Im born and raised in DC. It is important to know that DC has completely changed in the last 20 years. Case and point, the diversity. Remember, DC use to be Chocolate City.
I'm from D.C. and once I got married, I moved to Raleigh for five years and most recently to Detroit (which has a similar vibe to D.C.). My wife thinks people in D.C. have bad attitudes, and I had to tell her that when you're paying $2000 for a one-bedroom apartment, you'd be angry too. And yes, the food in D.C. does suck. But if you're from the area and don't get out often, you don't even notice it until you go somewhere else and think, "Damn, this tastes different, lol." One thing I will say is that I never knew how spoiled I was being black in D.C. It's nothing to see a black person with a million-dollar home or making $200k. All black folks want to run to ATL, but it's overcrowded down there, and if you don't have a real plan, you will end up broke. D.C. always has jobs. I noticed stuff like this when I was living in Raleigh; I felt like an alien to white folks down there. They had never met a well-off black person and assumed all of us work at Walmart. No, Billy, I can't help you find anything in here, sir. I'm looking for the same stuff you are. I loved being around other successful black folks in D.C., where it's common and you're not like a unicorn. I'm in Detroit now, and you can tell they have been redoing the city, and gentrification has started. This city is slowly becoming much different than people remember. The same thing happened in D.C. Gentrification does have some pros, but bad traffic, the high cost of living, and too many people moving to your city aren't it. The best way to enjoy living in the nation's capital is to find a remote job where you don't have to commute as much. That's what I do in Detroit now, where the cost of living is much cheaper and, as of now, it isn't overcrowded, LOL.
Born and raised in the DMV, lived in California for 12 years then moved back to the DMV. YOUR WIFE IS 100% right! Attitudes here are HORRIBLE compared to other cities ive lived in and frequented. Particularly in the black community unfortunately because our black community is one of the strengths of the area. I will always love my hometown but it makes me sad that bad attitudes and crime seem to be halmarks of our area.
Just moved from San Diego to Hyattsville, doing just what you said...working remotely means I only drive for personal errands and don't mind the traffic as much.
The New York Subway is actually three different systems that were linked together later. That's why its so massive and has different sized trains and tracks. Unlike New York, all DC subway stations have A/C, elevators, and wheelchair accessible fare gates.
Driving in the DMV is SO stressful😫 That being said, DMV is a special and unique place to live😍 All pros were on point🔥Given how crowded it is, it’s definitely NOT an underrated area‼️
I moved to DC 17 years ago from Brooklyn still here. I'm in the 14th and U area, This video is accurate, except for the food. There are thousands of restaurants, most of them pretty good,
As an adopted Washingtonian from the Southwest, my daddy moved us there in 1990 to take advantage of what is now the tech boom. But this is when DC was Chocolate City. When there were soul food restaurants on Georgia Ave, festivals celebrating all shades of Black culture in the summer, and U Street still had a faint echoed breath of the Harlem Renaissance that our hearts could still connect to generations later(RIP Twins Jazz 😢). My husband and I were entertaining the idea of moving to South Carolina where my Gullah Geechie family is, but the same uprooting that has left DC culturally crestfallen is the same thing happening in my daddy’s home town, so we moved to a place in VA that is so rural it’ll be another 30 years before the cultural extraction (sans Novocain) happens. By then our kids will be good and grown, so we will either be in the islands or somewhere in the motherland.
I came to your channel from your initial DMV review and I'm cryingggg at the retraction of the food lmao. when I watched the first one and you said good food I was like 🧐 (I'm spoiled when it comes to food since I'm from NYC) but I've been considering moving to the DMV for some years now and appreciate your content and opinions. some ppl leave a lot to be desired on the topic. you touched base on everything from a real and tangible perspective rather than a bunch of stats that I could have read anywhere. thank you so much also, the growth in your channel and content is so cool to see, even though I've only browsed through a few videos so far. the production and editing is *chef's kiss* and I love your energy!! instant subscribe 🫶
Thank you so much for the support!!! Yeah it’s tough because when i first moved here i was kind of hype about the food, as I’ve traveled more and earned more, I’ve had more flexibility on my taste and I’m just like, it’s not bad here, but it’s really not a food powerhouse. A lot of options but just ehh. Dc need a specialty that’s not a condiment 😂
The local food scene in DC is not good. Now the upscale restaurants are great. But DC is not a place where you can get great pizza and wings from a local place. It's also not a great place for quality Italian food. What's sad is that DC is surrounded by great food cities: Baltimore, Philly, NYC, and Boston. I love living in DC, but I do miss being able to get quality pizza. I didn't know how good I had it in Rochester when it came to great pizza, wings, and Italian food.
