away and quiet most of the time. Theres also a thriving black and gay population! You truly cant tell if there are any right wingers out and about.
You live in Virginia and now you want to live in DC.? What a joke. Such a downgrade. It's like living in Beverly Hills and wanting to move to Compton. Really? I guess you like the title of DC? So many of us like it that way. Oh, well. Peace ✌️
Compton was very much nice these days in full of Mexicans, and Virginia should be very much thankful, DC gave them a name because you are close to the Nations capital. That’s very much the reason why most people move there. 🤷🏽

I’m an Australian who lived at Eastern Market 2005-2006. I miss it and would move back in a flash. Except for the healthcare, political, and gun issues faced by the broader country. But Eastern Market is a gem.

What is so popular about DC? Please tell me. There is absolutely nothing to do or see after the mall walk and museums. Literally overrated. Boring.

Give yourself time. Rent for a year to feel the different areas. There’s choice galore as people are choosing to leave the city for nearby sites.
Do you have any concerns about safety in these different neighborhoods?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!
I live on the Hill and Eastern Market is on the Hill so the vibe is the same for the larger area.
