  • In this how to video we take you through the steps of removing your valve cover and replacing the gasket on a 2006 Silverado. The same steps apply to the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 LS motors, 99 to 06 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra and the 07 classic Silverado. Parts I used posted below. I mistakenly called it a 327 its actually a 323 sorry for the confusion.

    Wow I wasn’t gonna do mine cause I have no idea what to do/don’t have much experience working on vehicles and I can’t afford to fuck anything up, but it looks pretty easy now. Great video!

    Great video! Thank you! Ever thought of taking off oil extension fill tube and just using the oil cap? I know some have had issues with tube leaking

      @@joeysautodiy7740 I actually saw on another TH-cam video where someone said that cap fit perfectly in hole where extension tube goes but not sure but just thought might be an option if someone had problems with tube

      On my truck I did just that. The tube was leaking and didn't feel like spending 40 at the parts store for a new one. Cap screws right in

    Thanks for the great video. I thought my rear main seal was the culprit but it is the valve covers. Will do this weekend. Thanks

      @Luis Serrano I've had to do the valve covers, and the oil pan gasket to fix all the leaks. Oh and I replaced the drain plug as well, and the oil cooler line plate seal.

      I would look at an engine cleaner you can get it online or from a local auto parts store. Make sure you read the directions.

    Can a bad/leaking valve cover gasket cause a cylinder 5 misfire?

    • @joeysautodiy7740
      @joeysautodiy7740  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible the oil is leaking into the spark plug boot and could cause a misfire easy enough to check to.

      I would look to see if the channels in your valve covers are gunked up I had this issue and ended up replacing the valve covers for that very reason, I don't have a video on it but I have a write up ill post a link to.

    hmm, I always thought it was a 325, anyhow it's a 5.3 (5300). The coil packs/Bracket , he should have just taken that off first as a unit...as we see he removed it for reinstallation of cover! Also, you should have got the Felpro kit with the gaskets for the cover bolts and replaced them as well...as old as it is (and you did have oil leaks!) why would you reuse those old bolt gaskets?? Good vid gentlemen!

    • @joeysautodiy7740
      @joeysautodiy7740  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      325 is actually correct I misspoke in the video. I bought a kit and was under the impression that the cover bolt gaskets were included, they were not that's a mistake on my part.

    • @2Ramrod2
      @2Ramrod2 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joeysautodiy7740 Yeah I just did mine. That Gasket kit is Fel Pro 50504 R-1 (You got 50504 I believe) with all gaskets. I got a 99 Silverado Z71, and the reason I said that is because when I went to replace the rubber bolt grommets the old ones looked good but they were not...stuck a screw driver in there to work it off and one they all just broke into pieces. I also replaced both PVC and grommet (Yes I still use OE covers and unlike videos I've seen, the left on mine has 3 BIG drain holes in baffle underneath, and someone said these PVC's are not suppose to rattle, mine was OE and it sure did rattle so I don't know what in heck they were talking abou lol they said not to replace them with a parts store one because of that lol). I cleaned mine up real good and painted Caliper red...pretty !