Just came back from D.C. and I loved it. I am considering relocating to D.C. from Chicago. We were at a spot that was a 20-minute walk to most attractions, stores, & restaurants/bars. I loved that it was clean, had a variety of options for entertainment, and had a chill environment.
Relocated here from Seattle a year and a half ago. I second EVERYTHING you listed.... except the food because I know how to find it. I have a list a restaurants I recommend and not because of vibe as main reason.
I agree since I’ve reprogrammed my feed on IG I have seen a lot of places pop up in the dmv area and bmore that I need to try when it comes down to food
DC has great food and a huge variety. DC has some of the best Ethiopian food along with Caribbean, Indian and Mediterranean food. Crime has gone up but honestly crime has gotten out of hand everywhere. 🤷🏽♀️
I've been to several Michelin restaurants IN DC that were underwhelming - based on the food alone. I find the Michelin rating system very classist and overrated. Michelin Star status means nothing to me 😂 I've eaten at Michelin Star restaurants in the US, Europe and Asia... not mind-blowing.
The food for the most part in DC isn’t good. I moved to the area from the south and sometimes I go back just to eat. People in DC don’t know what good food is
Virginia drivers. Not so much Maryland drivers. When it comes to the food… the city does need some more powerhouses BUT if you’re going to the big name new restaurants to find your best bite that’s where you made your first mistake.
Born and raised in the DMV, my grandparents moved here in the 1950s from the Midwest. The DMV is a very transient place, and some people dislike that, but there are also countless families like mine with deep roots here.
Thank you my brutha, I certainly appreciate you making this video. As I’m currently in the process of moving to DC. And, thankfully all the points you touched I’ve been aware of and some not as versed on. Yet, it has helped me secured my decision! 👊🏾😁💯
I was born and raised in DC. I moved to the south 24 years ago and I still visit because I have close friends there. The traffic is insane. It is a beautiful city. Great night life.
My first trip to NYC 20 years ago made me appreciate the beauty of the DMV. Not only is there more greenery in the DMV, THERE IS NO STENCH OF URINE AND GARBAGE!
I work for metro and the piss is definitely here in the dmv and if you want to see some real greenery that has been well taken care of for their tax dollars. Visit sunny San Diego.
MD drivers are aggressive but VA drivers drive worse. They must still think they’re in the shitty VA highways. Only highway system that makes less sense was Miami’s.
I’m enjoyed this video! 😂 I’m from Philly and been living in the DM(V) for the past 9 years! I live in Arlington, Virginia and work in DC and everything you’ve said is soooooo true. 😂
@@Jking7509 yes, a few things. Lol DC is infested with rats, BAD. Also, traffic is terrible all the time and the parking isn’t great either. It’s best to Uber if you’re going out in DC even if you have your own car, I avoid parking tickets and potentially get my car towed that way. Lastly, if you’re moving to the state of Virginia, be prepared to pay a property tax for your vehicle. The property tax goes by the kind of vehicle you drive and the year. Overall, the money is good in the DMV and there’s always something to do. I hope this information helps 🤗
@PoshDiva1122 wow, we visited earlier this year and didn't see any rats but that's good to know. I appreciate that fast response. Also the tax on vehicle, never knew.
I grew up in the DMV, lived in Ny 5 years, Atlanta 10 yrs, Calabasas ca 5 yrs My heart is still yearning for the DMV I love that he said it’s the most underrated place in America, this is 100%
Not sure about you. But I’ve lived in DC & loved it for 15. Despite traveling to many other cities both nationally & internationally, I still think DC is the best city.
Is Go Go still a thing here? All the young people I know are into hip hop. I know the grown and sexy scene was a thing for a while but.does.anyome under 40 listen to go go anymore? I'm old and lost interest when horns went away.
Great video. Very accurate. Been on the MD side for over 40 years. Proximity is one of the best advantages. It can't be beat unless you want to travel to the West Coast all of the time.
I grew up in Cleveland, currently live in Virginia however did two Naval tours in the DMV so here's my take. Yes it's expensive, terrible traffic, however other than that, AWESOME CITY!!!! I love the energy, the diversity, restaurants, and the intelligent people who make up the DMV!!! Love the DMV!!!!
Born and Raised in DC and I will admit, this city has gotten better and better over the years. Like most major cities, my biggest gripe about DC and the surrounding areas are GENtrification. The coat of living here, has pushed lifers to PG, MoCo and Charles counties, and the cost is getting higher there as well. The crime is terrible in the DMV. My suggestion to folks who wanna move here, move to the surrounding areas, and SHACK UP to KEEP UP...
DMV is my home. I'm 50, but finally left the DMV just before I turned 40. The city is a great mix of entertainment, history and politics. The food IS mid. There is no distinctive cuisine that defines the area (and no, carry out wings and Mambo sauce isn't enough). That's great for variety, but poor for food that really hits. There are gems to be found, but overall, the food scene mostly trendy. I was born in DC, but then grew up in NoVA, with extensive family in PG and worked in the city as a Fed contractor for 20+ years. I finally left the area due to traffic, cost of living, and crime. I still live close enough to visit from time to time.
The variety of food slaps in the DMV. Houston, Atl have the exact same types of options. DC foods have everything! You should have chosen better options.
Those places don’t have the same things. They have a variety too. They just have specialties that they thrive in, dc doesn’t have that. I’ve been eating out for 3.5 years now lol, i don’t know how much i gotta eat to get a good grasp. I don’t think it’s bad here, it’s just lacking compared to majority of the major metros. It’s smaller areas with better food and that’s strange to me
@@kevinbishop5722 i can’t even tell you honestly, people ask me this and i find everything so mid, that nothing rings when i think of a top spot. Give me some suggestions! If i haven’t been, I’ll go for sure
Great summary of DC! I lived in DC for 5 years over 15 years ago and I loved it! Even though the DC I lived in didn't have as much gentrification as it does now, it was indeed chocolate city then. But I love hearing about the new DC and I agree with a lot of what you said.
As a local, this video was on point (except it’s Virginia drivers not MD). If you’re moving here and looking to open a business, VA and DC are more oversaturated than MD. The food scene is good but I know what you mean, certain places are all pretty with no substance but the quiet ones are the real hard hitters
I am a big fan of DMV winters. Mostly upper 30's/lower 40's. Doesn't get bitter chill too often. I find it more pleasant then the sticky humid summers. And spring and fall rock ..
I agree w you on the winters. 40° with a hoodie, sweats and some Nike boots is the vibe for me. The older I get, the less and less I like this swampy, humid, thick and sticky summer weather. Can't wait for the fall to hit.
Omg I never had allergies until I moved here 24 years ago, the only time I’m not affected is summer. But then I have to contend with the humidity. The restaurant scene use to be so much better, but you can still find good ones. A lot of mom and pop places got priced out with gentrification. Where I live there use to be restaurants, barbershops, hair salons, nail salons, local pharmacy and a local Caribbean supermarket. They’re all closed, now it’s all condos, I loved the area, I could walk to everything.
Lived here my whole life, your list is spot on! I've been able to find great food, but you really have to dig for it, and it would be something like Yemeni, Afghan, Korean, Peruvian, El Salvadorian, or Jamaican food, not typical American food. Still, this can be a plus in a way, as while I wouldn't say DC has the "best" food culture, but it's definitely up there in food diversity, arguably punching above our weight. In the next few decades, I hope some chef in our area can create some more local food to put our city on the map using this diversity of influences, more so than just mumbo sauce.
My first time in DC was in 1984 as a very young Serviceman serving the US Army at the time. I was in the US Army during the President Reagan second term. Washing DC was so much different during that time but started to get bad when Crack came on the scene very hard. It was a good experience for me as young person.
My god brother, a native, shared this with me. He knows I’m a proud Washingtonian and he wanted to know my opinion of this video. Now, I did come ready to fight, but I wanted to hear you out. You started off with the Cons and you go into the problems with the food scene here in DC. Well, let me share as of June 2024, DC ranks are really solid. So, I think Rob might want to reconsider this con. However, over all I agree with all other points. He did miss making the point about the level of social services and health care, which are so important to any ranking. It is my view, DC has the best services for its citizens than any other place in the nation. So, other than that, great job, Rob. Also Rob, if you want to hang out and check out some great eats, hit me up. There is a new African restaurant in my neighborhood, Logan Circle, that will blow you away. Ok, stay safe and thanks for the video!!!
Hey man wondering what you think of Chicago. After living in the DMV for years I moved out to Chicago for the better food, public transportation and lower cost of living. Definitely miss the mountains and proximity to other cities though.
Chicago has nothing on the DMV. Chicago has more crime, worse weather, and less diversity than DC. Plus DC has MD and VA right next door so it’s easy to try out new things. I moved to Arizona years ago to try something new and within a year I ran back to DC. There is no place like the DMV!
Chicago is dope and got the best summers in the U.S. DC summers are ok, but its overly hot but its literally something going on everyday in Chicago in the summer.
Pretty fair! I'm DMV for life (so far) and the food is nothing to brag about. The suburbs have many food desert areas and the restaurants in DC are only easily accessible for those living there or using public transportation. Trying to park in DC is crazy.
I grew up in the MD suburbs and moved to NYC in my 20s. I'm now in my 50s and have decided to move to DC. NYC is great and all... but it has changed and I have changed too. And being a NYer as an old person is a very different experience than being a NYer as a young person. It seems to me that I am less and less inclined to experience the city and have basically just relegated myself to merely existing here but with all of the inconveniences and high costs of being in Manhattan. I work remotely and am a few years from retirement so I could theoretically live anywhere. But I chose DC because a) It is close enough to NYC that I could back at any time without too much effort. b) World-class museums and cultural institutions, most of which are free. c) It's a beautiful, clean city with access to 2 (or 3 if you count BWI) international airports. d) It's cheaper than NYC overall. I live in a tiny co-op apartment in NYC now but am in contract to buy a townhouse in Georgetown and I can't wait to finally have closets and rooms and a back yard. DC has also changed a lot since I was a kid, but in many ways I think it has changed for the better. I look forward to long walks on the National Mall and biking through Rock Creek Park and the C&O Canal. The weather in DC sucks but it also sucks in NYC as well.
Born and raised just outside. I've moved away a lot, but I keep coming back. While I in general believe the DMV is an amazing place to visit, but a horrible place to live, you do a great job of being fair to the area. Good pros and reasonable cons. A good job on the video.
Just moved to DMV from Ga, live in Silver spring work in DC, and you tell no lies. Food scene mid, traffic insane, weather is 50/50, but through all of that DC and Silver Spring MD beautiful and phenomenal cities
PG here. Very accurate description of the city! I have a feeling more people in the DMV watched your video lol. Hopefully it finds its way outside of us.
Having lived here for over 15 years, and lived in a lot of other places besides, I like DC better than anywhere else. The climate is mild compared to that of some Western states. Sure, we have hot summers and cold winters, but not as extreme as some other places. And we don't get huge tornadoes. The hurricanes that come up the east coast tend to brush on past, normally bypassing us. We do get an occasional big snowfall, but it rarely stays around for more than a week. This city has a lot of crime, but it's not in the top ten. Some other cities are significantly worse. You just need to be cautious, keeping your guard up. One additional point worth mentioning is that the Smithsonian, including the National Gallery of Art and the Zoo, are FREE. Each museum has plenty to see, all for nothing. Not many cities offer that. Finally, if you like the great outdoors, we have Rock Creek Park. It stretches on for miles and miles. It has all kinds of wildlife--including some species that you wouldn't normally find in any big city.
Moved here with my mother as a teen. This was 1988. DC has its highs and lows. Overall it’s has so many highs even if you don’t have a lot of money. This is why I live in Montgomery County
Thanks for this informative video. I visit DC quarterly but otherwise work out of my house in L.A., so I appreciated getting to learn about the city where my office/desk is located.
I'ma born and bred Washingtonian from Northeast DC. A lot of what he said I'd agree with. We've seen our city go through massive changes to be as appealing as it is now. However, the appeal was to do just what it's doing and attract all the out of towners here and make it more inconvenient. Gentrification is real and moving us natives away to finesse newcomers here and inflate the price of EVERYTHING because they don't know any better. Everything is business oriented and transactional, and it births the hunger and desperation for financial stability. Which fuels anger, animosity, attitude and aggression. Any of us native Washingtonian will have that edge to us. Any newcomers will develop it. Even in something small. Like what this brother mentioned, in TRAFFIC! The environment creates it. But they wonder why the crime rate here is so high.. It's rough here and everyone's money hungry. It's very political in how things move in all areas and all about "who" you know.. DC will never be the same again, but it's like, "damn, why create something completely different??" So that everyone feels inclusive.. There's a piece of mind to be obtained here and a certain quality of life. You'll just be inconvenienced in the process of obtaining and maintaining it.. real talk!! FYI, It ain't sweet here and our crazy asses love it! 😂
As a Maryland driver I agree. However also as a Maryland driver. Keep your slow ass out of the far left passing / speeding lane if you want to drive the speed limit or you could simply just move over and let us by . Or don’t. This one is everybody. GET OFF YOUR GODDAMN PHONE AND DRIIIIIIIIIVE 😡 ok i’m done. Enjoy your drive and and be safe.
@@MakingBigMoves Yeah but he ain't never lied. People here drive like they just got off the boat, then they're the young people just learning everywhere along with the very old that just can't or won't give it up. Then you got the speed freaks and now that you add weed to the equation, it's like Mad Max.
@@hergroove8184 I didn't mean that "just got off the boat," phrase as an offense. I respect people and their cultures from around the world. However, many people that have just arrived here already have driver's licenses from their homeland and many of these countries drive on the left side of the road and are unaware of U.S. driving laws.
@@DJKLouiV 😂 seeeee, the driving the speed limit is bad driving. I don’t think the area driving skills are great, but Maryland drivers aggressive, DC kinda neutral, VA drive slower.
As a native Washingtonian, the saying goes VA drivers can’t drive and Maryland driver’s will drive you off the road (most aggressive drivers; they grow up driving on more highways). Us Washingtonians are city drivers, so we may break traffic laws often. Welcome to D.C. 😂🥁
lol i just think the food average. However, i love the area. At the end of the video i gave the area a “A” rating. However, every place has pros and cons
I definitely think DMV food slaps, but I wonder if it’s more that most of the best food is in the suburbs. E.g. I hear the comment all the time that “dc has no good Chinese food” but Rockville, MD and Fairfax County, VA have lots of incredible authentic Chinese and other Asian places.
Accurate video, but I would argue that the food is pretty good if you are willing to search for the good restaurants, and you're close to Annapolis/Eastern Shore for seafood!
I will agree with some of this, but this is a 4 season area…so you will get Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter. We do have many great food establishments (and yes I’ve traveled to many places). You just need to explore more. Enjoy!
I agree. I was on the other end when i first moved here. Saying it was good. It’s okay. Definitely not bad, but to be the 6/7th biggest metro area, you expect a lot more.
Try Indigo restaurant on 3rd & K NE for really good Indian food. Their chicken tikka masala is just 🤌🏾. I’m Bolivian so you have to try this place called Kantuta in Wheaton and try a Saltenia before you move out west. Great video!
I’m born and raised…we are tired of seeing PA, NY, CA tags..so serious the traffic is horrible and they can not handle our type of traffic moving hella slow..pissing me off everyday fr
Good work, but you missed a few things.Being from Baltimore, DC (way before all the DMV talk) is our neighbor 50 miles to the South, and "the district" has always been a great city for various reasons. The food, nightlife, economy, and its are multicultural. The women are fine, too (most are transplantsl. Yeah, it can be a bit bougesiouse and pretentious, but it's DC! Another pro you never mentioned is the historical monuments, architecture, and history in DC. In addition to the great universities (talks/lectures) and unique businesses, there. Crime in DC has always been outrageous. It was worse back in the late 80s during the crack epidemic. As a Marylander, driving in this area is like a live version of a Madmax/Road Warrior film. It's insane! I've driven in NYC and never had aa many problems. DCs transportation system (including MARC train) is pretty good. There are remnants of "old DC" that I miss. The many Black Businesses and cohesiveness of neighborhoods, etc. Gentrification has its pros and cons. It cleaned up blighted areas but pushed people out. DC is still an interesting place to live.
I'm born and raised in Baltimore, practiced in DC before COVID...I miss being able to meet people from all over the world, but I can't ever move back up north. The prices....the cold weather, the entitlement lol idk. I'm in Florida now, I love being able to take a walk whenever I want to, it's cheaper (ish lol)....but the bugs still suck!
Also I wish they will bring back the reggae fest in the Georgia Ave area 🤘🏾 I got a chance to experience that in 2012 and I must say it reminded me of my hometown Rochester Ny 🙏🏾 So happy my mom sent me to VSU after hs and I ended up connecting with a Dc guy to experience the good life of chocolate city 🤘🏾
I’ve been here since ‘89. Some things are better, some worse. I agree about the food scene, although there are some great places. Crime was very high in the 90s, then declined but now it’s on the rise again. Many areas of DC are being renovated and there is a construction renaissance ongoing. Traffic is a nightmare. The number one reason not to move to the dmv is traffic. Also, housing prices are through the roof.
I moved here 3.5 years ago also. I disagree with you about the winter weather, it's not bad at all! I do agree with you about everything else. I am so disappointed with the food (pretty restaurants), I expected so much more. Overall, I do love the location.
LoL. Your right. MD drivers have no chill. But you gotta have some confidence to drive in MD. No one's gonna let you in. You need to take that spot. Get your game up, sir.
DC is the Restaurant Capital & considered to be #1 in the US for best restaurants & food, look it up! Not sure where u was eating but very few ppl say the food aint all that. Prob just need to know where to go.
I’m expected to move there March due to work, but I didn’t realize how bad crime was. Even the luxury apartments say the wheels were stolen or break ins and most of these luxury apartments have reviews (mostly negative) and say they have roaches and mice! I canntttt! Is this true… or you think it’s just people being petty? I’m looking into Alexandria, Arlington, Waldorf, Kingstowne. Any advice anyone who is CURRENTLY still in the area??
I have been all over the world. I’ve been to the villas in Brazil. I have been Nairobi Kenya Bangkok, Thailand, Tokyo Japan, Montego Bay, Jamaica London, England, Paris, France New York, New York, San Francisco, California , Detroit , Chicago. I am born and raised in the DMV. The only place I have been robbed is in DC. Three times. Still unlimited opportunity in the DMV.
Also, if you need help looking for places to eat you need to go to Northern VA, Southern MD and specific parts of DC. There are so many hole in the walls that are better than any restaurant I have eaten in NYC or LA.
DC food, you’re half right. Those places you’ve been to absolutely sacrifice the taste for the appearance. To caveat, the GOOD food spots in DC sacrifice appearance for taste.
Very true. That ran down building with chipped paint will have the best food while the newly renovated building across the street needs every seasoning in your cabinet to make it edible.
I actually think the D.C food scene is growing. But the D.C food scene, if you're trying to spend lots of money in the center of the DMV then go ahead but in the surrounding area it's lacking in the food scene. (especially mexican from what i've seen)

I moved to DC 17 years ago from Brooklyn still here. I'm in the 14th and U area, This video is accurate, except for the food. There are thousands of restaurants, most of them pretty good,
Where are they at ? Please tell me cuz the food is overpriced and not that good and I come from a family of southern cuisine! Lol
Please suggest some restaurants...
@@shicolbert6182I guess it depends on the type of food you like and where you live
You are characteristic of the DC area. People here are so intelligent!
I came to your channel from your initial DMV review and I'm cryingggg at the retraction of the food lmao. when I watched the first one and you said good food I was like 🧐 (I'm spoiled when it comes to food since I'm from NYC)
but I've been considering moving to the DMV for some years now and appreciate your content and opinions. some ppl leave a lot to be desired on the topic. you touched base on everything from a real and tangible perspective rather than a bunch of stats that I could have read anywhere. thank you so much
also, the growth in your channel and content is so cool to see, even though I've only browsed through a few videos so far. the production and editing is *chef's kiss* and I love your energy!!

Suggest some good food in NY because every time I go I’m disappointed. I’m from Texas tho
From a born and raised native of DC, this list is very accurate.
I’ve been here almost 10yrs… I love it!!
It does grow on you...I think it makes you a more patient person because you deal with ALL sorts of people.
Please comment your list of recommended restaurants!
Instagram-able isn't always a bad thing because I find some nice places to go from it.
let me get that list I used to live in seattle too
Where is the list sis ?
I agree since I’ve reprogrammed my feed on IG I have seen a lot of places pop up in the dmv area and bmore that I need to try when it comes down to food
DC has great food and a huge variety. DC has some of the best Ethiopian food along with Caribbean, Indian and Mediterranean food. Crime has gone up but honestly crime has gotten out of hand everywhere. 🤷🏽♀️
Crime has always been out of hand here we just have more technology nowadays to expose it. But DC has always had high crime.
Exactly idk what he talking about
DC was just ranked #1 for most Michelin Star restaurants in a condensed area anywhere in the country. I agree with you on the food tho!
People in DC don’t know what good food is
Native here! I'll never understand bc food leaves much to be desired... Plus, you can pay like how you can pay Yelp for a "boost."
DC is great if you're a boring workaholic.

This video really helped me with my decision so Washington DC I will see you soon. Thank you sir for making this video

I'm from Detroit, I heard they got the prettiest Black Women in D C
Yes, we are 🤣😁🥰😝
They all come here from other places, not native born. 😢
Yup

@talk2flonow261 we do have a lot that are native to the city, don't get it twisted....
I have to admit, I’m a DC/DMV native, 4 generations deep. This list was pretty accurate.
Virginia drivers. Not so much Maryland drivers.
When it comes to the food… the city does need some more powerhouses BUT if you’re going to the big name new restaurants to find your best bite that’s where you made your first mistake.
Watching Virginia drivers attempt to parallel park is amusing. I frequently resist the urge to offer to do it my damn self😩
As a MD native, I've got to push back on the driving comment 😂. We all know VA tags are the real hazard.
Yes

SO why, tell me, that every time I get cut off or someone driving stupid af they're from MD?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

I was born and raised in DC. I moved to the south 24 years ago and I still visit because I have close friends there. The traffic is insane. It is a beautiful city. Great night life.
No lies detected. The greenery as your airplane’s descending - nothing compares.
He’s not wrong about Maryland drivers as a Maryland driver I agree 😂
😂😂 you might’ve been the one who almost hit me on my bike
They got the worse roads in MD too I swear. I live in northern VA but always dread having to drive into MD.
VA has the worst drivers. Proven everyday.
VA drivers are crazy and the highways make no sense, lol
MD drivers are aggressive but VA drivers drive worse. They must still think they’re in the shitty VA highways. Only highway system that makes less sense was Miami’s.
I’m enjoyed this video! 😂 I’m from Philly and been living in the DM(V) for the past 9 years! I live in Arlington, Virginia and work in DC and everything you’ve said is soooooo true. 😂

I'm in philly, my family been thinking about moving to the area.
Anything coming philly that was surprising living down there?

I love that he said it’s the most underrated place in America, this is 100%
Not sure about you. But I’ve lived in DC & loved it for 15. Despite traveling to many other cities both nationally & internationally, I still think DC is the best city.
Great job with this, coming from a Washintonian. Can’t mention DC without Gogo music.
Agreed - How can you Not mention DC Go-Go

Great video. Very accurate. Been on the MD side for over 40 years. Proximity is one of the best advantages. It can't be beat unless you want to travel to the West Coast all of the time.
I love the level of production on this video. Cheers!
Why thank you a lot!
@makenigmoves thanks for the review. I just moved here 3 days ago from San Diego CA and really needed the inside scoop. Thanks a bunch!
Moved here from North Park myself 4 months ago, good luck!
I’m an elder born in DC and thrilled that u relocated. All the best to you.
I’m glad you said something about the lackluster food scene in DC!
It’s smaller areas with better food and that’s strange to me
@@MakingBigMoves what are your top 3 spots? I can give you some good options
@@kevinbishop5722 i can’t even tell you honestly, people ask me this and i find everything so mid, that nothing rings when i think of a top spot. Give me some suggestions! If i haven’t been, I’ll go for sure
Do you go outside of DC for restaurants as well?
@MakingBigMoves Huncho House in Hyattsville is 🔥🔥🔥..
Philly transplant as well. Marylanders cannot drive and the food is lackluster but the diversity and career opportunities are unmatched
Stay out the way and you'll be OK
Making this video with a New York shirt on is wild 😅. Thanks for the helpful video. You’re entertaining and informative.
😂😂😂 I think everybody in DC has a New York shirt 😂😂

Great summary of DC! I lived in DC for 5 years over 15 years ago and I loved it! Even though the DC I lived in didn't have as much gentrification as it does now, it was indeed chocolate city then. But I love hearing about the new DC and I agree with a lot of what you said.
You remind me of my friend Robert in High School. Robert is a math wizard we studied AP Calculus through high school. God bless you Robert.
As a local, this video was on point (except it’s Virginia drivers not MD). If you’re moving here and looking to open a business, VA and DC are more oversaturated than MD. The food scene is good but I know what you mean, certain places are all pretty with no substance but the quiet ones are the real hard hitters
Come on, bruh, the winters aren't even bad in D.C.
🎯💯
He is just talking
I was visiting dc from atl. That wind chill hit me so bad during the winter that I thought my bubble coat was gonna defend it. I was wrong.
🤔 Last major SNOW ❄️ was 2011
DC hasnt a bad winter in almost 10 years cut the BS
Thos was a good review very truthful
I would move to Chicago if the opportunity presented itself!
I’m never leaving ❤❤❤
Born and raised just outside. I've moved away a lot, but I keep coming back. While I in general believe the DMV is an amazing place to visit, but a horrible place to live, you do a great job of being fair to the area. Good pros and reasonable cons. A good job on the video.
Just moved to DMV from Ga, live in Silver spring work in DC, and you tell no lies. Food scene mid, traffic insane, weather is 50/50, but through all of that DC and Silver Spring MD beautiful and phenomenal cities
Come to Charles County if you want the laid back suburb experience
PG here. Very accurate description of the city! I have a feeling more people in the DMV watched your video lol. Hopefully it finds its way outside of us.
Anywhere worth living is expensive.
Moving to D.C in two years with a role in development, you’re spot on and it’s one of the main reasons coming.
I been in the DMV four years now. The pros he explained are accurate and cons couldn’t been more spot on.
Considering moving to DC from Miami so this helped! Do a video of neighborhoods/areas to not move to (for safety purposes) lol

Remind me to pullover when you get near me 😂😂 The closer I’m getting to 40, I’ve become the slower driver in the left lane 😂😂😂
@maximusindicusoblivious180 A lot of people DID just get off the boat. Unfortunately, DC is a sanctuary city.

As a native Washingtonian, the saying goes VA drivers can’t drive and Maryland driver’s will drive you off the road (most aggressive drivers; they grow up driving on more highways). Us Washingtonians are city drivers, so we may break traffic laws often.

lol i just think the food average.
Enjoy!
Dc food is definitely lacking but the transplants swear the food is so good, they are usually referring to the ambience of the restaurant.
I agree. I was on the other end when i first moved here. Saying it was good. It’s okay. Definitely not bad, but to be the 6/7th biggest metro area, you expect a lot more.

These Cons are so on point. I moved here in 2019 and I couldn’t agree more. I go back home to the chi frequently Just to get better food and pig out.

I’m from Philly and I found this very helpful!!!

LoL. Your right. MD drivers have no chill. But you gotta have some confidence to drive in MD. No one's gonna let you in. You need to take that spot. Get your game up, sir.
DC food for a long time has been family household kitchen's. Authentic DC food is Southern Cuisine
DC is the Restaurant Capital & considered to be #1 in the US for best restaurants & food, look it up! Not sure where u was eating but very few ppl say the food aint all that. Prob just need to know where to go.
@makingbigmoves! As a DC native, you are 100% on point!
Great video bro you touched on many important points
I have been all over the world. I’ve been to the villas in Brazil. I have been Nairobi Kenya Bangkok, Thailand, Tokyo Japan, Montego Bay, Jamaica London, England, Paris, France New York, New York, San Francisco, California , Detroit , Chicago. I am born and raised in the DMV. The only place I have been robbed is in DC. Three times.
Still unlimited opportunity in the DMV.
😳
Also, if you need help looking for places to eat you need to go to Northern VA, Southern MD and specific parts of DC. There are so many hole in the walls that are better than any restaurant I have eaten in NYC or LA.
DC food, you’re half right. Those places you’ve been to absolutely sacrifice the taste for the appearance. To caveat, the GOOD food spots in DC sacrifice appearance for taste.
Everything else mentioned, no lies told. Appreciate the video
Very true. That ran down building with chipped paint will have the best food while the newly renovated building across the street needs every seasoning in your cabinet to make it edible.
Awesome. God bless you and your family!
I actually think the D.C food scene is growing. But the D.C food scene, if you're trying to spend lots of money in the center of the DMV then go ahead but in the surrounding area it's lacking in the food scene. (especially mexican from what i've seen)
